First ODI: India vs Sri Lanka, Rajkot

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. The pitch report by Shastri suggested that its going to be very difficult for the team batting first, especially, the first half an hour or so. It might just prove to be wrong if the Indian openers Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag get going.

A good start for the Sri Lankans here. A slow start was expected on this wicket. But, along with the slow start, India lost their opener Virender Sehwag (2) on just 6. The Sri Lankans are happy as expected. All seems to be going well for. Keeping the runs down, taking wickets along with Lasith Malinga being able to make in the first ODI.

Another wicket for Kulasekara. He is just rocking. Kulasekara has sent back the Delhi dashers back to the pavilion. Sangakkara seems to be leading from the front and in a wise manner. He knew that Malinga isn't 100% fit, so he got rid of him and bought in Mathews. Everyone knows how dangerous Mathews can be with the new ball. And with Kulasekara bowling in such fashion, it doesn't look good for the Indian team.

However, the Murali - Sachin battle was something all were looking forward to see and eventually, it was Muttiah who succeed. He dismissed his counterpart, Sachin Tendulkar on 48. The crowd was stunned as Sachin couldn't covert a good start into a huge score.

It is often said that batsmen should follow Sachin Tendulkar! But does that mean towards the pavilion too. As soon as Sachin got dismissed, the entire Indian batting line up looked an inter - school team. No sensible shots, no perfect time, no mature play, etc. On the other hand, Kulasekara continued his good bowling in the game along with Muralitharan chipping in with some wickets.
The Indian team looks in deep trouble now. Just 20 overs are bowled and 7 batsmen are back to the pavilion!

That's the end of the Indian innings. The batted terribly. Wrong shot selections has caused India to be the price for it. The entire team is dismissed for just 118 after 25 odd overs. All knew that batting on this pitch wouldn't be easy, but nobody expected such a dramatic first inning out of it.
For the Sri Lankans, Muttiah Muralitharan and Nuwan Kulasekara looked amazing. Murali picked up 4 vital wickets, including the one of Sachin, who was batting pretty well today, when compared to the other batsmen in the team. On the other hand, Kulasekara has to be given equal credit. He dismissed Sehwag and Gambhir early and gave Sri Lanka a perfect stage to dominate this match.

The Sri Lankan bowlers have done their job pretty well. Now its up to the batsmen. It won't really be a hard job for the Lankans to chase 119 in 50 overs, but who knows, we might be in for a surprise here.

Lame! Write up something, rather than adding commentary for giving update a good length:yes.

It isn't an answer sheet so that everything should be long for some stupid professors.
Its just an update, a short and a sweet one, lad.

Contains the commentary and some small descriptions.

However, I'll try to add some more stuff up as you said. :)

First Inning ; India Batting
First ODI: India vs Sri Lanka, Rajkot

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. The pitch report by Shastri suggested that its going to be very difficult for the team batting first, especially, the first half an hour or so. It might just prove to be wrong if the Indian openers Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag get going.

(Commentary stuff)

A good start for the Sri Lankans here. A slow start was expected on this wicket. But, along with the slow start, India lost their opener Virender Sehwag (2) on just 6. The Sri Lankans are happy as expected. All seems to be going well for. Keeping the runs down, taking wickets along with Lasith Malinga being able to make in the first ODI.

(Commentary stuff)

Another wicket for Kulasekara. He is just rocking. Kulasekara has sent back the Delhi dashers back to the pavilion. Sangakkara seems to be leading from the front and in a wise manner. He knew that Malinga isn't 100% fit, so he got rid of him and bought in Mathews. Everyone knows how dangerous Mathews can be with the new ball. And with Kulasekara bowling in such fashion, it doesn't look good for the Indian team.

Gautam Gambhir walks back after getting dismissed by Kulasekara

(Commentary stuff)

The Indian innings had begun to settle with Tendulkar reaching the 40s with a strike rate of more than 100 and Yuvraj supporting him well. However, the Murali - Sachin battle was something all were looking forward to see and eventually, it was Muttiah who succeed. He dismissed his counterpart, Sachin Tendulkar on 48. The crowd was stunned as Sachin couldn't covert a good start into a huge score.

What a great length update without commentary:sarcasm.
If you'd have wanted small one, you'd have chosen something like this:yes, which is more effective than simply posting commentary.

Even my post in Cricket Discussion (while in a fight) goes bigger than this;):D:laugh..

Do you mean I should do all the writings together and put the cricsim commentary at the end. If that is it, then no problems.

But, to be honest, I didn't like the presentation of the link you gave. The font sucks and the idea of increasing the text size to 3 seems idiotic.
Short and simple fonts look good. You can have a look at the first post of the thread for a simple example.

Cheers

I said not to use any cricsim stuffs (like commentary), excepting the scorecard:yes.

And I dunno why you don't like that presentation. Its the most famous presentation among PC. Leaving it, as its your personal interest, even the same write up with the presentation of you is better, when compared with "Copy Pasting" the commentary:yes.

Second Inning ; Sri Lanka Batting
First ODI: India vs Sri Lanka, Rajkot

Sri Lanka had to chase a small target of 119 runs and that would never have been hard for the star - studded team. Dilshan and Tharanga came out for the Lankans to face the new ball. Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra couldn't do any damage as the Sri Lankans got to a good start. The opening partership between Tharanga and Dilshan was of 50 odd runs, which almost decided the fate of the match. Dilshan looked good in the partnership whereas Tharanga was a bit slow with his start and continued with it. A small ray of hope was visible to the Indians when the turbanator Harbhajan Singh rattled the stumps and Tharanga got dismissed. The partnership was finally broken.

Then came in the Sri Lankan skipper, Kumar Sangakkara. A target of 119 was never too big, but whatever it is, the batsmen had to be cautious on such a wicket. Sangakkara did the same thing. He started of his inning quite slow. On the other hand, Dilshan continued his good form which he carried from the Asia Cup. But just as Sachin in the previous inning, he couldn't squeeze out a big score from the start he got. He got dismissed by Praveen Kumar, giving an easy catch to Sachin Tendulkar. The Sri Lankans now were 78 for 2 in 20 odd overs.

The wicket of Dilshan meant it was the entry of the "ever so dependable", Mahela Jayawardene. Jayawardene was looking confident after his amazing performance in the T20 WC. However, he couldn't do much in the first ODI of the bi - lateral series. He got out for just 1 run to his name, giving a catch to the Indian skipper standing behind the wickets, MS Dhoni. It was a happy moment for the young lad, Pragyan Ojha.

Suddenly, the match seemed to be turning around. From 68/0, Sri Lankan top order suddenly collapsed for 79/3. The next to come in was Thilan Samarweera. He isn't much experienced in ODIs, but all know that is quite capable of playing well under pressure and finding the odd boundary at regular intervals. He along with his skipper Sangakkara tried to get the momentum back for their team. 79 for 3 chasing a target of 119 was never a bad situation, but the Lankans had decided not to give away any more wickets. The captain looked rock solid on one end from the time the first wicket fell, but nobody could actually support him well. The same happened in this partnership too. The second best partership of the Lankan innings of just 17 was broken up by Zaheer Khan when he dismissed Samarweera in a controversial LBW decision. The lankans now were 96 for 4 and the required run rate was not a problem. It was just that they were unable to just stay out at the middle.

Samarweera got out and in came the all - rounder, Angelo Mathews. He is well known as a perfect finisher for Sri Lanka. The team expected the duo of Sangakkara and Mathews to finish the things of. But, it was never going to be so easy for the Lankans. At one stage when all the batsmen were getting out leaving Sangakkara at one end, this time it was the skipper himself who got by a beauty from Harbhajan Singh. A well foughten innings came to an end as Sangakkara departed on 13 from 38 deliveries. Sri Lanka were looking in some trouble as they lost 5 wickets for around 30 runs.

In came Kapugedara. How could the Indians forget the six he struck on the last ball of T20 WC match between them which resulted in a loss of the Indian team. The Indians knew that this was the last recognised pair and getting one more wicket would mean that they surely stand a match. However, a 12 run partnership between them surely did worry the Indian team. But, it was the Harbhajan Singh rattling the timber yet again to dismiss Angelo Mathews. Bhajji looked fired up. He has picked up 3 wickets, all being "clean bowled". The score now is 110 for 6. Are we in for a surprise?

Then came in Nuwan Kulasekara. He managed to score only three runs. Soon he got off the mark, he was trapped by Zaheer Khan for a leg before wicket. Indian team seriously looks to be doing some magic here. From 68 for 0 at one stage, Lankans are now at 113 for 7. The next 3 batsmen are Malinga, Muralitharan and Mendis. Nobody out of the three has reasonably well batting statistics. Lets see what happen. 6 runs required, 3 wickets in hand.

It was Lasith Malinga who was sent out to join Chamara Kapugedara. He came in and the ball was in the hands of Zaheer Khan. Zaheer tried his best to get Malinga out. Pushing himself to the extent, the ball simply slipped out of his hands, giving a wide, which was a bonus to the Lankan team. On the last ball, Malinga surprisingly took a single a retained the strike. Pragyan Ojha came to bowl to Malinga. He conceeded a wide as well and the score now was 116 for 7. 3 runs required and Malinga slashes the ball to third man. Zaheer at the third man position is inside the circle and has to do some work to stop the bowl. However, after running 2 runs, Kapugedara forces Malinga to run for the third and finish the things off. Zaheer managed to stop the boundary, but the effort went waste and the batsmen ran 3 quick runs between the wickets. Kapugedara runs with joy towards the team mates after completing the third run.

The low scoring match turned out to be a nail - bitter, giving the Rajkot crowd something to smile for. Not much boundaries were struck in the Lankan innings. Infact, it was only Dilshan who managed two 4s and a 6. Rest of the team couldn't even score a single boundary. But, does it really matters! The thing which matters is the final result which went in favour of the Lankan Lions.

So, it is Sri Lanka who has won the first match at Rajkot. The post - match presentation will be coming up shortly.

Nice writing, no noticeable grammar mistakes, good update
India never really had a chance, 119 was never enough
Nice clean presentation, no complaints but if you wanna make it better, i suggest you add a few pics now and then, KIU

MaD added 1 Minutes and 2 Seconds later...

You could remove the commentary and use one of the scorecard templates to make a more attractive scorecard too

Perfect, but when you're explaining the match, I don't think commentary is needed:yes.

Yeah but that is just for reference. I feel the cricsim commentary can improvise the match quite good.
And thanks for your suggestions. Even I feel that this presentation looks better than the previous one. :D

Exactly what I was thinking just before pressing the submit button for the update.

I tried a few pictures, one of them was THIS but then I realized that a single random picture was disturbing the entire presentation.

And for the scorecard, I feel preparing it might take away a lot of time. Even if I use a ready - made template, I guess feeding all the details would be very time consuming.
I would rather like to add some more writings than preparing a scorecard.
The guy Sydur Rahman has programmed the scorecard reasonably well to simply paste it. :)

Bounce added 2 Minutes and 3 Seconds later...

Guys one suggestion needed.
Should I edit the index and add up all the links each time I post an update or should I simply post the updates and keep the index as it is (the first update it was)?

Trust me, using photoshop, it doesn't take that long and it'll add to make a better presentation.
You should try to make it seem like you aren't using a sim and this is really goin on, that's what stories are about. Although it looks fine if you like

Hmmm....
Do you know any scorecard template I could use for Indian Cricket (matches taking place in India)?

Or else, I will keep ESPN as a general broadcaster.
Is an ESPN overlay available?

Post Match Presentation Ceremony
First ODI: India vs Sri Lanka, Rajkot

Ravi Shastri: Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the post - match ceremony of the First ODI held between India and Sri Lanka. It was a low scoring match, no batsmen could even reach 50, but at the end, it was a pretty close match and was quite entertaining.
Firstly, I would like to call the losing captain, MS Dhoni to come and have a few words with me...

MS, what went wrong for the side today?

MS Dhoni: Well, I have to admit that we didn't play good at all today. The batting was below par, there were some misfields too and......and...

Ravi Shastri: And what about the bowling?

MS Dhoni: The bowling was too good today. Bhajji bowled really well along with Zak. Defending a target of 120 odd was never going to be easy for the bowlers. But, its good to see the bowlers coming back in the rhythm.

Ravi Shastri: And how is the team morale now? The WC loss, then a loss in triangular series and now the match?

MS Dhoni: The morale is fine. We are professionals and need to adapt to any situation. We have to forget about the past on concentrate on the on going series. Taking one match at a time is what we think.

Ravi Shastri: Well MS, nice talking to you. Tough luck today and all the best for the second match at Kolkata.

MS Dhoni: Thanks a lot.

Ravi Shastri: I would now like to call upon the winning captain, Kumar Sangakkara.

A great win there Kumar, the team looks good.

Kumar Sangakkara: Yeah its good to win a match against India at their home turf. It was really difficult for us. The pitch didn't have much bounce and some of them even bounced un-evenly. Overall, the batting was fine. Dilshan has always been the man for us in tough situations for us and this time too, it was good to see him playing that sort of an innings.

Ravi Shastri: And any words on your bowling?

Kumar Sangakkara: Our bowling department really looks good. Murali, Mendis, Malinga and Nuwan are doing a great job. Currently I feel that we have the best bowling attack and has the ability to dominate any side. And, seeing Murali bowling in such fashion at this age is amazing.

Ravi Shastri: And any plans for the next match?

Kumar Sangakkara: No plans as such. We'll just concentrate on the practice sessions between the two matches and will try to give our best shot.

Ravi Shastri: Well played today, Kumar.

Kumar Sangakkara: Thanks.

Ravi Shastri: Now its the time for the man of the match. We saw some thrilling bowling performances from Harbhajan, Kulasekara and Muralitharn, but it was Murali who dominated the show. Muttiah Muralitharan is the man of the match. I would like to call Muttiah to come and have a small chat with me.

So Murali, how does it feel to keep taking the wickets even now?

Muttiah Muralitharan: Feels great. Actually it feels nice to take wickets at any age, but after crossing 33 - 34, its really special. (laughs)

Ravi Shastri: You and Bhajji, both bowled pretty well today. Did the pitch had something to offer for the off spinners.

Muttiah Muralitharan: Yes of course. The ball had begun to spin quite early and that helped us.

Ravi Shastri: Any retirement plans Murali?

Muttiah Muralitharan: I have not thought anything about it as of now. As long as my hunger for wickets doesn't end, I will continue to play.

Ravi Shastri: Well played Murali. Go and have the fun with the boys.

Muttiah Muralitharan: Thanks a lot Ravi.

Ravi Shastri: So that's it from the presentation ceremony.

It really feels great to win a match against India in India. However, we must not forget that a target of 119 was chased by us losing 7 wickets. So, the batting really needs to be as it used to be.
On the other hand, the bowlers bowled pretty well. As I said before, its an absolute delight to watch Murali bowling. Now that we have won the first match, we will be going all guns blazing in the second match and try to win it, so that we can test our bench strength in the final ODI.

Malinga was already suffering from some minor cramps and in the first match, the cramp has turned into an ankle injury. He won't be a part of the rest of the two matches and has therefore gone back to Sri Lanka for a quick treatment.
No replacement would be sent as we already have Dilhara Fernando and Ferveez Maharoof. We could just hope that Malinga joins the team in the tournament after the bi - lateral series against India.

I know it will be tough for the selectors to think over Malinga as the squad for the upcoming Australian tour will be announced after the second ODI against India. Even an injured Malinga can do a work of gold for the team, but the management certainly would not wan to risk his health and fitness, especially when the WC is just around 6 months away.
