Steady Start​

After the end of fifteen overs India have reached 85 runs with loss of top three batsmen. India opened witht Robin Uthappa and Sourav Ganguly on a very flat deck offering no swing and seam during the inital overs. Indian batting which was looking rusty in the lead up game now seemed a bit more at place with a few good shots copuled with quick singles and good running. India started off smoothly , getting a odd boundary and at the end of ten overs reached 56\0. with both the batsmen on 23 runs each.

Uthappa Out..No.3 Yuvraj​

A good firm base was now bulit up by the two openers so that India could take advantage off the rest overs of fielding restrictions. Vaas then finally broke opening half century partnership dismissing uthappa who drew a ball in the air to cover and got himself out for 23 runs made from 34 balls. Yuvraj Singh was the surprise at number three , was sent maybe because he had scorerd a brillant 95 notout agaist them in India recently. He started off in fashion driving Vass of his first delivery for a bouindary. India how hoped that the two left handers might just get them that boost in the next few overs to set up a base for 300 plus score.

Next overs World cup Debutant ganegama struck this time claming India's in form Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly hit a ball straight back at the bowler who took a brilliant reflex catch to dismiss the former captain caught and bowled for 23 off 34 balls which included 3 boundaries. India now were looking cheeky at 65/2, Tendulkar the new batsmen in. Next over yuvraj was dismissed while attempting a late cut off vass caught at point to reduce India to 67/3. Vaas has now picked up two wickets. Master Blaster Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are at the crease at the moment. India certainly need some resurgence in their failing batting order if they have to post a biggie here.

Strong Position​

India have managed to reached a impressive score of 241/3 at the end of 40 overs. Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar have struck form at one of the most important time when India needed them mostly. Both the Veterans stood up and have so far put India in a very strong postion to dominate and dictate terms from here. With Virender Sehwag and Mahendra Dhoni next to come in it's going to be tough for Sri Lankan's ,thier only hope could be Murali who have quite a few overs left.

India Rebuild​

Initially after 15 overs with some overs of fileding restrictions left both the batsmen looked relaxed and pounched upon any oppourtinity they got to get a boundary. They picked up runs in singles mostly and ran very hard to convert one's to two's and two's to three's. They defended the good deliveries and with sheer experience were clocking a good run rate as well, they never let the run rate slip below 5 runs per over. While Dravid was playing slowly Tendulkar was playing more freely by virtue of which he had a amazing strike rate of around 100 all through his innings so far.

Strong Substantial Partnership​

As Rahul and Sachin both got used to the conditions they started getting more boundaries especially agaist Maharoof. It was surprising that Murali who had completed very few overs did not come during this phase , giving India just the chance they required. At around 30 over stage India were comfortably place at 174/3. Rahul dravid then got to his fifty which came off 65 balls and tendulkar also followed it up with his fifty coming off 52 balls, uptil now it was a century stand perhaps a warning for Srilanka.

Tendulkar and Dravid set India up​

Srilanka still did not bother much about really trying hard to get these two people out and hence after around 35th over Tendulkar picked up pace and now India's scoring rate increased , Dravid got the occasional boundary and got singles while Tendulkar was attacking from one end , a six and a next ball bounday off Maharoof was clearly a indication of things to come.With an attacking Tendulkar and a clever dravid at the crease and some big hitters to come India's chance's of crossing 300 look fair but can India get it with Murali coming into the picture?

Update: India 1st innings 332/7​

India have placed themselves into a relatively good position by reaching a total of 332 runs courtesy some great batting in the last ten overs where they picked up 91 runs. Sachin Tendulkar has notched up his 42nd one day hundred and remained unbeaten on 142 runs off 107 balls.Qiute a few recordes were borken in this process with the partnership between Dravid and Tendulkar of 206 runs being the highest 4th wicket partnership in the world cup beating the previous record of Lk Germon and Cz Harris of New Zealand agaist Australia in Chennai during the '96 world cup. Sachin scored 7 sixes during his innings which is next best to pointing's effort of 8 sixes during the final of world cup 2003.

India during the last ten overs blazed off with fashion. Rahul and Sachin both made use of thier time in the middle and started attcking the bowling even when Murali was introduced. Dravid fell for a delivery off Murali when he tried to hoick one over long on but could not clear the distance. Sehwag then joined Sachin only to be a spectator of some huge sixes by Sachin agaist Murali. Sachin scored a total of five sixes agaist murali and two of them out of the ground , he was in devastating form . He managed to get his hundred off just 86 deliversies and the next 15 deliveries would fetch him 42 runs as he reamined unbeaten. Sehwag, Dhoni and pathan fell at the other end trying desperately to hit some huge ones but to no effect. India magaed to finsh on 332/7 and hence Srilanka now need 333 runs to win from 50 overs with a required run rate of 6.67 runs per over.
