Again, just like the opening matches England have struggled in the first 15 overs. Thye have only took one wicket and have been extremely costly going for over 7 an over. Meanwhile at the other end Gough has been far more economic but has bolwed his 8 overs finihsing wicket-less.
- England take the important wicket of Gilchriost who was caught in the gully by Giles.
For Australia it has been plain sailing with M.Hayden proving that he should have never been dropped from the One Day side after he smahsed 50. Moreover Ponting has played some brilliant shots moving his score onto 29 and leaving Australia in a comanding position.

Australia V England - TELSTRA DOME, MELBOURNE D/N Update after 25 overs ANTOHER WICKET BUT AUSTRALIA CONTINUE
Despite S.Jones removing Hayden for 50, Australia have continued to score runs at a fast rate. R.Ponting is nearing his half century and has been well supported by D.Martyn who is in the twneties now. However three miss fields in the space of 3 overs has meant that England are now in a very diffiuclt situation.
- Jones removes hayden who is caught at Long on.
- Martyn and Ponting construct a good partnership despite the hostile bowling from Flitnoff.
VB Series Match 1: January 14th 2006
Australia V England - TELSTRA DOME, MELBOURNE D/N Update At End of Innings HUGE TARGET BY AUSTRALIA THANKS TO PONTING
138 by R.Ponting has left them in a comanding position sicne they posted England 317 to win, under lights against a pumped up Aussie side. Ponting and Martyn shared a huge partnership of over 150 before there was a collaspe where Harmison picked up 4 wickets and Gough 4 as well. However, by this time the score was already a massive amount and the wickets taken were pointless to England. Aparty from the opening 4 there were few other big scores with only M.Hussey being the only other batsmen who made contribution and it was big one of 21 from only 8 balls. For Engl;and Harmison was very very expensive with his figures 85 for 5 from 9 overs. Moroever Gough was equally expensive going for 64 from his 10. So with the lights on can England win what would eb one of there greatest victories ever find out soon.
- Ponting celebrates a magnificant century.
- Martyn acknowledges the crowd after putting on 50 and building a big partnership with Ponting.
- Martyn departs after being caught of Harmison by Vaughan.
- Gough removes the danger man with a beautiful yorker.

Australia V England - TELSTRA DOME, MELBOURNE D/N Update After 15 Overs ENGLAND STUN AUSSIES WITH ATTACKING START
Marcus Trescothick has lead an English attack against the mighty Asutralian team by Hitting 47* and enabling England to be 91 for2 after 15 overs. Alhtough Englandrae 0.54 runs behind the required runrate, i think any team would be pleased with this start; especially since England failed ot win either of their warm up games. Trescothick was supported by the Captain before he gave his wicket away after mis timing a cover drive. This therefore means the out of form Pietersen comes in in need of runs for himself, and his country. For Australia there has been little to write home about with all the bowlers used being costly. However B.Lee has looked threatening even though he is only into his 3rd over. So can england make this huge target find out soon.
England Require:
235 runs from 35 overs at 6.71 R.P.O

Australia V England - TELSTRA DOME, MELBOURNE D/N Update After 25 Overs TRESCOTHICK CONTINUES AS ENGLAND DOMINATE
England have continued from were they left of with 6 runs an over being scored. Meanwhile the Australians have taken only one more wicket with Pietersen falling to a slip catch of Lee. However, Pietersen showed signs of form repeatedly smashing the fast bolwers for 4, furthermore he shared a vital partnership with Trescothic which was worth over 50. Trescpthick has looked solid out in the middle and has had few scares suggesting that a big score could be on the cards.
England require:
177 runs from 25 overs at 7.08 R.P.O

Australia V England - TELSTRA DOME, MELBOURNE D/N Update At End of Innings ENGLAND PULL OF AMAZING WIN
A stunned Aussie team left nthe ground deflated after England completed one of the best run chases in the games histoyr. The attack led by Trescothicks 91 was completed with 4 balls to spare with Steve Harmison smashing a 6 to finihs the game. However at one point it seemed England were out of the game. After England lost Flintoff and Trescothick there task of winning the game was made very difficult with the final outcome being 81 needed from 10 overs. From here on G.Jones dominated sweeping 2 fours and lifting Englands hopes. However when Hogg removed Collingwood and then Giles the game looked lost however Gough stepped up and smashed a huge six leaving 7 to win from 7 balls. However a rush of blood from Jones meant he threw away his wicket when he skied a miss timed sweep shot to B.Lee. Now it was 7 from 6, a quick single exsposed Harmison at the strikers end. Harmison comes down the track and dispatches the ball for six making England win.
