Story world cricket (C07) sign up to be a side

Preseason
game 1
NSW 325-10 off 45 overs.
B.Haddin 88 off 53
S.Katich 85 off 85
P.Jaques 72 off 73
C.White 3/46
Yorkshire 254/6 off 50 overs.
J.Sayers 58 off 75
M.Clarke 1/15
New South Wales made a great start to the season with the bat after anopening stand of over 150 at a vey fast rate,in the end it was perhaps a little too quick with the 5 bowlers but the openers 2 big scores and number 3 Brad Haddins 88 off 53 guided the Aussies to a massive total. Haddin had to make some runs having ran out star player and debutant for NSW Kevin Pietersen for just 4 runs. Craig White was expensive but picked up 3 crucial wickets and if it wasn't for him NSW could have made a seriously huge total.

Yorkshire attempted to chase but against the world class attack of NSW it was clearly out of their reach. They batted well too reach a solid total but there were just more runs than they could score against that attack. Sayers opened up solidly if a little slow but really no-one pushed on and carried them home.

game 2
Middlesex 190-10.
S.Styris 58 off 40
J.Anderson 5/65
G.Keedy 3/11
Lancashire 192-1 off 40 overs.
M.Loye 72* off 103
S.Law 52 off 72
R.Ponting 51* off 64
S.Styris 1/41

Middlesex were done by some late great swing bowling from James Anderson. The yound England player goes from strength to strength and continues to impress having destroyed middlesex with some really quick bowling.Murali performed solidly whilst Keedy was the star spinner with 3 wickets. Scott Styris fought but it was too little and Middlesex posted a poor score.

Lancashire cruised ot their low victory target in flashy style with debutant Ricky Ponting scoring a quick 51* whilst Loye made a great start to the season with 72*. Scott Styris once again was the only man showing any fight but Lancashire were a class above today.

Don't worry the next pres will be a bit better than this with videos an stuff :) just its only preseason

I'll have the Fredster if he's not already taken.

he plays for lancs so Phil would have to agree, would be easier for you to take someone who doesn't play for a team in the competition :p

Shut up :p

If he doesn't agree then I will have Vaughan because no-ones got him yet have they?

ill have stuart broad please
Good choice
I think i should just clarify the rules again because i don't think i got them across well enough. As manager of your team you pick 1 overseas player from anywhere in the world, 1 player from your country that doesn't play for any teams in the competition. Then you are allowed to do as many trades as you like with the other managers for one of your players.
@ culli i can't see him agreeing for a week :p i'll give yu Vaughan in the meantime.

I think by 'your country' he meant the country of your team, ie England, not the country you come from, Ross. :p

EDIT: btw, Im interested if anyone drops out and you don't have anyone to fill in.

yeh i mean from the country of your team ;) sorry Ross, don't worry you can have Monty. He's better :p I'll add you to the waiting list saltires

Preseason
game 3
Sussex 192-10 off 40 overs.
R.Montgomerie 38 off 72
G.Wagg 3/34

Derbyshire 167-10 off 42 overs.
S.Stubbings 46 off 67
G.Wagg 46 off 69
M.Yardy 3/52

Sussex posted a low score aftr a poor middle order performance left them on the ropes for a while. They managed to scrape their way to something respectable thanks to some contributions from the lower order but Derbyshire bowled very well and deserved their advantage. Wagg took 3/34 off just 3.4 overs! Mark Chilton looked in good touch on 21 before smashing it straight down the man at long ons throat inches from being a 6. Although this is a relatively low total with Sussex's bowling it will be a tough ask for Derbyshire.

Derbyshire looked to be cruising before a collapse of their middle order left their chances hanging by a thread. A fighting knock from man of the match Wagg however got them back in control and with 3 wickets left they were crusing to their target in the last 10 overs but then another collapse sparked by some shockin running and great death bowling by Kirtley meant that Sussex were able to clean up and take the win. Derbyshire did show how they were more than capable of winning repeatedly but the pressure got to them and today Sussex's men were a class above despite the big names not firing. The great Sachin Tendulkar failed to impress on his Derbyshire debut like team mate and captain for India Dravid did for Sussex with Dravid getting a duck after being bowled out and Tendulkar getting run out for 5. Still things look promising for both sides.

game 4
Warwickshire 306-10 off 39 overs.
M.Jayawardene 80 off 83
M.Wagh 70 off 92
C.White 2/26

Somerset 292-10 off 47 overs.
A.Gilchrist 70 off 80
M.Wood 53 off 40
M.Wagh 5/88

A thriller down at Edgbaston in a very high scoring game showed 2 of the stronger sies in this competition really have some fun with the bat. Warwickshire posted a mammoth 306 off just 39 overs only stopping because of their regular loss of wickets. Englishman Ian Bell failed with the bat and so did star keeper Sangakarra but their lower order produced some serious runs and Mahela Jayawardene played a top knock of 80 off 83 on his Warwickshire debut. This would be a real tough ask for Somerset but with Trescothick and Gilchrist opening and Cameron White at 3 the rate wouldn't b an issue!

Somerset came so close before 2 silly wickets at the death lost them the game. Wagh was destroyed by Gilchrist but he got his man and this confidence boost lead to him running through the Somerset middle order but once again it was the lower order that fired getting the side from Tauton desperately close but still not close enough. Warwickshires attack looked shaky and the same could be said about Somerset but if these 2 sides bat like this every week then they will cause anyone a problem next season.

Gilchrist:warming up before playing a superb knock for Somerset

game 5
Essex 250-10 off 45 overs
W.Jefferson 59 off 67
M.Ealham 3/46
R.Sidebottom 3/48

Nottinghamshire 250-7 off 50 overs
C.Read 90 off 140
D.Bicknell 56 off 62
R.Bopara 2/2

Essex posted a solid total in their start to the season of 250 all out. The top order got starts but failed to capitalise and the top score came from former Notts man Will Jefferson. Some quality bowling from Ealham and Sidebottom kept the total down to something Notts could chase but at the same time Essex felt that they could defend.

In a thrilling chase that went down to the very last ball Essex managed to snatch a tie from the jaws of defeat as Nottinghamshire fell away at the end of their innings. Having not bowled a single over Ravi Bopara was given the ball for the final over with notts needing 4 to win,he picked up 2 wickets and Shane Bond was on strike for thelast ball,he mistimed it to mid on and notts didn't take the single. Earlier Chris Read hit a solid but unspectacular 90 which really should have been match winning. 2 evenly matched sides here looking ready to go for the upcoming season. Thats the end of preseason, bring on the real thing!
