The Reintegration Thread

KP in the commentary box reminds me of when Channel 9 dragged in Shane Warne to commentate the cricket during the year he was suspended for taking those weight loss pills. That didn't exactly sit comfortably with me I've got to say.

Are you seriously comparing someone who's been banned to somebody who's been dropped? I don't see the comparison there to be honest.

It's comparable in the sense their is a similar stigma surrounding both players, while in absence going into the respective commentary stints.

Australia fans at the time (at least in some quarters) were suggesting after a few years of bad publicity from Warne with those text messages saga with women - the drug offence was the final nail in the coffin and he should not play for AUS again.

Well I guess I'm not saying that both situations were EQUAL, it just reminded me of Warne that's all. In both cases the popularity of the players will end up triumphing over the negativity of their circumstances. As War said, there were some very annoyed people with Warne, but equally, extra people tuned in in 2003/04 to hear what Warne would say - it'll be the same for KP.

I personally DIDN'T like that Warne was glorified when he was banned. It's not far away from hiring Salman Butt or other match fixers. It's just a mark of respect for the game, if you've busted the rules - stay out of sight please (one man's opinion...)

Perhaps a more appropriate one to compare DIRECTLY to KP might be Andrew Symonds getting hired as a commentator after he was dropped from the Aussie team in 2009 - went out in pretty damning circumstances but was popular enough to get a job out of it.

I'm with shifty on this one.

I can see comparisons, while KP was "dropped" he was dropped for disciplinary reasons for inappropriate actions. He wasn't dropped for poor form or to give him a rest, and he was deliberately not picked for the T20 squad despite his u-turn and making himself available for selection for all forms of cricket.

it is effectively a ban, just hasn't had a length attached to it, quite probably because the ECB don't want to ban him as it will probably make the situation worse, and are hoping to resolve it quickly.

Call it "dropped", call it "frozen out" (temporarily), it all adds up to being disciplined/banned. It's like suggesting various Liverpool managers have "left by mutual consent", you can bet your bottom dollar they didn't want to go and yet did not have any say in the decision. So effectively they were sacked, forceably ousted from their position.

Will Strauss' retirement mean a return for Pietersen in Tests? Or does Flower need to go as well before he would be back?

Strauss' departure will make it 'easier' I'm sure, can't imagine the selectors will shun him for too long.

If England keep losing I don't know long they can last before running back to him! However, if England have a good T20 wc and tour to India then he won't be back soon.

apparently an interview is about to be published in which he stated he was enjoying his retirement from ODIs and moaned about the ECB. it was given before the headingly test but it's not likely to help anything.

I think it's probably best for england to draw a line under it, if they have to go crawling back to him after another bad series or two with batting frailties then so be it, but I think it's probably best to just say, he's not in contention for the forseeable future. there's too much muck around and it's making it easy for journalists to fill column inches speculating on the matter which doesn't help.

I've read it. It's in this months' cricketer and arrived today. Nothing too explosive to be perfectly honest.
I can scan and upload if you're desperate.

I'm still confused by the whole situation. There seems to be a genuine attempt to keep KP in the press for all the wrong reasons. He can't really have done more than apologise and retract his requests after the incident. The press have been ridiculous about it as well, consistently linking the story to just about anything.

I can't read it but I think I know this interview. Read about it on cricinfo. Basically KP says he is enjoying not playing ODI cricket or sumin along those lines. Gotta say, he said this before his apology. Where this stands with the ECB and Cook I'm not sure.

Read on BBC he hasn't been given a central contract, that may further fuel the fire.
