Byas, who led Yorkshire to their first county championship in 40 years in 2001, was sacked after a disappointing season in 2005, and been unable to attract new signings.

Baines, in his first job in management expressed his delight at finally realising his childhood dream,
"I've lived in Yorkshire all my life and have been around a bit on the circuit. Yorkshire was the only club i am interested in and when I heard of their offer it didn't take me too long to decide."
Baines inherits a Yorkshire squad with some potential, and will be looking to improve this further by bringing in some new additions.
"I'll be on the phone during the next few days to see who is available. Expect to see some new players soon."
