World Test Team

1. Virender Sehwag
2. Gautam Gambhir
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Sachin Tendulkar
5. Jacques Kallis
6. Michael Clarke
7. Kumar Sangakkara
8. Mitchell Johnson
9. Muttiah Muralitharan
10. Dale Steyn
11. Zaheer Khan

Pretty much perfect for me. I had some doubts of Murali though (:eek) considering his recent form...

I hate to be playing Sanga that low as well, but it is what it its.

Let me try...

Viru
Smith/Gambhir
Kallis
Shiv
Tendulkar
Dravid
MSD (+)
Vettori
Anderson
Steyn
Asif

Steyn-Anderson-Asif as the seam attack, Vettori for the spin option, and Kallis the backup seamer. Viru the backup spinner. Batting wise, I had to shift Dravid down to 5 for the sake of balance. MSD, Vettori and Anderson make a pretty strong lower order. Best opening pair I could think of, and Sachin is there simply because he's, well, Sachin.

Isn't that his regular spot? Or is it number 4? I forget :p

Just swap him and Shiv around. Problem solved.

Gautam Gambhir
Andrew Strauss
Rahul Dravid
AB Devilliers
Michael Clarke
Dan Vettori
MS Dhoni +
Mitchell Johnson
Dale Steyn
Zaheer Khan
Doug Bollinger Some One Might Dissagree
12TH Man Kallis

Gautam Gambhir
Andrew Strauss
Rahul Dravid
Kumar Sangakkara +
Michael Clarke
AB De Villiers
Daniel Vettori *
Shakib Al Hasan
Mitchell Johnson (taken 29 more wickets than anyone else in the last 18 months )
Dale Steyn
Graham Onions

Graham Onions may be abit of a controversial pick, but he's had an incredible past few months. Been far and away the best bowler in England, and has taken 24 wickets at 26 in Tests against the West Indies, Australia and South Africa. Not bad going that, best average of any fast bowler to have played more than 5 Tests in the last 18 months. <3 Graham Onions. Liking that XI alot. Wanted to make it 3 Englishmen and include Swanny, but Shakib's got a better record unfortunately. If I was ignoring the records I'd have Swanny as captain, opening bat and leading spinner, but I thought it'd be best to check the figures.

Since you're going by records Dan, Sanga doesn't keep anymore.

I know, but he's scored loads of runs and he's still as good a keeper as anyone else. Would much rather have Sangakkara keeping than replace De Villiers at 6 with Dhoni, or Haddin or whoever.

And Viru has been going crazy lately as well.

I know, but Straussy's scored more runs and double the amount of hundreds. It's close between the 2 of them but I'm a biased Englishman, so Strauss is in the side. :p

I can't believe people are including M. Clarke in middle order ahead of Sachin Tendulkar. I thought Sachin is more like everyone's choice till I read this thread. :p

May be I was short-sighted or may be others are biased. :spy

You're in the past.

I sure feel that way now. :p

Anyways, my current World XI would have following players:

1. Virendar Sehwag (Ind)
2. Greame Smith (SA)
3. Jaque Kallis (SA)
4. Sachin Tendulkar (Ind)
5. Shiv. Chanderpaul (WI)
6. AB de Villiers (SA)
7. M.S. Dhoni (Ind)
8. D. Vettori (NZ)
9. M. Johnson (Aus)
10. M. Asif (Pak)
11. Zaheer Khan (Ind)

Ind - 4
SA - 3
WI, NZ, Pak, Aus - 1 each

In all honesty, I couldn't find any out-n-out performer from any of the current SL(Vett>Murli) or Eng side. Also, its tie between Steyn and Zaheer for third seamer but I think I am biased towards Zaheer. :p

Clarke and Dravid >>>> Sachin and Shiv

Vettori is a ████ spinner, no offense to the kiwi users here.

Aamer and Steyn >>>> Zaheer and Asif

1) Clarke and Dravid >>>> Sachin and Shiv

Well, I can't defend Shiv but Sachin for sure is a better batsman than Dravid. He can play counter-attacking innings too which Dravid very rarely does. Also, the situtaion Dravid brings the team into with his ridiculous strike rates often results in presssure on other end and hence a wicket too. So, Sachin is no doubt better than Dravid. Also, time n again he has chipped in with crucial breakthroughs.

2) Vettori is in because I can't think of any decent spinner at the moment. Sehwag and co has made Murli helpless and I won't be irrational to think that Murli's decline has started given his age and pitch conditions all around the world.

3) Aamer and Steyn >>>> Zaheer and Asif

Aamer is too young so long to go before he is chosen for a World XI and moreover, Asif is a proven match winner. About Zaheer/Steyn.. I already admitted I'm biased. :D More so, because I haven't seen Steyn in action of late.

I see you haven't learned which sign means what.
