England have a tricky little period here.....well played Smith! Well played. I remember your tears at that press-conference. put it behind you lad. Well played.

Pretty disgusting from the British crowd to boo Smith. It's amazing how when the poms receive the same treatment from other crowds, they condemn such behaviour!!

Love the fact that he just runs off the pitch as quickly as possible to get England out there as quickly as possible. What a pro!

I dont agree with it at all but the Aussie crowds are a lot worse than that believe me.

The Brits have in general been very well mannered and cultured people. I actually was telling someone that their World Cup squad comprised of people of such diverse cultures and backgrounds but the way the poms embrace people from all ethnicity and race should be applauded. Shame to see them behave like hooligans. And this booing crap has been happening at all venues. Aussies are not the right lot to boo if this is some sort of tactical decision because the Aussie lot get motivated further..

Steve Smith never showed any respect to the game of cricket by cheating so why should we give him any? He’s a great great player but will forever be a cheat.

He has not killed someone. Everyone deserves a second chance. Don't be so harsh and hateful. It's not like you or me haven't done things we regret in life. Booing is a very very weak and cheap representation of a group of people, least of all the brits who have always been gentlemen and knowledgable not just about cricket but sport and life in general.

Maybe he made a mistake, but can you truthfully say that you haven’t ever made one. If he does what he did again then he deserves a strong punishment, however this event was over a year ago now. Sorry to relate it to football, but the nation hated David Beckham after getting sent off in a World Cup QF, but he was given a second chance and became a national icon. Give Smith a chance (although I personally hope he doesn’t do too well over the next two months!)

He fecked up. We all do. We all hope people will allow us to move on from that. Smith was magnificent today. I dont particurlarly like the guy although I dont know him. He is arrogant and self obsessed but feck can he play cricket!

Wow what a knock by Smith. That is amazing to see him soldier on despite all the flak that he's been getting from the crowd. Shows what a tough character he is, and now he's put Australia in a decent position now as well. It really isn't easy scoring big when you've got a whole crowd that's booing your name which can hurt one.

Think we should move past the whole sandpaper thing. Smith did cheat, he made a mistake and we really shouldn't be so unforgiving either. Humans make mistakes and we do things without thinking that have dire consequences. It's important now to move on from that incident now. As kushal said, Smith hasn't killed anyone or anything ruthless and unforgiving and rather we should recognize him as a cricketer and his efforts for pulling Australia from out of a pit.

The real story is why England let this slip away and why root was setting the fields he did: looked like utter capitulation!!

How to grab defeat from the jaws of victory!

I think Bancroft deserves some credit for returning to test cricket after the peer pressure he was victim of, he is still just a young lad and he has taken more than his fair share of abuse

What happened to the umpires?

As a neutral, thoroughly enjoyed the fightback by the tail. To get to 280 from 122-8 is brilliant. Might very well be the game changer.

Don't know what is with Broad but every time I feel he is past his sell-by date, he comes and puts in a performance like that.

The Test is nicely poised and it would be interesting to see how England's 1st innings pans out.[DOUBLEPOST=1564722237][/DOUBLEPOST]

Pure guess, but I feel Bancroft had no say in the matter. He was instructed to do something by his seniors and he carried it out knowing fully well that he wouldn't have done it if he had the freedom of choice.
