Friday practice

After a rather disappointing race in Malaysia, I was determined to deliver an improved performance in Bahrain. However just a week?s gap between the two races meant there was no testing and no time for any major adjustments to my car. All I had were two practice sessions today and one more tomorrow morning.

My team manager,Tsu Tomita, had however given me his full backing and had asked me to remain calm and patient and assured me that better times lay ahead. I too realized that for someone in his first year in the sport of Formula 1, setting the world on fire was probably asking for a bit too much. I also acknowledged the fact that the experience of my team-mate Jarno Trulli definitely gave him a massive edge and advantage. So from this race onwards, although I was eager to do well, I decided not to bother about others but concentrate on my driving instead.

Well we were told that there might be rain during the weekend, enabling the prospect of a wet race. So all the teams, including Toyota F1 Racing, were prepared with dry weather, wet weather and intermediate packages.

1st session:
The skies were clear and fine today though as the first practice session got underway. I had absolutely no experience of the Bahrain Sakhir circuit and this was no doubt going to be a big challenge for me. The cars started posting laptimes and once again it was the BMW?s who continued to impress. Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica were leading the timesheets before I went for my first try.

And it was a horrible attempt as I went on the gravel twice and was well behind the average times set. However I did manage to adjust eventually and posted a quickest laptime of 1:33.382, earning myself an impressive eighth place, and ahead of Ferrari?s Kimi Raikkonen. Mclaren?s Lewis Hamilton took top spot with a time of 1:32.870.

2nd session:
The second session too was in dry weather, and once again it was the BMW?s that set the early pace. Kovalainen and Raikkonen who were disappointing in the morning responded well to lead the timings at some point. But Nick Heidfeld went even quicker to post the fastest laptime of 1:32.849.

I did just 6 laps this time around but still managed seventh position.

Some good driving there after the two comings off in the first lap. That is a very respectable time and beating your team mate both times has got to be a confidence booster. Qualigiying will be very interesting...

This will be the 100th post in the story mate, congrats and keep it up it's and excellent story.

Regarding your driving, it was very good that practise session, you were only a few splits off of Hamilton in that 2nd round of practising!

Alonso top, Coulthard surprise

Saturday Morning Practice:
No sign of rain come Saturday morning as well and infact the weather experts had suddenly changed their predictions from expected showers to slight chances of rain. Nevertheless, we were prepared with both dry and wet weather equipment.

I was the second driver out on track for this third and final practice session. In my very first attempt I did a 1:33.430 lap, not very far away from my fastest time set yesterday. I was beginning to enjoy driving on this track and by now was more than comfortable with it.

Mclaren?s Lewis Hamilton was top for most of the time, before rather surprisingly being beaten by David Coulthard in a Red Bull who clocked an impressive 1:33.083. Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen were able to go faster but the BMWs of Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica could only manage fifth and sixth place.

I improved on my previous times to set a quickest time of 1:33.395, taking eighth place, ahead of the Williams of Nico Rosberg.

Qualifying

My performances during practice have been pretty impressive, but its how you do in qualifying and the race that really matters. Practice times are often misleading and the official qualifying session reveals a completely different story on most occasions. But I was confident that I could continue with my good form.

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were the early time setters with the latter posting a laptime of 1:33.399. In my first attempt, a slight mistake going into turn number 10, saw me losing time to post a lap time of 1:34.453. I straight away went for a second try to post a time of 1:33.402, earning me provisional second place.

sakhir_Q_p1.jpg

But as expected that dint last long as the others cars came on track. By the end of the session, it was Ferrari?s Kimi Raikkonen who took pole with 1:32.922. Nick Heidfeld was second, with the defending double time champion, Fernando Alonso, in third.

I went quicker myself to post a 1:33.388, taking eighth place on the grid. I now had a brilliant chance of scoring another championship point come tomorrow. But I wasnt thinking about that right now.

Again comfortably beating trulli and again around 8th place. A very good session and gives you a great chance of making a good charge for the points. Looking forward to the race :)

Actually, according to mathermatics, there is not a big difference between 1.32.9 and 1.33.3 but pity that here in F1, it is not allowing only to come in top 5 :p But a great news is that you are comfortable with this track.. So prbly, can aim now to come in Top 5 :) Good luck for the race.
