West Ham United : Two Worlds?

Ever been to Coventry? Now thats where you have got to go to get stabbed. Its like Alton Towers for knife wielders!

Nottingham is worse for stabbings and all that kind of crime. All wannabe California gangstas up here, some people just kill for the hell of it.

Anyway guys, lets get back on topic...

Match Report:

We came out of the blocks faster than I anticipated! I had hardly sat down, let along get my notebook and pen out when we took the lead, a long ball from Paintsil caused all sorts of problems in the Mallorca defence, Ashton took advantage and powered the ball home in sensational style. What a fantastic goal that was! 1-0 after just 4 minutes. After the goal, we startedto come under pressure from Mallorca, who levelled things up on 27 minutes, a super strike from Borja Balero soared straight into the top corner. Green had no chance and stood motionless as the ball sailed into the top corner. But just 2 minutes later, we re-took the lead, Bellamy cut open the defence with strike partner Dean Ashton, they played a one-two and Bellamy was through, and again, in teh form he is in, he made no mistake. We managed to hold our lead up until half time, adn we went in for the break.

Well, another great half and we were in front again. Not the best defending for the goal, but hey! We were up again, I decided to make no changes and just told the players to go out and keep the good work up.

We nearly started the second half in the same fashion as teh first, as a long ball from Ferdinand was chased down by Bellamy who tried to lift it over the 'keeper, but his effort landed on top of the net. We tried to keep the attack up, but for the next 20 minutes we created nothing so I decided to make a couple of chnages, Ashton and Dzsudzsak off for Cole and Noble. Nothing changed as our attacks were weak, but with hardly any time left, we got a third goal, and it was another nice move, a long ball from Ferdinand was nodded on by Ashton, Bellamy ran on the end of it, rounded the keeper and tucked it away. Another goal for Bellamy, and he looked in good nick. Full time, and that completed a 100% pre season!

West Ham Utd 3-1 Mallorca

Another win and performance to go with it. A super game, and Ashton and Bellamy are looking even more dangerous than I expected, something which filled the squad with confidence, and again our defence was solid. I was especially pleased with Bellamy obviously today, who ran his legs off for the whole 90, and always looked a threat. Also, Anton Ferdinand was solid at the back today and won everything he contested in, so all round another super performance. Pats on the back all round.

nice win again Craig but clearly Jaz will eventually beat you over the course of the season as he has the best supporters behind him, GG... oh crap he supports you, now that is a problem but i'm still backing Jaz.

BTW going off the topic and to Craig's message about Jaz's martial arts skill. you say that he has licked every kid on the block... care to elaborate on that?

Its a term for beating the living daylights out of someone...he hasn't literally gone round and licked them like a cat.

Weekly Review

west20ham20logoyo9.jpg

The second week so far has been quite uneventful apart from the one select training match. Settling in has been a bit difficult for me, and if it is difficult for me then god knows what it must be like for the players I have brought in from overseas. Some reason the Fans aren't very happy with my signing of Celestine Babayaro although it may be because he used to play for Chelsea? No doubt he will win them over. I haven't really noticed how good the youth academy and facilities are and even the ground is quite big for a club of this stature. Nonetheless the stature of the club will progress with time; whilst I'm here anyway.

On the injury front we have 7 injuries still. However on the bright side Charlie Adam will be back between 1 and 3 days whilst Ljungberg and Green will be back between 1 day and 2 weeks. Apart from that Davenport is still out for a month whilst Parker and Quashie sit on the sidelines, and aren't expected to be fully fit for 1-2 months. Faubert with the most serious injury and will be out for around 5 more months. General fitness of the team is not bad at the moment however we have a tricky schedule lined up and I hate having so many games within a few days. Might have to bring some youth players up for a bit of experience. Although, if we get no more injuries we should be fine.

Only the one player in since the last update, Sylvain Marveux from French club Stade Rennais FC. The Attacking Midfielder left is a great quality player and with him coming into the side might push Aaritalo upfront a few times instead of Bellamy but we will see how that goes in a few friendlies. A deadly player to have a free kicks and Corners could add a new dynamic to the game and will give us another option in our formation and lineup. Secretly we have made a bid for Phillip Bardsley in Private for 650k. Over a third under his actual value! More a business deal I'm afraid though for the 22 year old. We are also sniffing around Pablo Piatti and Gabriel Torje but nothing is set in stone so no press releases yet I'm afraid. We have offered Cillian Sheridan a contract and he will go straight into the youth team as we are kind of lacking players in there at the moment. Not for long though as James Edmonds is on the case!

Next week has a lot more to report on than so far as we have 3 friendlies during the week, all away in fact so travel is going to be a bit of a stumbling block. 3 weeks exactly until the start of the Premiership. Nerves are kicking in now...

Match Report:

We go into the game buzzing but our fortune is not with us as we pick up our 8th injury this season with Dean Ashton, our star player, having to come off. 10 minutes gone and Henri Camara Camara comes on and can hopefully higher the somewhat low tempo. Let's hope the injury isn't long. As Pomorac start to dominate it is unfortunately clear to me and my supporters that they are going to score first. And by god we were right. A free kick by Lisica was whipped in beautifully and fell straight on Toplak's head. A dream goal but we shouldn't of conceded the free kick in the first place. They are going to have to play even harder now! 30 minutes gone and we get our first chance, through the middle past the last defender Craig Bellamy takes on the keeper and hit his shot straight into the side netting! How did he miss? As the half comes to a close it is clear Pomorac are going to be leadin... GOAL! The only sub so far Henri Camara slots home for West Ham thanks to a great through ball from Dyer. A super sub maybe? Todays referee Denis Pranjic brings the game today as the loudspeaker above boasts about the 3900 people hear today. That ain't bad, away in Croatia.

Friendly, friendly, friendly. That's what they are telling me at the moment, not to take my job seriously? I want to win this game and I will. This is evident as I make 4 substitutions at the break. Pantsil, Boa Morte, Zamora and Bowyer come on for the shattered Noble, Aaritalo, Solano and Bellamy. Hopefully a few fresh legs can make all the difference and give us the edge in this game, however coming into the game all their players were full fitness and don't look tired so I can still see this going to the wire. Hopefully in our favour.

We come out into the second half as if we want to win, something we didn't do in the first half. It pays off as we get our first chance after 2 minutes as Dyer again the main man, passes to Camara, who's attempted finesse shot is saved. From the corner Camara gets another chance, cleared off the line by the scorer Toplak. A beautiful delivery by Paintsil to give him the chance though. Our third chance in the move comes moments later when Dyer this time takes a shot himself and his shot is tipped over. How do we beat him?! A great attacking display to start the half and hopefully we can get that breakthrough. 57 minutes gone and Spector crosses in and luckily for them one of their defender headers behind for our 3rd corner in the second half. Ferdinand! Oh so close. It looked like it was heading for the top corner but unfortunately his headed hit the bar, with no one close. A counter attack soon appears, the only way they are attacking at the moment, and Tomjenovic has a shot on the edge of the area go worringly over. We have to close down quicker! I then go crazy and make 6 subsitutions. Spector, Upson, Ferdinand and Babayaro from the defence all go off with Camara picking up a slight injury so we will rest him too. Dyer is the last man to come off after impressing me bucket loads today. Hopefully we won't need to make anymore subs. Inevitably Bowyer gets wound up with 15 minutes to go and I'm not risking him getting sent off, so on comes Hayden Mullins. As we increase the tempo, in search of that last goal, Pomorac see a chance to attack and on a break they so nearly do. Krznar with an opportunity but Wright saves and the ball rolls across the line and looks as if it is going in but an amazing run by Mullins saves the day for us and we go away from the chance with the score still at 1-1. Zamora then runs into Kovac and seems to be injured but he will carry on as we have no subs left! Meh, it's only 10 minutes. With Zamora off the pitch recieving treatment we nearly get another goal with Carlton Cole having a header tipped over. As Pomorac defend to their hearts content it's clear we aren't going to get a result today and that happens. Today's referee brings the game to an end and unfortunately we couldn't prosper.

Pomorac 1-1 West Ham Utd

Injuries again! This isn't good and hopefully none of the players injured will be out for long, although knowing Ashton he probably will be. Zamora's looked worse so I can see him being out for a while. Onto the game and we were so unlucky not to get the win, although a draw was probably just. It was always going to be hard in Croatia but the lads did well but we should of made an impact with our 16 shots. Celestine Babayaro was the best defender and if he can keep turning in these performances then hopefully he can win the crowd over. There was only one midfielder for me today and that man was Kieron Dyer, with a lovely assist and generally at the rock of all our moves and tracked back well as well. Great performance. Camara put himself about the most but no strikers really did anything special in the match unfortunately, and with Pomorac getting that early goal it was sad. Wright made 2 saves but conceded a goal he could do nothing about so not all bad. Our tactic seemed to work for the majority of the match but sometimes it wouldn't and they would break, we will need to perfect some of the minor problems in training I think.

Todays Scorer For West Ham; Henri Camara

Arrgghhh! More injuries! Ashton, Zamora and Camara! Its like the real West Ham! Great updates Jaz, glad to hear you have the internet. And the result isn't that bad actually because its hard to settle in a friendly, so in a meaningful match, you'd walk it.

Marveux is a decent signing, and it makes it all the better that you got him for a cut price, and Faubert is the same with mine, but I have good cover for him. Although obviously I want him back ASAP.

And Bellamy looks off colour in your game, but stick with him because he'll come good. Bellamy was crap at the start for me too, but he is banging them in now!

Right guys, Jaz has gone and he will be back on Tuesday, so he is going to write his updates on a notepad again and post them when he gets back, as for me I am going to start my new season soon, but there will be a couple of weekly updates before that! Hope you enjoy them!
