Wonderful! As Bilal said, I'm just waiting for the action to begin. IMO, this story has been carried out almost perfectly so far. I mean there was a build to the tournament and the previews and almost everything. That is what has got the excitement going on in here. Well done man! :clap

Both teams have solid line up. Waiting for the match to start, expecting some runs from Jesse. :D

From your first story to this story your presentation has been always great, keep it up mate. :)

awesome!! this is why you won previously a SOTM and with new changes to SOTM with SOT"Q" we have found a great contender!!

Excellent Presentation!!

Wellington might want to look out with Shah in the line-up, there is a good chance that he might run at least 3 of them out :laugh

Lovely presentation pal, you really do put a sublime amount of effort into your stories and it really shows. KIU :thumbs

Terrific presentation & outstanding efforts. Really, patience is very much rewarded here & is well reflected in readers' feedback. Keep it up! :hpraise

: Welcome back to the Basin Reserve, where the first game of the HRV Cup is just about to commence, with Brent Arnel to bowl to Neal Parlane...

5 Over Update

Over 1:
Arnel began nervously, with a long hop which was luckily hit to point. He then followed up with a no ball, a wide, and then luckily again the free hit was a full toss but Parlane could only find mid wicket. A couple of dot balls followed, and then Parlane finally got his innings underway with a nice off drive, followed by a hook to deep square to bring the score at the end of the over to 7/0.

Over 2:
Graeme Aldridge took the ball for the second over, to bowl to Parlane. Parlane had the first word, hooking him delightfully in front of square for another boundary, but Aldridge followed up with a toe-crushing yorker and then deceived Parlane with a slower ball. Parlane went to cover drive it but was much too early on ths shot and skied it to Bradley Scott at cover who took a simple catch.

Neal Parlane may have hit the first boundary of the HRV Cup, but he was also the first victim, caught at cover

Cameron Merchant was the new man, and after being beaten just outside off stump by a beautiful ball from Aldrdidge which swung late away from the left hander, he hooked the next ball he received for six into the crowd, where a spectator took a sharp catch! 19/1

HRV Maximum? The HRV Cup might not be as accessorised as the IPL, but this was still a very big hit!

Over 3:
Brent Arnel took the ball again but was immediately set back by a huge hit from Jesse Ryder, who hit the first ball he received in the tournament for 6! It was a full ball and Ryder got under it nicely and managed to hit it way over cow corner. However Arnel managed to tighten up for the rest of the over, with a couple of good yorkers and full deliveries and Ryder could only find fielders, meaning the rest of the over yielded just one run. 26/1

Ryder set the crowd alight with a huge six from his first ball!

Over 4:
Graeme Aldridge's second over didn't begin any better than his first, with a no ball first up, and was then hit for four by Cameron Merchant off the free hit that followed. He continued to leak runs - Merchant proceeding to cover drive, and then cut, two fours in a row. In the end was an expensive over that cost 13 runs, the only redeeming feature being beating Merchant's outside edge on two occassions. 39/1

Cameron Merchant put Aldridge away to the boundary on three occassions - this cover drive being the easiest on the eye

Over 5:
Arnel gained his first success after taking the ball for his third over. He kept it tight early on, starting off with three dot balls to Merchant who couldn't put his tight bowling away. He managed to clip the fourth ball down to long leg for a single, but Arnel then struck by removing Ryder. It was a slower ball that ended up as a full toss, Ryder stepped across and tried to follow his batting partner in flicking it down to fine leg, but missed. The ball just clipped the leg stump, halfway up on the full! Some really good luck for Arnel but he had bowled well all the way through. He was quickly brought back down to earth by the new batsman Owais Shah, who clubbed him through the leg side for four first ball. 44/2

Ryder paid the price for trying to get too cute, and was bowled around his legs by an Arnel full toss - a Ford moment of success?

After 5 Overs
Wellington Firebirds 44/2
Cameron Merchant 20*
Owais Shah 4*
Brent Arnel 3-0-19-1

Nice catch by that spectator, especially sitting down, very cool :p

Did like this :laugh

HRV Maximum? The HRV Cup might not be as accessorised as the IPL, but this was still a very big hit!

Pfft, I'd say it's bigger then the IPL ;)

Ryder was the big wicket there, though Merchant is going along decently enough and Shah can hit a big ball, just Wellington need to avoid losing anymore wickets.

Lovely pres pal, nice and simple, is always the best :)

good update mate :) im a nuetral fan in this match i'll root for who ever's winning, seems to be even now. Ryder hitting that six looks pretty realistic in his stance and his figure :p.
Did you make him look fat? :laugh

^ Yep! And I've edited the batsmen's gloves and pads too. I have also added sweatbands or skins to the player's arms, depending on what they wear in real life
Thanks for the outstanding reaction to this guys, 2 posts within 10 mins of a new update!

Ryder actually looks pretty realistic in the last image. Well done!

It is a good start for both the sides as batting team has got 44 in 5 while fielding team has managed to take two wickets. Ryder was a big wicket though.

Brilliant presentation mate! You have completely transformed Cricket 2004!
