Don Bradman is the second best Australian batsman of all time, behind David Boon and Phillip Hughes.

Btw Ben, Steve Waugh also said Matthew Elliott would average over 50 in test cricket.

Steve Waugh also said "fat ****" and "fat ****" a lot.

Who Else?Off Course Greg Chappel

Without any shade of doubt it has to be Greg Chappell. He is a cut above the rest.

However it would be unfair not to mention the exceptional talent, skills, exploits, and awesome batting feats of the following Australian batting maestros :

Steve Waugh - What a Batsman!. In terms of fighting/Match Saving abilities and winning from impossible situations he has no equal. We have all seen that umpteen times.

Ricky Ponting & Matthew Hayden - each is a master batsman in their own inimitable style. Both are nothing short of genius as their records testify .

Not to forget Neil Harvey a Super batsman, fielder of the past. One of the most attractive batsman to have graced Australian cricket. He had exceptional stroke making ability, style, great timing and footwork. A crowd’s delight.

Justin Langer all day.

Probably my favourite Australian batsman ever, and probably the Australian player I enjoyed watching the most during past years. I?ll most remember him for the great Perth innings againt Pakistan, was amazing against Shoaib Akhtar. Steve Waugh was the best Australian Batsman.

Justin Langer is underrated here.b.

I m confused what one option i see is MATHEW HAYDEN, reason? all thanks to comparing threads X vs.Y and Ben Brings Hayden into it as "Z"
Australia's only been challenged in just 6 different series over the past decade: India 2001, India 2003/04, England 2005, India 2007/08, India 2008 and South Africa 2008/09. If you combine all of those statistics from those series' then Hayden has easily been Australia's best batsman over the past decade when Australia have been challenged.

Cricinfo Statsguru - Test matches - Batting records

He is the only batsman out of our lineup to have scored multiple 100's and have averaged over 50, even though Andrew Symonds is the only other batsman to have averaged over 50. Even the great Ricky Ponting has played more matches then Hayden over this period but has scored less runs, at a noticiably lower average.

I'm not trying to say Hayden isn't greater then Ponting, but the gap between Hayden & Ponting is smaller then what allot of people give credit to. Plus I wanted to make an example out of this little fella, for his constant taunting of me.

Am I missing something, this is because you have won the most matches in recent history. Recent history being since the late 1980s, when the amount of cricket being played has surpassed all previous generations.
Well, Australia holds the record and I don't see others beating it for a fair while and I don't see Test Cricket getting played more often.

But what are you saying by posting that link, I assumed it was an attempted point about the quality of your top batsmen.

Here is the best Aussie Golfer and second best cricketah,

Where's Glenn McGrath on that list? Certainly that 50 would be better than any Ricky Ponting or Matthew Hayden ton you've ever seen. :D

I'd say Punter, as long as he can keep batting well he is every chance to break the record for most runs, and he's definitely proven to be one of the best of all time over his career. Let's hope his form slump is only temporary.
