I agree that raina looks very weak in these conditions. The best they can do is change the batting order. Badrinath and anirudh should be promoted up the order. Raina should be finisher.

I agree with this. Push Raina down and have Badrinath bat at No.3. He is better equipped to deal with the short deliveries. Raina should bat when the slower bowlers come on or when the ball gets older. Until Raina sorts his short ball weakness, he is a gross misfit at No.3 and will continue to blow hot and cold.

Sorry about the late-ish comments, but I just watched the match...

Cant understand why Hayden is flopping so badly.

How about he's 40, hasn't played in 4 months and retired from top level stuff almost 2 years ago?? And that was after struggling badly for most of 2008.

I liked How's attacking intent in the early part of the game; he wasn't going to die wondering about too many edges through an empty slip cordon.

Yep I liked this too.

Bevan Griggs -32 Wicket keeper batsmen, decent enough keeper but not much chop with the bat in 20/20 cricket. He will have a point to prove after being dropped from the CD contract list last month though.

Kieran Noema-Barnett -23 Pretty average cricketer really, he can give the ball a whack and he's got fairly decent medium pace but as a whole I've never really rated him.

Spot on mate. Griggs was awful with the bat, and Noema-Barnett hype is a lot hot air really. He'll have a good day every 5 and keep a place based on that probably. Andrew Symonds managed that kind of contribution for at least 5 years at the start of his ODI career, so it's not all bad I guess. :p

Bevan Griggs is mud with the bat in all formats (especially OD and T20), I'm not sure why they don't use Weston in the shorter forms of the game, when a specialist keeper isn't as important.

The only reason Kieran Noema-Barnett is playing is because if it wasn't for him and Taylor, CD wouldn't be there, and Auckland would.
Pretty much he played his 1 in 20 knock in the HRV cup final.

I still think Northern Districts would have been even better than Auckland :p

Southee and Vettori would lead a pretty mean bowling attack, and we have some good attacking batsmen too. Was last season the season Dilshan played for us? He would be handy.

ND didn't even make it to the final. :facepalm

At least Auckland can say, if it wasn't for Taylor who isn't even playing for CD at the CL, they would of gone.
Hence as Taylor's not playing for CD, Auckland should have just gone.

We had Styris, Vincent, Guptill, Hopkins, Mills, Tuffey, de Grandhomme, etc.

Also if we'd gone, de Grandhomme would have walked away with an IPL contract. ;)

ND were knocked out by Taylor as well in a rain hit match. We were on target to win, but then Taylor comes and smacks 28 off 12 balls to win with 3 balls remaining. If we had won that match we would have been tied on points with CD, Auckland, and Otago and we would have had the greatest NRR.

Oh yeah, that was the game where he went crazy.
The Auckland vs Otago match was being televised, and they had cameras at the other games.

I'd still give Auckland the best chance out of all the NZ DOM teams.
My view my show the slightest hint bit of bias.

ND just didn't do it for me, they didn't have any genuine hitters outside Dilshan. (and Southee)
Devcich and McGlashan are both aggressive players, but Vettori, Flynn, Marshall, Watling all just aren't T20 batsmen for me, they're all workers of the ball.

I'd say Marshall and Parlane both could hit the ball hard. You forgot Williamson as well :p

And we do have the best bowlers in the country I'd say.

Southee, Arnel, Boult, Aldridge, Scott and Vettori (omit one) would make a mean bowling lineup.

Williamson hardly even played T20 matches last season, IIRC.
From the little I've seen of him, he looks to be more of a worker of the ball as well.

In terms of T20, we had Tuffey, Mills, Bates, Hira, and Styris. (Mills didn't actually play last season)
This season we've lost Styris, but we've gained Adams.

Without Vettori, your attack would just be average.
Boult hasn't really lit the world alight in domestic cricket. Aldridge and Scott are good solid domestic players, but really just cancel out Bates and Hira.
Therefore without Vettori our attack would be better, but with Vettori your attack's better, but our batting would be ahead of yours.

Too bad you all lost! Just face it, CD's there and your teams aren't. Better luck next season ;)

Two Aucklanders... I had no choice but to ruin it :p

-D-S-B- added 3 Minutes and 22 Seconds later...

I was thinking about bringing Otago into the discussion, but I'd probably get laughed out of here :laugh
