Happy, very happy. Finally the selectors have started differentiating between overseas form and subcontinent form. Though it has taken them so long to understand that Dhawan is a subcontinental run scorer, this selection sends across the message that 'if you don't score overseas, you won't be given chances to get easy runs at home'.

Time ripe for Prithvi Shaw to debut against West Indies and try to make a test spot his own. Hope Ishant recovers in time for the Australia tour. Siraj is a good selection, but Shardul Thakur??

Yup, a bit odd that Shardul is still with the team, he seems to keep finding a place with the squad. It's good to see Siraj in the Test squad, he's consistently performed for the last few months and deserves his place. I'd like to see him as the fifth bowler on the tour of Australia ahead of Thakur. He's got a lot more pace than Thakur. He's seems to be performing well in first class rather than limited overs where he was mediocre.

Good to see Dhawan out of the team. I wonder what Karun Nair must be feeling like. He sits on the bench for a whole month in England, and when the time comes when he'll finally play a game, he gets benched again for no sane reason. What has he done wrong to stay out of the team?

IMO, Shaw should start up for the first test match alongside Rahul. There will be a good mix of conservative and aggressive at the top of the order. At some point, Rahul should be rested, Shaw and Agarwal should open.

It's good to see that India have invested in younger talent for this series.

Bishoo will be sure to play an important role for West Indies but will be interesting to see if they choose to opt for Warrican as a second spinner or stick with Roston Chase. Probably the former as pace options don't look very inspiring with Alzarri Joseph apparently having been withdrawn from the squad so once again a lot of pressure heaped on captain Holder to lead the attack, apart from him and Gabriel can't really see many wickets coming from elsewhere in that department with Roach lacking match fitness as well.

He hit 2 fours ( ground at Baroda about 23 kilometers from my house in Gujarat) before dismissed for 8.i was more disappoint as Vihari (3) and Nair(29) also not doing much.

Shemran Williams certain to debut at rajkot. Who had 8 wickets for Windies A vs India A in England he generate good speed yesterday he had wonderful spell 13/6/19/2 while others gave away too many.(360/6)

Can't understand this co-ordinated rant from Harbhajan and Ganguly, asking why Rohit Sharma is not included in the test squad. And they are OK with Dhawan being dropped (i.e. no question raised by them on Dhawan exclusion).

Rohit falls in the same category where he becomes a dud when confronted with overseas conditions and when he has to play out time against quality bowling attacks against swing/seam and pace/bounce. Rohit and Dhawan are limited overs players and should be kept there on a consistent basis. Giving them a chance in home tests is only going to create a false illusion that they are good test players and then they are selected for overseas tests where they fail and crash back down to earth with a thud (in the process, hurting the team).

I agree. While home form while is still a factor, it needs to be taken with a heavy grain of salt when selecting squads for overseas tours. The fact that some selectors are still under the assumption that success in one particular set of conditions will replicate seamlessly over to another that is markedly different at the other end of spectrum is pretty frustrating.
