Australia's Tour of India - 7 ODI's

we should take this opportunity and play all the newbies to see what they are capable of.

No way, Lalit Modi will let the heavens get destroyed before he passes up an opportunity to make money.

Why do you have to be cynical all the time? Do they play dead rubber games only in India? The whole ODI series in England felt dead. What has Lalit Modi got to do with it?

Modi cannot do anything about this series or any international series that India plays.

Cricket is run for the money, be it Lalit Modi or the ECB. The only reason they play these dead rubbers is because of the revenue they generate. It leads to player burnout and more injuries.

No other sport plays dead rubbers, at least that I know off, MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL etc

That's because cricket's an international sport. And even dead rubbers hold value, in the way of rankings.

People may have tickets and been waiting all year for their chance to go to a game comes around. Just because there's nothing to play for doesn't mean the series should stop.

I just think its the best way to reduce burnout and injuries. Way less cricket would be played and we would not have so many one sided and boring series.

Aussies do not win dead rubbers. But I am not confident of Indian bowling.

The batting sucked in last game but they will fire in Mumbai.

Until recently dead rubbers were our forte. Sydney was always the graveyard that dead horses are flogged.

In regard to dead rubbers, they're also about giving each city an equal share of internationals, to spread interest in the sport.

Not really. Based on recent performances, I would say Aus, SA, SL and Pakistan are all better ODI teams then India and it is between those four (mainly SA and Aus for the number one spot) Personally I would say India are down with the dregs of England and New Zealand :facepalm India are just too up and down to be real contenders for number one. They failed in the CT. They failed in the 20/20 World Cup and as far as I can see theire only ODI success of 2009 has been in the Compaq Cup and even in that they only beat SL once (in the other match they were totally thrashed, once again highlighting how hot and cold India are)

There is no denying they have the potential to be number 1, but then again so do teams like England and NZ. However, until they start putting some consistent performances together it seems to me that they will always be a "just about/there abouts" side.

Oh and India. Please pick Sreesanth. That guy actually is a legend, just for actually showing some agression and passion.

I agree with Aus and SA for sure, but SL and Pakistan. We have beat SL so many times now (both away and home) that its so embarassing. And even Pakistan, we have beaten them in ODI series at home and in the Kitply Cup that we played in Pakistan, we won all the matches but the final (to Pakistan). We lost the CT match to Pakistan but again, we didnt have Sehwag, Yuvraj and Zaheer (ok, keeping Zaheer out, we didnt have Sehwag and Yuvraj).

We have beaten Australia in Australia, Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, New Zealand in New Zealand, we have beaten England 5-0 at home (before those attacks came about), etc. And why did you add that '20/20 World Cup failure' when talking about ODI's? Desperation, eh (to prove your point)?

Lalit Modi? For him, its all about the IPL and T20 cricket. He doesnt even come into the picture for all these international games.

I wish we give Tyagi a shot in place of Munaf and bring back Ishant in place of Nehra. We atleast got to see the change it makes to our fielding. I am so fed up of our fielding unit. We really need to improve on that area. We need some kind of a baseball based coach like how Australia have Mike Young. Hope BCCI gives serious thought to that guy who has been applying for the post of the fielding coach ever since Robin Singh was hired.

Sachin shouldnt play this game. Even MSD can take a rest (although he wont).

When are people gonna stop criticizing him and get a life? :p

When is Lalit going to stop being such a douche? Therein lies your answer.

I like the IPL too, but Lalit is an absolute ******. Strategic time outs, renaming fours and sixes. Most importantly though, sooooooo many matches! He's thinking of two IPLs in one year as well! Two!

My dream is this- 5 tests in each series, 3 one dayers, 2 T20's. Screw the money hungry bastards. 5 test series are bloody magnificent. Yes its a throw back to the older days but there's nothing like a 5 test series. Think back to all the killer series between Aus and WI in the 70's and 80's. So few 5 test series these days, very sad.
