Worst fielders in the modern game?

I was reading something in the Wisden cricketer about the Ashes drops in 2005, England dropped more about 25 iirc, Australia dropped 19 iirc, but Australias drops cost about 200-300 more runs than Englands drops!

Danish Kaneria has to be mentioned too I think.

daniel vettori?

Vettori is a fantastic fielder. He makes some great diving stops and some blinding catches at times. Another player who looked silly i nthe field in Australia. He is defiantly not deserving of the worst list.

Seems its the spinners who are generaly the worst but not all of them. But they tend to be better batsman than the fast bowlers so I guess it evens out lol.

as far as Australians went, the recently retired Damien Martyn was not the most reliable man to take a catch, he often fielded in soft positions like mid on or mid off...

but saying that he is still alot better than some others in this cbs series has provided...James Franklin has been ordinary....England apart from Collingwood and Flintoff havent always been quality this series in terms of ground fielding...

McGrath is certainly not the worst fielder going around...a lot of the Pakistan/Indian/West Indian teams have had severe weaklinks in the field despite also having good fielders

But he has taken some wonderful catches! Remember 05 Ashes, England's first innings at Lords? He caught an absolute beauty of Warne, running and diving forward at deep mid-wicket to get rid of Pietersen! Never forget that one...

Oh my! The CBS series was full of dropped catches. I've never seen so many catches dropped in a series, especially so many sitters. The conclusion I've come to, after watching cricket for the past decade, is that Asian countries usually take most of their catches and it's their ground fielding that lets them down, while it's the opposite for countries like England, New Zealand and Australia. South Africa are just too good!
