With cricketers quitting international cricket for IPL, should IPL be finally granted a window?

i definitely agree about creating a window ! like it or not, money talks !

i'd suggest increase the 2-test match series to 3-test match series and
decrease the stupid 7 ODIs to 3 ODIs and 1 T20 thrown in for fun !

this way test cricket is alive and well, ODI fans get their due and 1 T20 so that casual fans take interest as well.

Let them go play mickey mouse cricket like the mercenaries they are, will it be any different to Packer and also the rebel South Africa tours and the choices of cricketers then?

There should definately not be a window for the IPL. It is still a domestic tournament where more than 60% of the players are indian. WHy should there be a window for a tournament which only allows teams to have 4 international players per team. You can't compare it to football as in football there are many major money spinning leagues with more teams and no limit on the amount of international players.

Unless they remove the limit of international players, it should remain the way it is. Also, two months for a bloody T20 league is insane and the way it is going, soon it will be longer.

Why the thread suddenly got silent? :p

why is he banned? looks a matter of multiple a/c :spy

I don't see how you can create a window for a domestic tournament. Especially one as long as IPL is now. While I agree that often on some tours too many games are played and I can also understand the financial motivation of a player. I do think players are wanting to have their cake and eat it here. Fine, if you want to be available to play all of IPL, then be clear and upfront about it, and don't sign a central contract, and be prepared to lose your place in the international side at the same time. But if you do sign a central contract for your country then you really have no reason to be upset.

I do wonder how big a draw "international" players will be in the IPL once they've quit playing international cricket for a while though. There are much better T20 players in England than Flintoff ever was, but they have never made that leap to international status and hence nobody in IPL-land is interested in them. Possibly a player of Freddies status will be able to survive on his name for a while, but other players certainly won't have that luxury. They'll fall from the public eye very quickly and their lucrative advertising contracts will dry up to boot.

No we don not need window for IPL. There are so many contracted players that majority of them will be free when IPL comes and there can onlu be 4 internationals in any side. So most of these players do not even play.

Collingwood and Piegon are examples from Delhi Daredevils.

i dont want cricket to become like soccer. players dying to play domestic over international

Good point here, cricket is one of the last sports in which playing for your country is the most prestigious form. Everything else is club, which I hate watching, because you are not supporting your country, rather some rich prick's team.

lol I dare you to post that in a footbal forum somewhere and see the types of emotional response you get back.:D:D

I have no experience or exposure to soccer, I was speaking for American sports mostly.

What is the current trend in soccer? Would love some clarification.

There is no trend in soccer. Its about pride, honour and history.

All the loyal fans care about is preserving all those above factors at whatever cost. Its not all about money, but money is what keeps those factors afloat, hence the mega bucks that circulate in the soccer stage.

I suppose I did not phrase my question properly.

Which is considered to be the more prestigious event in soccer, the World Cup or the finals or the most popular club league?
