Xbox One

I don't care about the sharing stuff (no friends), nor do I care about the TV, movie or music features as I want to just play games. The console also looked enormous.

But I have to say Microsoft blew Sony away in terms of the launch itself. They showed us what the console looked like, what it did, how it did it, how they made it do it, what some of the games looked like and it was over in an hour. That's how you do a launch.

Looks like you have to pay to play used games on it as well. Next-gen is looking pretty underwhelming at the moment, hopefully E3 changes that.

Extremely underwhelmed here - I reckon the average PC could do better.

Incidentally, the signs that EA are about to put the PC on the recycled diet again are extremely prominent. For the first time in years, PES is on my radar.

Oh, and the console itself is hideous...

Then again:

I don't know what to believe to be honest, but I'm feeling more positive now than I was a few minutes ago.

Edit: Apparently that comment has now been removed, so we're in the dark again.

Anyone who buys the Xbox One is supporting the rise of cancer in gaming. These have been confirmed so far:

1. It will block any used copy. If you borrow a game from a friend, you will have to pay the full price of the game online. Internet connection is mandatory for game installations. Consoles basically lose their biggest advantage versus PC/Digital gaming here.

2. No backwards compatibility.

Don't even get a console next-gen, but if you do, go with PS4. Its also getting Fifa 14, CoD etc and Sony is not blocking sharing used games on it.

From what I've read, it does not block used copies. When you installed a used copy on a second xbox, it will delete itself from the first one

There isn't backwards capability on the ps4 either

Is backwards compatibility really important?

Certainly interesting that they're looking to deal with re-sold games. The games industry has been wondering how to tackle that for years.

Yep - no more re-selling of games for consolites; it'll be how it works on PC now - everything tied to some account or other.

I think the idea of them getting money for re-sold games is fine in theory, but not at full price. A modest charge going to the people who made the game is only fair.

but it's unlikely to be modest.

On the bright side it should lead to a smarter consumer base. People aren't going to buy all the yearly COD editions and mediocre movie tie-ins because they don't have trade in/re-sale value. they will have to be more selective with their purchases. which should lead to better games.

Absolutely passing on this, PS4 it is.

I'm no PC gamer but I'd rather buy a gaming PC than that and that's a big thing to say for me really, shows how poor the One looks.

I don't see why anyone would want social features on a console other than 12-year olds, normal people socialise in real life!

In that case, check Amazon out - last time I was there, they had some very nice and beefy PCs on sale, for around ?400 - the likely price of the so-called 'next generation' consoles...

And remember, these days you don't even need a monitor unless you want to sit at a desk; you can hook your PC up to your TV remember. I have mine hooked up to my monitor and my TV as well.
