I was to go to a hearing in two days time. If I lost I could lose my license and be put in jail for 6 months. I quickly phoned up the skip who contacted the club's lawyers. He arranged to meet me tomorrow after the match. It was a rubbish ending to a good evening.

lol, all of a sudden, this event has made the entire thing to look as bad ending. :p Its always nice to read on/off the field cricket actions in career stories.

Nice storyline!

Sunday 30th March

So we had finished our warm-up when I noticed that we were a player short. Andy was missing. As we headed out to the middle I asked the skip where he was. He said he had to make a sad announcement. That didn't sound good. Eventually we were in the team huddle.

"Right guys as I am sure you have realised Andy is missing. Last night Andy found out that his parents have been killed in a car-crash in Durban. Obviously he is in great shock and flew out this morning. I spoke to Streak and he and the Warwickshire boys have agreed to a one minute silence. The PA is going to make an announcement now."

He signalled to the announcer.

"It is with great regret that we report that Mr and Mrs Hall died in a car-crash last night. We will therefore be holding a one minute silence after this announcement. Thank you for your co-operation."

The Warwickshire team walked out and we all formed up in a circle. There was silence throughout the ground. Eventually the PA came back on and thanked everyone. We all shook the Warwickshire teams hands and they went back leaving just the openers. The skip called us back over.

"Ok boys. Let's win this match for Andy. With him missing we are going to have Tim Marsh up from the 2XI fielding for us. Sheriy your going to open the bowling with Martin. The key for us defending such a low total is to get early wickets. If we can do that we should win this."

We all broke up and I joggd over to first slip, where i was promptly pushed out by the skip saying that when I was captain or he was dead I could field there. But until then I would be at second slip.

The openers started their spells. The Warwickshire batsmen had a slow start, building the partnership up, but crucially, no wickets. Niall was having a terrible time behind the syumps letting 12 byes through allready. Eventually the skip told me to warm up and I started doing my exercises. I would be the first bowling change replacing Sheriy.

Eventually Martin finished his over and it was time for me. The skip gave me two men on the pull as both Warwickshire batsmen had been looking to hook and pull. With the score at 33/0, they were beginning to look set and we needed a wicket.

Things however did not seem to want to go our way. I don't know what was wrong with Niall. His hands seemed to be made of butter and he couldn't hold onto everything. Wagh nicked one of me and it was a regulation catch for Niall but he somehow dropped it. I was pretty annoyed. Wagh and Knight continued to build the partnership up finally reaching 50, (although many of those had come from extras) we were reaching crisis point and we needed a breakthrough.

The skip in the end turned to the bowler who had been so sucessful in the first innings. Jimmy. And he didn't fail. In his first over he managed to completely deceive Mark Wagh and trap him LBW when it just caught his foot first. Jimmy did his usual exuberant celebrations, while we all hugged and cheered him. 50/1, we had broken the partnership.

Bell and Knight began to rebuild the partnership and it began to near 20 runs. Knight especially had looked in good touch, quickly accelerating to 31 after a slow start. Out in the field at fine-leg, I was thinking over my spell so far. I had been very miserly with my runs and was hoping I could get a wicket soon. While I was day-dreaming I hear a big cheer. Jimmy had got ANOTHER wicket clean bowling Knight for 31. He had attempted to drive him and inside-edged it onto the stumps. 67/2. We looked to be on top now, as we were carving through the dangerous top-order. Jimmy had been having an amazing match so far and hopefully the England selectors would notice.

Ian Bell had been looking to take the attack to the bowlers. He had just hooked me for six  which had annoyed me. I tried to out-wit him and bounced him again. It hit a crack on the pitch and shot up. He attempted to hook me again, but did not quite connect with it.

WAS IT A SIX?

OR WOULD THE FIELDER TAKE THE CATCH?

Find out in the next update ;)

Sunday 30th March

Ian Bell had just hooked me. It had appeared to be a top-edge. Would it reach the rope and go for a six, or would Cooky, the fielder at fine leg take the catch. I watched as the ball kept on rising and rising. There was a bit of wind coming from behind the ball and I hoped it wouldn't affect it too much.

It kept going...............

........... Still waiting :p

It began to fall. Cooky was moving would he get to it first.

YES HE DID

Cooky positioned himself underneath the ball and took a comfortable catch. I had got the wicket of Ian Bell!!! An International player  I was really pleased. The team all came running in and we celebrated, I high fived Cooky for taking the catch. Ian Bell gone for 19 and Warwickshire were now 75/3. Could we pull an unlikely win out of the bag?

We now had Trott and Powell at the crease. We were expecting them to try and play some defensive cricket up till the lunch break, but boy were we wrong. I had been taken out of the attack as I had bowled 7 overs straight, but Cooky suffered greatly from their assault. He was smashed all over the ground for a few sixes and the score really began to shoot up. We really needed the Lunch Break to come and eventually it did with the score 108/3. This match was in the balance.

It had been a very good session for us, and I walked into the pavillion with Jimmy. All of a sudden there was a lot of noise and Cooky cam running out,

"Bloody hell. Ian Botham's in the changing rooms and he wants to speak to you two."

OMG Ian Botham. I looked across to Jimmy who had an expression on his face like he had been told that his mother really had 4 arms. We both opened the doors and walked in. He was just leaning against the wall.

"Hi there you two. I've been watching you two and I have been very impressed by how you've been playing. Your Jimmy right? (He asked Jimmy)I've have been very impressed with your bowling and batting abilities. I've come to ask you if you'll pop up to London with me tomorrow and if you might have a look around and I'll introduce you to some friends of mine."

Jimmy sort of half grunted half squeaked a yes. He looked like he might faint. Botham then faced me.

"Only your second first class match and you already have a half-century and a few wickets. You never know you could be the next me.

There was silence

"That was a joke you could have laughed. Anyway I'll have my eye on you young man."

With that he walked out. We were thrilled. I had been spotted by Botham. Things couldn't have looked better. We headed upstairs where the skip was talking. He obviously knew what had happened as he just smiled at us and carried on. Throughout lunch I was in a sort of daze. But I had to get my head screwed back on.

We still had not won this match, but combined between me and Jimmy we were moving towards a positive result. All we needed to do was get a few more wickets and then we would be there.
