Says a little something about its popularity amongst World nations, doesn't it?

Whereas, there are numerous International Football tournaments and the sport is prevalent in at least 200 countries while, Aussie Rugby or whatever is not.

Thats called an opinion Matt. It might not be true but now I'm saying an opinion.

Yanks only call it Soccer because they know our sport is so much better than 'American' Football.

Are you stupid? From this, i understand it as you saying "American Football," is just Soccer.

Im sure i'm interpreting it wrong, but "American Football," is Football, its where you have 4 attempts to make the line!

What will?

Here in Aus we call it soccer because we use football for our better games and the alternative name (soccer) for the sport no one cares about.

Thats how it is here and in America.

Exactly, Kids play soccer up to the age of 10-ish, hell even i did, then they realise where the girls are, basketball, Football (The American variety) and baseball, the last one is a bit iffy :p

Doesn't mean soccers a better sport here. Besides AFL sucks, dont compare soccer to it!
Rugby League have tri nations and very popular state of origin.

Exactly, just because a sport doesnt have a world cup doesnt make it a bad sport. AFL is a prodominately Aussie sport, Rugby Leagues world cup is coming up, just because it isnt world wide, like Soccer, doesnt make it any worse? Its better.

SOCCER!

Football. Soccer is what yanks call it. And no one likes yanks.

And Matt, without the "Yanks," the World Wars back in the day might not have panned out the way they did!

Bah, people may not like the Yanks, but they sure as hell like them more than the scouse!

The sports correct name is association football, and it has been since the game was first codified. It has NEVER officially been called football. Soccer is an abbreviation, started in late 19th Century England, despite what some may think.

It is just one form of football, which also includes Rugby Union Football, Rugby League Football, American Football, Canadian Football, Australian Football and Gaelic Football, amongst others. Calling each of them football is equally valid.

Offically in Australia it's now called football and AFl is called AUstralian Ruls and Rugby Rugby
Officially? I must have missed that memo. I use whatever will be the least ambiguous, so if everyone knows what football I'm talking about when I say football, I'll say football (if that makes any sense), if it isn't clear (like if I'm comparing football with football) I'll use the other names (soccer, aussie rules, league, etc).

Its football dammit.

To clear it up rugby is a breakaway from football aswell. Some cheat made it up ;).

I don't mind what people call it, I voted for football because it's what I'm used to but if it causes confusion in other countries then it is alright to call it soccer.

I'm English so I call it football. It was originally football, and should be football everywhere. Doesn't matter much though really.

Nope, the game now popularly known as football was originally called association football, and still is.

Its football dammit.

Might help if you got your facts right. Both rugby and association football are descendants of the same game. The William Web Ellis story is fiction before you bring that up.

You must know some weird Australian people.

I still call AFL "footy", Rugby "Rugby" and Football "Soccer".

I am not stupid and I never said American Football is 'soccer'.

Football is football, not soccer..

and American or australian football or whatever is Rugby ...

For me!

Association Football is a sport predominantly played with the feet whereas Rugby, Aussie Rules and American Football are played a lot with the hands.

Exactly, just because a sport doesnt have a world cup doesnt make it a bad sport. AFL is a prodominately Aussie sport, Rugby Leagues world cup is coming up, just because it isnt world wide, like Soccer, doesnt make it any worse? Its better.

SOCCER!

And yes it does make it a worse sport as it shows it isn't very popular amongst other nations.

Football (The English variety ) is better.
