Why do cricket sport other sports?

safe and convenient? Well to be safe, why not just videos and not practice may be play little ea cricket...and lets ask the icc to change the rule so we can have gloves at the games and may be instead for the stumps just for bases for convenience(since pitches are hard to make) and safety:p

its ok for coaches but players shouldn't use them...they need to practice catching and learn to catch to you dont get broken fingers not use gloves when its not even allowed. cricket sports a lot of other sports while in return no other sport will sport(promote) cricket in any way

But sometimes players use the mit when not dueing fielding practise they could be doing a different drill.

Orams obviously using it to catch balls being fired at him, then he can throw himself and fire one back. You see most teams use them to warm up their arms. I don't see anything wrong with cricketers throwing around a football or whatever from time to time.

never said there's anything wrong...just that cricket's the one sport that promotes other sports...which to me is irritating

Football commentators often use drift and shape (spin bowling terminolgogy) when describing ball curve. I see nothing wrong with sports using other areas of sport in their training/warm up etc. For example in the England team, a lot of them are Rugby and/or football fans so not only would it raise their morale to lark about in a game with their mates in their beloved sports, but there are also technical aspects that can be learned from it.

It isn't promoting other sports, it's just using other sports as part of it's warm up/practice, which is something that ALL professional sports usually do.

I know that Everton normally have a game of cricket in the winter just before Christmas. Bit of useless trivia but it shows that most sports use other sport as a means of either practice or team bonding.

As part of their pre-season warm-ups, Manchester United used to play a charity cricket match against Lancashire. I think theres other similar ventures either still going on, or recently ended.

I know for a fact that Burnley football club play a game against Burnley cricket club every year.

Though, I have to say that cricket the most athletic of sports out there, so cricketers will to play soccer or basketball to stay in shape rather than work out. I don't quite get that picture you posted though. Why would a cricketer need to practice catching with a baseball glove?
Cricket is most definitely not the most athletic sport there. You won't see Leverock play football even for my local club team.

hey,, he was great to watch and very much entertaining... he could play as goaly, he'd block every shot without even moving...

Phil Neville will enjoy that, he's an uber cricketer apparently, would have been better than flintoff according to flintoff., but he chose to play football, and its good to see that he's achieved, if he hadnt he could have been the opposite to Gary Pratt, turning from 1 match wonder in footy to cricketer.

Alot of sports use different sports in warm ups so the team can have something fresh into the team and bond together more.

Cricket is a mentally involving sport due to the time, players spend playing it,they play other sports to switch off and relax
