The FA Cup Thread

Well that's a crap draw as far as I'm concerned. At least it's an Anfield seeing as we can't win at home this season.

I dunno, I thought it was a good draw. Listened to game 1 then didnt care about the rest. The only bummer was as a derby there's no chance of getting tickets and haven't been to Anfield in a while, a cup game would have been nice.

Spurs at Old Trafford then. I was hoping for a non/lower league side, so our strikers could get their eye in...

West Ham fans to get up to the North East by 12:40. TV and the FA are always thinking of the fans, eh?

Suprised ITV didn't pick up the dippers derby, they had first choice after all.

I wish Fox Sports would show the FA Cup. I really wanna watch our game.
I think if it was on Sky Sports here, it would be on Fox Sports there since they are the same company. However, it is on an Irish channel here so they refuse to give it to Sky.

It is believed that the police wouldn't let it be at 17:30, so it would have had to be lunchtime, but if ITV had chosen to screen it, then:

  • Not as many people would have watched as would have Manchester Utd/Spurs on in primetime (which Setanta would have then picked)
  • Setanta have choice of the next two games and slots, and would therefore have picked Sat 17:30 and Sun 16:00, therefore leaving ITV with no primetime football

If the BBC still had the FA Cup, then they would have probably gone with the derby, because they are more interested in the quality of game, but ITV are a commercial company and want to make money out of the FA Cup, and the best way to do that was to go with Manchester Utd vs Spurs for their first pick.

Ah, you raise a good point there!

Exciting 4th round action so far. Some cupsets on the cards, particularly Swansea beating the holders Pompey at Fratton Park 2-0 at half time.
