World Test Team

Jumping the gun a little don't you think?

Not really. If you look at what he's done in the last 12 months he seems pretty worthy. Scored a lot of runs at 55, whilst playing for a poor side.

But what logic did you use to put him ahead of guys like Sehwag, Gambhir, Strauss, Smith, Watson?

His average is above all those guys in the last 12 months other than Sehwag, and I don't like Sehwag

Tamim isn't rated very high because he is from Bangladesh. What he has done over the last 12 months, if he had done that playing in any other color, he would be pretty popular. Last 3 years he improved a LOT.

Tamim with broken wrist >>> Watson's opening partners in ODI.

Out of form? Not in good touch?

No, it is because he isn't good enough. Don't play that old race/team card again please, if you had half a brain you would know that he hasn't done enough to be in a World Test XI. He got most of his runs against weak bowling and in flat as hell conditions, he isn't even half as good as Watson is (and I don't rate Watson as a Test opener either).

Tamim has tests against India(2), NZ(1) and England (3, including the one being played atm) and is 2nd on the runs scored list in 2010 just behind Amla. He has been in great form this year and has been probably the best opener so far in 2010 and the way he scores runs and at a strike rate of 76 is good enough to be included in a test for this year so far.
Tamim isn't a big name yet and he gets left behind guys who get in on name not performance. If you had half a brain and paid attention to some things that he has done this year compared to other openers he deserves it just as much as they do.

And where did he score those runs Dare?

Plus India, NZ and England don't exactly have the best bowling attacks going around, Tamim is just a flat track bully and I don't think you can even call him a bully because he isn't even a 1/10th as good as Sehwag is.

And where did he score those runs Dare?

In Bangladesh, New Zealand and England now. He averages better away from home in his career.
The next best openers this year are Cook and Sehwag and where do you think they played? Smith has 2 centuries against England in South Africa so he might gets a shot but he has been so out of form lately and those tests were 5 months ago, cant blame anyone for forgetting about them.

He just scored a 50+ in the first test and got run out in his first test in England. So far this year he has done well enough to be mentioned in the test team of the year.

He should have been out in the first few balls he faced, it was clear that he was out of his depth and league playing on that pitch.

Yea thats why he scored a fluent 50 in England, on his first test trip to England.
Why should have he been out first ball? He played the first ball fine by all accounts. Dont be a straw man.

A fluent 50? Ahaha did you even see the start of his innings?

Yes Tamim's done very well this year, but like TumTum said I think you are jumping the gun a bit putting him in your world test team.
This year Bangladesh have played the most tests (very surprisingly), and are yet to be put up against a decent attack.
Lets face it if you take Zaheer out of the Indian test attack there's very little substance there. New Zealand had Martin leading their pace attack and the match was on an absolute road, so you would of been worried if none of the Bangladesh players managed to score runs. Then I wouldn't call this England attack that great either.
Lets look at the pitches that they've played on, in five out of the six tests they've played this year there has been a 496 plus score, showing you that the NZ pitch, and the four tests in Bangladesh were all roads.
In the next few years he could develop into a world class opener, but ATM if I was selecting a world test team tomorrow to play he would no wear near be in it.

How many openers are fluent from ball one? Or is Tamim the only one that has to get his eye in before he starts hitting the ball. Why don't you try and point out why you think the guys you mentioned deserve a spot on him and try to use something else other then names.

Well thats why you select your team and he selects his team and who he thinks is good and deserves a spot. If he thinks Tamim has what it takes whats to stop him.

Who cares if he was scratchy or not in the beginning? Anderson got the ball to seam around a little bit so obviously he would have been jumping up and down a little bit, or wait he wasn't even jumping, he was just playing it away from his body and he is not known for footwork. Do I have to remind you about Ricky Ponting against Mohammad Aamer's inswingers? He was jumping up and down like a frog. When the ball seams around a little bit it's quite natural that the batsmen find it a little bit difficult early on and remember Tamim was run out by a brilliant throw by KP otherwise he was looking great for a 100.

He may not be as good as Katich, Strauss, Smith, Gambhir, Watson etc but he's only 21 (which is younger than all the players mentioned) and he's shown great signs of becoming a great opening batsman in the future. I would love see him ending his career with an average of 45 and he's very much capable of doing that. Dominant young personality he is, he is a joy to watch. Had he been born in a top cricketing nation, he would have been easily averaging 50+ in tests and murdering all attacks in limited overs cricket.
