Australia come close, but not close enough

Australia have landed just 4 runs short of the Poms with Gilchrist, Hayden, Symonds, Hussey and Maher all chipping in to make Australia just short of the England's total. If this can be the case in the Finals, we are going to have a cracker of a Finals series ahead of us, as Australia and England are already into the Finals series of the Commonwealth Bank Series. Gilchrist made 55 and Hayden made 50, a great start to the innings, but things just fell short for Australia. James Anderson was the best for the England bowlers taking 2 wickets. And now it shapes up to be a magnificent Finals series between the rivals Australia and England

Australia make a good start to the Final

Australia have a good start in the 1st Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against England. Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist have started perfectly to hopefully produce Australia to a good enough score at the end of the 50 overs. 20 overs into the match and Australia are looking at a 250 innings if Hayden and or Gilchrist goes on to make a big total. Adam Gilchrist is on 32 and Hayden is on 25, a partnership of 61 from 20 overs. England have produced 4 extra's, with 2 wides and 2 lb's. Both Gilchrist and Hayden have faced 60 balls, but its Gilchrist that is really making the oppourtunity with the field set for the power plays, smashing 5 boundaires of his 32. Matthew Hayden not so much playing with the field set, but has hit the 1 boundary and a 6 way into the crowd.
England's Matthew Hoggard has been used for 10 overs already by Vaughan going for a expensive 32. Stephen Harmison has been used 6.0 overs, 1 maiden and conceeded 21 runs. But Andrew Flintoff have pegged Australia back a bit, bowling 4 overs, 2 maidens and conceeding 6 runs.

Australia look for 200+

Australia looked to have the game in the bag when Gilchrist and Hayden were at the crease. A 93 partnership from the pair, got the home crowd singing along, and making the mexican wave their own. But as soon as one of those men departed, the wickets started to fall for Australia. Andrew Flintoff decided enough was enough, and got rid of both Gilchrist and Hayden, superb bowling by the vice captain, bowling them both clean stumped. Gilchrist making 43 and Hayden making 45.
Ricky Ponting was Australia's next hopeful to make a good score, but was run out by Jones just on 6, and his partner at the time, Michael Clarke, went straight after him, bowled by Giles and caught by Jones for 4. Australia now 4 down for 100, England looking good at the moment.

Matthew Hayden unlucky gone for 45

But Australia got some relief from the power hitters of Symonds and Hussey, good to have them down the order to bring Australia back on track a little bit. Andrew Symonds facing 20 balls, hitting 32, with 8 boundaries in his name, even with the field set back, because of the no fielding restrictions which was taken early in the peace by Vaughan. But Symonds still found a way through the England field. Even Michael Hussey played well for his 28, off 29 balls, and smashing 4 boundaries, but more importantly, the field was set back by Vaughan, but Hussey hit the ball back over their heads for 6 on 2 occasions. But England still looked in controll, with Vaughan taking the wicket of Symonds and Anderson taking out Hussey. Michael Vaughan then struck again with the wicket of Maher on 16, and now Vaughan finds himself one of the saviours for England in the last few matches with his great bowling. Brad Hogg and Brett Lee are now at the crease for Australia with 10 overs remaning, what can they do?

England to chase 225

Australia have set England a resonable score of 225. Australia behind Gilchrist and Hayden both men making mid 40's to help Australia to such a resonable score.
Andrew Symonds and Mike Hussey really clamped their position in the game, and some good hitting by Hogg at the end of the innings, gives England a good score to chase, and Australia will be looking to play well in the field and bowl well.
James Anderson and Michael Vaughan were the best of the bowlers for England with both men taking 3 wickets, Andrew Flintoff with the all important wickets of Gilchrist and Hayden early in the piece. England have stuck with their regular team, and with Pietersen and Strauss firing up front, it will be an interesting battle to see what England can do from here.

England needs 225 runs to win

Australia own the first Final

Australia have beaten England in the first Final of the Commonwealth Bank Series. Australia set England 255 to win, and England didnt even come close, making 168 off 45.3 overs. Australia really bowled well after their effort in extreme heat when batting. Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen looked alright for a while but both of those men really dissapointed the crowd with scores of 11 from Strauss and 13 from Pieterson and all of a sudden England were 2/26 something they didnt need. Captain Michael Vaughan tried to help the scoreboard, but 38 wasnt enough and now England were down 3/50. Vaughan and Collingwood helped the scoreboard look more respectful, but Australia still had this game in the bag right from the word go. Collingwood made 43 the best from the England bowlers.
Australia and England will now face of in the 2nd Final, and if Australia wins, they win the Commonwealth Bank Series, but if England win, they will need to play another match to decide who wins the Commonwealth Bank Series.
