I've got no argument with the fact that Broad and Anderson are both uncommonly good players, but to dismiss the others because they don't stand up so well against two of the greatest seamers in English history is silly. It's like saying that Damien Martyn was no good because he didn't score as heavily as Ricky Ponting
But you still would be rest assured regarding Australia putting up runs on the board. He might not have scored those many runs but he did have the skills to do what Ponting would do. A strong and relentless pace attack would mean that you have enough backup to replace your best bowlers and yet maintain the level of performance.

Bam! That was over sharpish! Quick 150 odd and do it all again.[DOUBLEPOST=1595763392][/DOUBLEPOST]

I could go into this but this is the England v West Indies test match thread.

Apologies for that. Didn't mean to move away from the discussion. Would try and post in the team thread next time. :thumbs

I think what's made the Windies suddenly fall since the 1st test match has been the lack of faith from the management in their own batsmen. Ever since the series has started, there has been so much pressure on the top order by both the Windies captain and their management and it seems like that has resulted in an overconfidence in their bowling attack with Holder's decision to bowl first in all three test matches. Yes, you could defend their choice with slightly overcast conditions and some moisture in the pitch, but the Windies bowling attack would be fatigued with back to back matches with a short break in between and it wouldn't have hurt to believe in their batsmen to grit it out and see off the first hour in tough conditions, the way Sibley and Stokes did in the 2nd test match, and Burns two days ago. The Windies batsmen have been under the pump with pressure placed on them from the get-go. Perhaps it could have helped the Windies to have their bowlers rest for another innings at the start of a Test match and be fresh to bowl in the 2nd and 4th innings.

Despite that argument, the Windies batsmen have been unable to build on collectively as a batting group and they missed out on making hundreds and posting big scores which could have seriously put them ahead in the last two games. John Campbell and Shai Hope have been a big disappointment, Campbell doesn't look suited to grit it out against the new ball and he's played poor strokes this series. Hope has no credible scores in Test cricket over the last 2-3 years, while his white ball career has taken off he has looked tentative against the swinging cherry and a few domestic matches should help him polish his red ball game.

I said "This attack" - meaning the attack we see in this Test which includes Broad and Anderson. I was only talking about their bowling at home when they get to use the Dukes. Woakes has a pretty good record in ENG. Archer took 22 wickets at 20 v AUS. Obviously not comparing these guys to the great attacks we've seen or anything of that sort.

Got to feel for Da Silva there on that stumping; looked a bit silly but very little more he could have done. But I really do like the look of his glovework - he appears to be the Windies' best available gloveman by a distance. I think the next question is whether there's any chance of Dowrich having value as a batsman in the future

Having looked at the forecast, the Windies have to hope that tomorrow is washed out, and survive the 5th day. Extremely unlikely.

I would like to see England bowling at them tonight for at least 15 overs.

I'd give Burns five overs to go for a ton then pull the plug and get Broad on
