Post your IPL 2012 XI with respect to the following rules

Rules:
  • 4 overseas players only
  • At least one player from each team

My IPL XI in accordance to the rules

1. Virender Sehwag (DD)
2. Chris Gayle (RCB) - Foreign Player 1
3. Rahul Dravid (RR)
4. Suresh Raina (CSK)
5. Rohit Sharma (MI)
6. AB de Villiers (RCB) - Foreign Player 2
7. Rahul Sharma (PWI)
8. Parvinder Awana (KXIP)
9. Dale Steyn (DC) - Foreign Player 3
10. Sunil Narina (KKR) - Foreign Player 4
11. Umesh Yadav (DD)

Composition

Chennai Super Kings: 1 (Suresh Raina)
Deccan Chargers: 1 (Dale Steyn)
Delhi Daredevils: 2 (Virender Sehwag, Umesh Yadav)
Kings XI Punjab: 1 (Parvinder Awana)
Kolkata Knight Riders: 1 (Sunil Narina)
Mumbai Indians: 1 (Rohit Sharma)
Pune Warriors India: 1 (Rahul Sharma)
Rajasthan Royals: 1 (Rahul Dravid)
Royal Challengers Bangalore: 2 (Chirs Gayle, AB de Villiers)
Total: 11 players

Lasith Malinga misses out as I rate Steyn very highly, and bringing Steyn in would mean that there were 5 overseas players, so unfortunately Malinga misses out. Rahul Sharma stands nowhere near the best of IPL 2012 but he seemed to be the only choice I had from PWI to fit into my team's balance.

Dhawan, Rahane and Gambhir miss out as Gayle and Sehwag have done exceptionally well. Sehwag scored 495 runs, little 50 short than Dhawan, Rahane and Gambhir but his SR gives him the edge above the two. And regarding Gayle, well he is an automatic choice.

Rahul Dravid at #3 just to provide some solidity in the middle. Although he has opened for RR throughout the season, I feel that he will do really well at #3. He can be very much similar to the role Jacques Kallis had in the KKR this year.

My IPL XI 2012

1. Virender Sehwag (DD)
2. Chris Gayle (RCB) - Foreign Player 1
3. Gautam Gambhir (Kkr)
4. Rohit Sharma (MI)
5. AB de Villiers (RCB) - Foreign Player 2
6. Robin Uthappa (PWI)
7. MS. Dhoni (CSK)
8. Sunil Narina (KKR) - Foreign Player 3
9. Dale Steyn (DC) - Foreign Player 4
10 . Ajit chandila (RR)
11. Parvinder Awana (KXIP)

Your XI is quite similar to mine but you haven't included any player from RR.

Actually even though RR did not perform too badly, it's little difficult to choose a player. Rahane is one solid candidate, but there are several other openers who have performed better than him. Another guy is Shane Watson, but I don't he will find a place in anyone's team due to 4 overseas players' restriction.
These factors make me feel that Dravid is the best possible option.

My BEST IPL 11 :
1. MANDEEP SINGH (KXIP)
2. AJINKYA RAHANE (RR)
3. GAUTAM GAMBHIR (KKR)
4. AB DEVILLIERS (RCB) ( O )
5. ROBIN UTHAPPA (PWI)
6. MS DHONI (CSK)
7. IRFAN PATHAN (DD)
8. DALE STEYN (DC) ( O )
9. SUNIL NARINE (KKR) ( O )
10.LASITH MALINGA (MI) ( O )
11.PRAGYAN OJHA (MI)

STEYN ,MALINGA , NARINE , OJHA , PATHAN are the 5 bowlers who can bowl 4 overs each.
Should have had MORNE ahead of STEYN. Since DC have no good INDIAN players so opted for STEYN
and from DD PATHAN acts as an ALL ROUNDER who can bat and bowl.. since only 4 overseas players so no choice for WATSON , KALLIS , ALBIE.
among the spin bowling NARINE was excellent so he deserved a place. An INDIAN spinner choice would go to PRAGYAN OJHA.. he bowled well since HARBHAJAN was captain of MI he didn`t use OJHA for PLAY OFFS and went ahead for KULKARNI.
A good wicket keeping INDIAN batsman and a slog hitter at death.. it`s MSD.

This could be the best IPL team.:):yes

A team that does not have Gayle could be the best IPL team?:rolleyes

This would be my IPL 2012 XI:

Gautam Gambhir (c)
Faf Du Plessis
Ajinkya Rahane
Mandeep Singh
Robin Uthappa (wk)
Rohit Sharma
Dwayne Bravo
Sunil Narine
Umesh Yadav
Parvinder Awana
Morne Morkel

Tempted to go with Gayle, but for a right-left combination and for the fact that Faf's performance was more of a surprise than Gayle, I picked Faf. Narine and Morkel are sure shot picks, so I needed an allrounder and it was between Bravo and Kallis and I gave it to Bravo (based on Cricinfo's Most runs and Most wickets stats).

This would be my IPL 2012 XI:

Chris Gayle
Ajinkya Rahane
Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir (c)
Shikhar Dhawan
Rohit Sharma
MS Dhoni (Just to fill in the CSK and wicket keeper's slot)
Steven Smith
Sunil Narine
Morne Morkel
Parvinder Awana

You have 12 players in your XI. Your team looks batting heavy, and pretty light on bowling.
