I can't believe people are thwacking Bumrah! It's a joke!
We are not thwacking Bumrah. You`ve got to see how to win games. We are not going to win many games if we do not get 5 wickets by the 40th over. Bumrah in the middle overs does not offer a wicket taking option. His utility is the 5 overs he gives at the death. As Sai said, we need someone who can bowl wicket-taking balls even when the batsmen are not looking to attack. Bumrah would be my first pick in T20s but not so straightforward in ODIs.
Look at our attack. If Bhuvi amd Umesh do not get wickets in the first 10 overs, we do not have anyone to do that in the middle overs. Bumrah and Jadeja are both defensive bowlers and Pandya is not a regular bowler at all. We cannot play with so many defensive bowling options. Shami needs to get a look in. Also, we missed a trick by not picking Kuldeep Yadav in the squad.
In short, you cannot pick players who will be valuable in any single phase of the game. I would rather pick a side which has the best shot at making the end overs irrelevant. Against this SL attack, we should`ve scored 350. The phase where Yuvraj was new to the crease was really slow for us. Between the 30th and 35th overs, we slowed down a bit too much.
