Kaluwitharana and Chandana score 50's as Sri Lanka pass 400

Sri Lanka were eventually all out for 401 as the English seamers ran through the tail after earlier steady work by the spinners.
Kaluwitharana blasted a quickfire 58, hooking Malcolm for a huge six, then slog sweeping Salisbury for another, before attempting a slog too many and being caught at deep midwicket off the persevering Croft.
Dharmasena followed in the same over, top edging a sweep and being caught by slip Bicknell as he ran to a leg slip position to take a good catch.
Chandana added a composed 54, and Vaas a handy 28 leaving Sri Lanka in a strong position with about 13 minutes left until Lunch on Day 2.
The last 3 batsmen all fell to catches by the short cover fielder, as driving became dangerous on a slowing pitch.
Stephenson showed his allround value with a couple of wickets with his steady medium pace, but now has an important role with the bat as England seek to bat themselves back into the game.
The Sri Lankan spinners are expected to do a lot of work on a pitch that has already turned and offered some variable bounce.
