170 is still a testing total, the pitch is wearing but Australia need a good start and Warner needs to provide that foundation. I feel Australia gave about 20 extra runs when you see how they were bowling, but not a bad total to be facing considering Bairstow and Ali looked quite comfortable.

Broads dismissal was hilarious to see. I was extremely surprised that even though there was an dot/speck on hot-spot, it was given out. That was unbelievable to see. It looks like there is a flaw of some sort in the technology, it showed a big spike on ultra edge when there was merely a speck.

We miss Stokes not for his skills although obviously them as well but for his in your face agression; I am all for calm and focused but sometimes you need some who is quite prepared to bottle you. England are too nice.

I like nice guys as neighbours not as sportsmen: you have to be ruthless and England have been very defensive especially batting wise.....anyway off to get a drink and a breather away from the feckwits screaming aussie aussie aussie in my ear

Said this before but it is great to see a testing pitch in an era where there are flat pitches aplenty to make even the most average players look like world beaters. Requires real character to go with skill to perform on this pitch.

Good start by Australia given the conditions but don't think it'll be an easy chase. Can see a lot of twists coming up.

Lets be really honest here; England have real problems: a top order not doing its job and a bowling attack that isnt penetrating enough and a spinner not able to spin the ball......

How many England batters got in and gave it away? I will repeatedly say it- You need to get Johnny in at 4 and give the gloves to someone else. Put Joe at 3.

Bairstow is a very good WK but the team requires his uninhibited role as a batsman and he has immense capabilities as well. He's wasted at 7 and England can do with some gun batters.

Cook
Stoneman
Vince
Root (c)
Bairstow
Ali
Foakes (wk)
Woakes
Broad
Anderson or C Overton (if Anderson is injured).
Crane

i would like to see Bairstow play as a batsmen only in the next game, and give Foakes the gloves.

Cook aside, everyone in our top 7 got a score in the game, nobody went past Vince's 83.

they've been given a lesson by Smith. Going to be a long winter unless they heed it.

Jonny Bairstow being investigated by the ECB for headbutting Cameron Bancroft in a nightclub 3 weeks ago.

Wheels arent quite off yet but its wobbling: not even going in to day, too much hassle for an hour or so play; one thing that surprised me is sitting right on the Boundary how small the pitch actually looked: you get a different perspective than on the tv. Was a lot of good humour but also just a lot of lager lout behaviour which gets tedious after a while.

Perfectionist Australia; openers time out in the middle not whacking it about using the opportunity well. Theres a long way to go in this series and it is only 1 - 0 but it is a very big 1 and a very big 0

A guy called Adam Collins tweeted it by saying "Absolutely outstanding response from Cameron Bancroft. Very funny bloke. Reckon we're going to enjoy his career"

This should clear few things out.
