Story The PlanetCricket Ashes [ICC 2008]

2ND TEST, DAY 3

89.4:
Full ball from Burnsy1 and OffCutters can only hit it straight back to him. A good, early, solid wicket for England.

OffCutters c&b. Burnsy1 19 (46) 3 fours, 0 sixes

IloveGilly took six wickets in the first innings but he needs to make a few with the bat now to make it worthwile.

94.5: Quite short from treva, straightened up and IloveGilly played all around it. England are close to getting through the Australians now.

IloveGilly b. treva 4 (26)

Covvy is in now, Australia in trouble.

95.1: Another! Played down the wrong line, biggy09, to that ball ball from Pakistani Army. It didn't spin all that much but it has caught the edge and the captain evertonfan took a smart catch.

biggy09 c. evertonfan b. Pakistani Army 28 (71) 3 fours, 0 sixes

Octavius joins Covvy in the middle, the last pair are at the crease for Australia and the tourists are still 72 behind England.

98.2: All done. That ball didn't do a lot at all from Burnsy1, but it takes the edge off a horrible shot from Octavius and the Aussies are bowled out.

Octavius c. evertonfan b. Burnsy1 8 (8) 1 four, 0 sixes

End Of Innings
Australia 1st innings: 315 all out (98.2 overs) (Feelin Blue? 71, Mad Snake 70, Gilly Fan 57)

England lead by 57, effectively 57 for no wicket as the openers come to the crease.

2.6: Giggity Giggity made a half century in the first innings but he's not lasted long here.

Giggity Giggity c. Feelin Blue? b. IloveGilly 2 (5)

Will NA, pull your finger out and do something, son!

4.4: No! No! No!

Will NA c. Mad Snake b. IloveGilly 4 (7) 1 four, 0 sixes

Holdenator, we could do with another hundred.

Lunch, Day 3
England 2nd innings: 35-2

11.6: Not good.

Holdenator b. biggy09 14 (30) 0 fours, 1 six

Mercules, come on son.

26.3: adyhorn, you hero! His half century comes up and England need more from him.

adyhorn 50 not out (76 balls) 5 fours, 0 sixes

36.6: Mercules is trapped leg before. Didn't need that before tea.

Mercules lbw b. IloveGilly 23 (67) 1 four, 0 sixes

Burnsy1 is needed.

Tea, Day 3
England 2nd innings: 138-4
England lead by 195 runs

53.4: This has been a brilliant partnership. Just what is required in the situation. Burnsy1 brings up his fifty in quick time.

Burnsy1 50 not out (57 balls) 7 fours, 0 sixes

54.4: That's it! The crowd roar! adyhorn has his arms aloft! That's his first Test century and he is loving it!

adyhorn 100 not out (166 balls) 10 fours, 0 sixes

70.6: What is it about Burnsy1 that means he is always out just before the end!?

Burnsy1 b. IloveGilly 78 (108) 10 fours, 0 sixes

evertonfan is in.

72.6: And that's the end of the day. England need as much as they can get tomorrow and make Australia work in the chase.

Stumps, Day 3
England 2nd innings: 272-5 (73 overs)
England lead by 329 runs

The Poms are in a very good position here, we need to bowl them out quick and then we have to do alot with the bat during our 2nd innings.

Arggh :( I think we have too much to do on our hands here. England have played us well, and we'll have to fight hard to save this match. I think a draw is on the cards, but a win is out of reach

DAY 4

urn.jpg

England's adyhorn and evertonfan had a cracking morning at Lord's on day four - taking their partnership past a hundred with the captain completing a half century consisting of 4 fours. We join the action just before the lunch break with the home side 363-5, a lead of 420. Already the Australians would need to break a world record to win the match.

103.6: At last, Australia take a wicket. A nipping delivery from IloveGilly beats evertonfan and hits the middle stump. Another five-for for IloveGilly.

evertonfan b. IloveGilly 57 (97) 4 fours, 0 sixes

He's not taking adyhorn off with him for a declaration, so with the lead at 427 PaulNixon1 picks up his bat and makes his way to the middle.

104.6: An extremely good session comes to a close for England. They've piled on the runs and lost just the one wicket. Five sessions left in the match - when will evertonfan decide to get the last innings underway?

Lunch, Day 4
England 2nd innings: 378-6 (105 overs)
England lead by 435 runs

111.3: adyhorn plays a confident dab into the on side to make his double century. His arms are in the air, helmet off, lapping up the applause from this appreciative Lord's crowd. Still no declaration though.

adyhorn 200 not out (343 balls) 21 fours, 0 sixes

111.5: That one was just too quick from IloveGilly for PaulNixon1. By the time he had reacted to it the bails were off. IloveGilly really seems to be carrying this Australian attack. Now, evertonfan, what are you thinking?

PaulNixon1 b. IloveGilly 7 (20)

CG123 comes down the steps, still playing. The lead is 453.

112.6: evertonfan stands on the balcony and waves the two batsmen in, just as the over finishes in which England brought up 400 for the innings. Game on!

End Of Innings
England 2nd innings: 402-7 dec. (113 overs) (adyhorn 201*, Burnsy1 78, evertonfan 57)
Australia need 460 to win

Daunting total needed for Australia. 460 runs required to go 2-0 up in the PlanetCricket Ashes. England have four and a half sessions to take ten wickets. It is going to be an exciting innings!

3.2: The umpire has raised his finger and the crowd are going wild! Jumping up and down, even the members are dancing in their egg and bacon ties. hedger14 simply failed to play that one from CG123 and he's out leg before, looked good enough. This opening partnership was going to be vital to Australia's chances of rescuing, or even winning, this match so this is a huge moment.

hedger14 lbw b. CG123 4 (15)

The captain Feelin Blue? made a nice half century in the first innings but he is coming in in the most difficult of circumstances. Still 449 to win, only 9 wickets remaining. The middle order needs huge scores.

11.5: Bowled him! evertonfan changed his bowlers when it looked like Roofrom50 and Feelin Blue? were settling in and Burnsy1 pops up with a wicket in his first over! England on fire here! Too fast for Roofrom50 and he played it far too late.

Roofrom50 b. Burnsy1 22 (38) 2 fours, 0 sixes

Mad Snake also made a fifty in the first innings but he needs more than that now. 422 needed, 8 wickets in hand.

18.6: That's tea and England are roaring. A mammoth total set for the Australians to chase and two vital wickets poached. Four sessions left and a monumental effort is required to save this game for Australia.

Tea, Day 4
Australia 2nd innings: 56-2 (19 overs)
Australia need 404 to win with 8 wickets in hand

39.1: Pakistani Army, you beauty!! Massive wicket for the spinner. Feelin Blue? getting close to another fifty, Australia steadying the ship, and a ball from Pakistani Army straightens up on the captain and treva takes a high catch.

Feelin Blue? c. treva b. Pakistani Army 47 (95) 1 four, 0 sixes

Gilly Fan, yet another fifty man from the first innings, comes to the wicket with 40 minutes left in the day and 344 still to win.

43.2: Another inspired bowling change from the England captain! Burnsy1 launched into a passionate appeal and went mad when it was accepted! It looked a bit dodgy, I must say, but no one really cares because Mad Snake is on his way leg before!

Mad Snake lbw b. Burnsy1 40 (100) 3 fours, 0 sixes

It isn't in Hooper's nature to block, but he needs to have a go at defending if he wants his country to stay in the lead in this series. 328 to win, 6 wickets to go for the home side.

43.4: Oh my word! England are ecstatic! Hooper had been dropped first ball and scrambled a single, then next ball Gilly Fan is late on one and edges to Will NA at second slip! Surely England have to win this now!

Gilly Fan c. Will NA b. Gilly Fan 14 (17) 2 fours, 0 sixes

biggy09 is in now, I think scoring another 327 to win is out of the question, they are going to have enough on their hands to draw this now.

48.6: Penultimate over of the day and how fitting that the captain takes the catch! Shocking shot to play in the situation, a wafty on drive edged behind off CG123. The dangerous middle order is gone, and one more recognised batsman for England to remove.

biggy09 c. evertonfan b. CG123 12 (17) 1 four, 0 sixes

The wicketkeeper OffCutters makes his way to the middle, one over to go today and a full day tomorrow for the Aussies to survive.

49.6: A standing ovation for the England team as they leave the field. Australia on the rocks. A full three sessions to go and they are six down, needing another 307 to win. Are England going to level the series?

Stumps, Day 4
Australia 2nd innings: 153-6 (50 overs)
Australia need 307 to win with 4 wickets in hand

PLAY OF THE DAY
england-flag-1.jpg

ADYHORN - 201* (345) 21 FOURS, 0 SIXES

England wobbled at the start of their second innings but a commanding double century from opener adyhorn helped England post a massive total and as a result they are now well on the way to victory.

We are in a bit of a bad situation here. Ilovegilly is a bloody gun. Not a bad debut for me but the team is going really bad. Need rain. Or a good partnership. Would prefer rain...

What a knock from Adyhorn, has tottaly eclipsed my knock unforuntaetly! We look good for a 2-0 lead! You aussies are rubbish!

why is it that in ICC 09, the 2 openers play well in both innings of the first test then get low scores for the next 2/3 games.

The chances of victory are impossible, the chances of a draw are practically impossible as well. Well done to adyhorn on a double ton, well played.

DAY 5

urn.jpg

Australia had their backs against the wall going into the final day in front of a packed crowd at Lord's. 4 wickets in hand, still 307 needed to win. The aim must be to bat out the day and draw.

Hooper, the extravagant player he is, actually knuckled down in the morning session and with the wicketkeeper OffCutters batted for most of the session, taking their partnership past a hundred. With the scent of lunch in the air, treva ran in, bowled a peach, and got the big man out leg before.

Hooper lbw b. treva 72 (106) 10 fours, 0 sixes

Shortly after the break, IloveGilly, hero with the ball, played an ugly tail ender shot to CG123 and was caught in the slips by Burnsy1. England closing in.

IloveGilly c. Burnsy1 b. CG123 6 (11) 1 four, 0 sixes

We join play just after lunch, Australia are 281-8, 179 to win. OffCutters is on 46 not out, Covvy 3.

83.5: An on drive for four gives OffCutters a half century. He's batted for a long time, good innings in this situation.

OffCutters 50 not out (107 balls) 4 fours, 0 sixes

86.3: Lazy shot from Covvy but I think he's got outside the line. NO! The umpire's given him out! England are so close now! Covvy can't believe it!

Covvy lbw b. CG123 5 (15)

The last man plods out. Octavius doesn't look confident, on the balcony the Australians look downbeat and the crowd are just waiting for this last wicket. 171 away still, 1 wicket in hand, nearly two sessions remaining.

103.2: Got him! England have won! The last two put on 38 but OffCutters was plumb LBW to that Pakistani Army spinner. Amazing scenes here, England level the PlanetCricket Ashes!

OffCutters lbw b. Pakistani Army 73 (180) 5 fours, 1 six

END OF MATCH
England 1st innings: 372 all out (Holdenator 147, evertonfan 63, Giggity Giggity 61, IloveGilly 6-98)
