With cricketers quitting international cricket for IPL, should IPL be finally granted a window?

Howsie... Yeah. You look for an opportunity to pull it down. I look for an opportunity to take it up. We make a great pair, don't we? :sarcasm

will the IPL benefit every up and coming cricket player in the Caribbean and every different island in the Caribbean when only a handful of WI players participate. I dont see any good from the IPL.

The only 20/20 solution I see that would actually benefit these countries is a tournament where 3 top teams (or more, or less) from every country participate in a 20/20 tournament that goes to every nation that has a participating team. Promote the game and give some of these lesser teams some more income.

Hmm. Agree with the 2nd part of your answer. In response to the first, what does England's Twenty20 Cup or Australia's Big Bash or South Africa's Standard Bank Pro20 do for every up and coming cricket player in the Caribbean and every different island in the Caribbean? "NOTHING" is the right word, isn't it? ;)

do I hear Aussie people or English people making a claim that their 20/20 tournaments are good for cricket in other countries. I have yet to see any make such claims.

Your the one that said the IPL will benefit other countries when in reality it will benefit a handful of players, at least from the Caribbean.

These leagues are almost soley domestic, similar to the Stanford league in the Caribbean. And non of these leagues are asking for a window to play with their internationals even though almost all the teams in Australia, South Africa and the West Indies did better than the IPL teams in the Champions league.

Each country has their own T20 league but the IPL is the only league which splashes out money to bring the best players in the world. The rest just use players from their youth academy.

Well buddy, IPL has actually been a boon to a lot of cricketing nations. It has helped unearth Shaun Marsh, helped Shane Watson make a comeback... read more here - http://www.planetcricket.org/forums/cricket-discussion/i-have-seen-light-60365-3.html

And to be fair, South Africa has benefited from the English leagues. Many a Kolpak's are now being convinced to return back to represent SA. Ryan McLaren and Martin van Jaarsveld are a few among many.

No I don't. I'm just getting sick of you making things up about the IPL, you talk it up so much it isn't funny. So far on this forum you have said the following things:

-Without the IPL Australia would not have found Shaun Marsh and David Warner.
-Shane Watson would not have gotten back into the Australian team without playing in the IPL.
-You claimed the reason for the West Indies turmoil is because their player's aren't allowed to play in the IPL.
-Without the IPL Fidel Edwards would not have improved as much as he has over the last 18-24 months.

And that's just a few of them. I don't look to shoot down the IPL, I look to shoot down claims like these.

Buddy, IPL, the BCCI, Lalit Modi and the franchises have NEVER asked for a window. Players and cricket administrators are. Some National boards are.

And is it a bad thing if India has money and splashes it out to bring the best players in the world to play a "domestic" league? I don't think so.

As for the players from the youth academy, I'm sure everyone aims for an IPL contract these days. Be it a 16yr old at the start of his career in the remotest part of Bangladesh or a 38yr old staring at the end of his career.

Give IPL a window and get done with this

in case you arent familiar with Watson this isn't his 1st comeback to international cricket and he did it without the IPL before.

and if anybody was going to figure out what kind of a player Marsh is that would be the Aussie in their own domestic cricket leagues which are probably the best in cricket.

Those 2 probably arent coming anywhere near the South African team MvJ is 35 and the McLaren cant compete with Steyn, Ntini, Parnell, Tsotsobe and the Morkel brothers.

Im sure the goal of every up and coming cricketer is to represent his country. When you can do that the IPL contract will come much easier and the money you receive is greater.
If their goal is to get to the IPl when they are 16 then they will never turn out being great cricket players.
And a 38 year old cricket player sure can go for the IPL at the end of his career. Might as well milk out some money after accomplishing many other things for your country 1st. If SRK wants to throw huge money at a 38 year old dude who is he to refuse it.

Zondeki is higher up the calling order then McLaren. Id also rather have C De Villiers than McLaren

They do just as much good as the IPL does for the Windies.

Look buddy, you know and everyone knows what I'm saying is true. The difference between me and maybe others is that maybe I've got the balls to say it publicly.

But your constantly argumentative nature seems to leave me no option but nail you openly here.

=> Shane Watson has publicly said that thanks to the IPL, he could make a comeback to the Australian side - Shane Watson | Champions Trophy 2009 | IPL | Shane Warne | Rajasthan Royals - Oneindia Cricket

=> West Indies is a mess because their players aren't allowed to play in the IPL. I know and everyone knows it, but you for some reason choose to blatantly ignore the obvious. So I give you not ONE, but TWO sources-
1. Cricket: West Indian players contracted to the IPL may pull out of the England tour unless their on-going dispute with their board is resolved quickly | Sport | guardian.co.uk
2. India shot down Test championship - WICB chief | Cricket News | Cricinfo ICC Site | Cricinfo.com (Read the second-from-last paragraph in particular out here)

=> As for Fidel Edwards, I don't even need a source to highlight the wonders that IPL has done to his confidence, but well, I think this is a good article - Fidel Edwards bowls at his miserly best in IPL

=> As for the Kolpak thing, here are not one but TWO great articles for you-
1. Ryan McLaren and Heino Kuhn earn call-ups | South Africa Cricket News | Cricinfo.com
2. Sports Leader Adam Wakefield Kolpak ruling a win-win for SA and England

And I see I have a stalker. But I'll take you as a fan. Thanks :)

PS- The next time you wanna argue, just make sure you know what you are talking about. Like I said, you are a likable but very argumentative bloke

...and the McLaren cant compete with Steyn, Ntini, Parnell, Tsotsobe and the Morkel brothers.

McLaren was picked over Makhya Ntini and Herschelle Gibbs a few days. Don't you know? - Ryan McLaren and Heino Kuhn earn call-ups | South Africa Cricket News | Cricinfo.com

Completely agree with you on this one. They won't turn out to be great cricketers if the IPL is what catches their interest. If a veteran like Dan Vettori had to take a very difficult decision and publicly said that players shouldn't be forced to choose between IPL and country, I understand the predicament of a youngster.

Which gives further impetus and credibility to the assertion that IPL should be given a window

Watson:

"The captaincy and coaching ability of Warne was a great learning experience. I learnt how to control my emotions," he added.

Yeah, he's thanking the IPL for getting him back into the Australian team :sarcasm

As for the West Indies situation, the current situation has nothing to do with the IPL, they weren't getting paid by the WICB, what does that have to do with the IPL?

As for Fidel Edwards and that article, he was only mentioned once:

Deccan Chargers? fast bowler Fidel Edwards with his miserly figures Sunday night against Kolkata Knight Riders produced the best economy rate by any bowler in the Indian Premier League (IPL

Yeah, that proves that the IPL was the reason for his improvement. He was improving before he even went and played in the IPL this year.

How much more pwnage can a person take? Just stop now rdfan while you still have some credibility left.

:doh you obviously have no knowledge of WI cricket and its issues to even make a statement like this. These things go way before the IPL, o I would say 15 years at the least.

This tour was made after Sri Lanka had to let its players play in the IPl because the BCCI almost own Sri Lankan cricket. And the WICB made the tour without even asking the players or WIPA...

What does it have to do with making the game better in the Caribbean? I dont see how any of this will allow the IPL to improve the standard of cricket in the Caribbean. At the end of the day the standard of a nations ability to play cricket is judged in a test match not a 20/20, and with money going to a chosen few players it wont make a difference.

If you didn't notice Fidels game picked up way before this years IPL. Again you are talking about something that you don't follow. Fidels game picked up from the arrival of Dyson and his change in attitude and training regiment for the players.

good for McLaren he still wont last long in the team.

Your probably the only person on the face of this earth that would take something like this

Which gives further impetus and credibility to the assertion that IPL should be given a window

and interpret it into something like this

my friend this deserves a big facepalm.
