Two men in the Championship... We're back!!!

:clap I think that's my favorite update of the whole story. I don't know why, I think the fact it's so professional, could easily have come from BBC Sport website.

Good work man :)

Miller grabs late point for Ipswich

Ipswich Town 1-1 Charlton Athletic

tommymillerpl0.jpg

Miller's injury time goal saved Ipswich from defeat

Tommy Miller's late injury time goal saved Ipswich from yet another defeat, this time at the hands of Charlton Athletic. Miller's goal cancelled out Andy Reid's first half goal, that had sent the away side into the lead.

Andy Reid's goal came from a superb Yassin Moutaouakil free kick. Reid jumped above the Ipswich defenders and headed the ball into the back of the net, to make it 1-0.

With time running out, Tommy Miller bagged only his second goal of the season, from a corner, to give Ipswich their second draw in three games.

Charlton boss Alan Pardew felt his side deserved more than they came away with from Portman Road. "We didn't deserve that late goal, and it's scarred what had been a great performance. I'm disappointed with the referee as well. The goal was scored a minute and a half over the scheduled added minutes. I'll let you guys at home make your minds' up about that."

Ben Manning claimed his team deserved a bit of luck, something his team had been missing of late. "Well we may not have deserved the point, but we deserved the luck. A little more of it could go a long way of helping us stay up this season. Hopefully we can start something from here and start to push ourselves back up the table."

Phillips on his way to Ashton Gate

kevinphillipsfy4.jpg

Kevin Phillips will join Bristol City in the new year

Bristol City have signed West Brom striker Kevin Phillips for a fee that is presumed to be around ?700k. The deal will go through on January 1 at the start of the January transfer window.

Kevin Phillips has found himself in the West Brom reserves so far this season, where he has scored 9 goals. Bristol City manager Jack Teague has had problems up front so far this season, and he hopes that Phillips will be the answer to those problems.

The young manager stated he was delighted to have wrapped up the deal, and he can't wait for January 1 to come around. "I'm very excited. Kevin Phillips is a class player, one I feel who should be playing regular first team football. I think he's got 5 more years in him yet, and I hope he plays most of them here at Ashton Gate. I'm sure the lads will be delighted to play and train alongside him, and the coaching staff are also looking forward to working with him."

Teague added that he thinks the fans will warm to him at Bristol. "The fans will love him. He's a fantastic player who has a lot of passion for football. I'm confident he will give the fans something to cheer about."

When the transfer goes through on January 1, Bristol City will be Phillips' seventh club. The Hitchin born striker has had 390 career starts, scoring a whopping 183 goals.

Kevin Phillips is a great signing. Phillips was good with Sunderland so hope he doesn the same for Bristol ... Great work :clap

Hey guys, this is the first post since before Xmas, which just shows you how things have gone.
I have recently had my OS re-installed, and have lost FM08, all the saves etc. I also cannot find the disc, so I can't re-install it even if I want to.
Basically this is a post of thanks. Firstly to all of you for reading this story, and especially to those who commented, this started out as a sortitoutsi project, but there was no feedback from them lot so we brought it over here. I think 16 pages is testament to you guys, for sticking with us, and helping us along our way. It has been fun (for Jack, seeing me lose every week), and more importantly, it has made me and Jack (I would consider) great friends.
Which is who I am thanking most of all. Thank you Jack, this has been trememdous fun, it has improved my writing skills (most notably the ability to write impartially about a game which I was piss-awful in), and it has been great to share it with you. I understand this sounds sentimental and whatnot, but the game time was running over 2 and a half days, that doesn't include the time we took setting it up.

Thank you guys, maybe it will return in the future?

My thoughts exactly. It may not be the most historical story in PC history but it's been great for me and Ben. Definitely been the base for a fantastic friendship that hopefully will continue for a very long time. Shows that internet forums are not just usless places for 'loners' to waste time, as many people who do not go on forums believe. It can really improve many things and create brilliant friendships that will hopefully continue outside of the forum in a few years time. And for that I would like to thank PlanetCricket, you guys and most importantly Ben for being crap at FM, a great laugh and someone who I can really have a good chat with.

Amen.

Who's got the tissues?

Dirty minded boy... :p

Was a very good story guys, was also fantastic to see Ben do so bad. Seriously though, hopefully we can see another combination from you two in the future which can be just as successful as this was. I think this story had many silent readers, who i'm sure enjoyed reading the story.

Byfield ends City slump

Norwich 0-1 Bristol City

darrenbyfield.png

Byfield hit the winner on 33 minutes

Darren Byfield scored his 8th goal of the season to hand Bristol City their first win in eight games as they beat Norwich 1-0 at Carrow Road. Norwich dominated the game but Bristol City managed to hold off the home side to land a much needed victory.

The only goal of the game came just after the half hour mark. Bristol City hit Norwich on the break and when Malcolm Christie played in Byfield he wasn't going to be caught. Byfield slipped the ball past an advancing David Marshall to put his side in front.

Norwich came close to scoring in the dying minutes but Adriano Basso saved well from a Simon Lappin free kick.

Bristol City manager Jack Teague stated his relief at ending the club's streak. "It's about time really. We had gone way too long without a win, and although we weren't the best side today, I'm very happy with the outcome. We need to kick on now and push up the table."
