4th Test: England v Australia at Leeds

Hussey has an exceptional FC record, North has a decent FC record. I'd expect Hussey to perform far better.

I see, you're basing this on stats. I'm sure the selectors have seen enough of both of them to make a fair choice. This has been said a million times but FC success doesn't guarantee test success. I think your being way to harsh on North btw, this is only his second series.

But we haven't even seen Hussey in tests, how can you write him off like that. At least give him a fair go, if he fails then go North.

Where did I write him off?

I'm just saying North has had a very good start to his test career. If anybody needs a chance it's him.

I agree he should be given a chance and a run, he's scored runs, but I just have my doubts about him that's all. I'm not convinced he's good enough.

Look at Clarke. He average in the 30s when he was picked in 2005 and now he might be out of the 4th test match in 2009 and England are going to win..... Selectors can see potential, not just stats.

I think North has the temperament for Test cricket. Doesn't look fussed, angry, and was giving Ponting tips. Looks good to me. And Temperament is just as important as skill in Test cricket.

But then you wonder if England had picked a bowler who backed his potential up with stats ie wickets, then maybe we'd have won the 3rd Test. Cricket is mainly about stats, you know runs, wickets etc so having someone who averages poorly with bat or ball can't live forever off potential. At some point they have to deliver

There were talks of North becoming Australian captain in the newspaper today, KP. :laugh

Wow, talk about jumping the gun. 3 good innings on flattish decks against below average bowling and he's being talked up as the next skipper. Phillip Hughes come to mind? Was the future Bradman about 3 weeks ago, now he's been replaced by Shane Watson. I expect North to have a similar fall from grace. I'll be proven wrong though, my track record's not been great in this series so far.

Hehe, I knew that would spark you up.

Thought of you as soon as I saw the headline... :laugh

Agree, that is the main reason I was calling for him to be picked over David Hussey. He has the temperament and isn't one to throw his wicket away something that is important given how many players we have throwing their wicket away these days. David Hussey had an average season by his standards and numerous times he was getting out after scoring 50.

Just out of curiosity what does Damien Martyn get up to? I haven't heard from him since he quit half way through the ashes couple of years ago
