6th Match: India v Pakistan (Group A)

It was a good game to be sure. I noticed that some of you thought the Dravid knock was slow or patchy...but the thing is that you need someone to anchor the innings and being a Pakistani fan, I knew with India needing 70 odd to win and a tailender at the crease, I'd rather have Yusuf Pathan than Dravid at the crease. Dravid started off patchy but slowly grew in coonfidence and technically correct player or not, once set, you can expect him to make 70 odd in the las 10. That he did not do it today does not make him a bad player or the knock irrelevant or irresponsible. It was a good knock but someone needed to stay with him but no on did. For me, the danger men were Sachin, Dravid and Gambhir, two of which we got out via run-outs! :) That was a good piece of fortune!

Is it me or has Gul only bcome a T20 bowler, keeping in mind the recent test series that he played (even the one before the T20 WC) and the ODIs after the WC.

India lost another one :D

Will have to beat Aussie and Windies for any chance is semis.

^Yes that Dravid knock was needed - it might have been a little patchy but sometimes you need those type of innings to keep an innings together. Aussie fans have been complaining black and blue about Michael Clarke wasting balls and scoring too slowly but when he doesn't play, oh look we are 7/170 against the supposed easy beat Windies. We needed someone to soak up some deliveries.

But back to this game, when Raina and Dravid were going India were on top and should have won from there. They needed only 98 from 91 balls the ball before Raina got out.

Its essential for a side to have at least one player who can anchor the innings and build formidable partnerships throughout. In my opinion Dravid played a very sensible, fairly paced knock. If it would not have been Dravid playing through the middle overs we would have witnessed a completely different Indian batting scorecard with India bowled out fairly earier than 44 odd overs. On the other hand, Yousuf is the trump card for Pakistan in batting. He may not be as blazing as someone like Imran Nazir but he paces his innings superbly and sensibly which helps form good partnerships hence a good score on the board for the team. I think Dravid played more than what his role was but there was really no one for support.

Completely true, and nice that a Pakistani fan agrees on that! A well set and technically sound batsman like Dravid could have easily scored those runs if he had partners at the other end. T20 is not about the boom hitting. Its about having the skill and technique to score as many off a single ball as possible. You dont need 6 sixes an over. All you need is 10-12 runs (may be 14 runs) an over which consists of a few singles, few two's and a few boundaries. Can be accomplished without aerial shots.

Our batting is poor. Except Gambhir, Raina and Dravid no one batted well. Well played by Pakistan and they deserved the win. Our middle order completely depends on Dhoni, Raina & Kohli. That shows how weak our batting is.

Man..just disappointed. At least the fact that our bowling is so **** will come into the spotlight now and won't be ignored behind Sachin's century or Bhajji's magical bowling, now I expect BCCI to give Ishant a break to develop more and bring Irfan or Sreesanth back. Nehra did good.

Our batting..man, LUCK just wasn't on our side. Holy ****, Tendulkar got out but that AGRESSIVE BAD-ASS aura Gambhir was playing with reassured the fans in less than a minute. I don't think Gambhir gave a rats *** Tendu got out. I looked at his face today, he was freakin' FURIOUS as he faced every ball, as he missed them or hit them for boundaries, total confidence, freakin' opened the innings and was ripping the feared Paki bowling apart.
What I just can't understand is his lethargy that got him run out. And he gets pissed even more and lashes out towards a fan way back to the pavilion. I think his girlfriend dumped him today or something....though I knew Dravid would play the anchor today after Tendu's early departure, and he did. Raina, he's another wonder. We looked so comfortable with Raina and Dravid building that partnership but **** happens. STILL, we had Yusuf. He didn't need to hit, he just needed to play safe and rotate the damned strike and chew bubble gum until the damned PP, Dravid would have helped him score. But no, its asking too much of this cool Pathan, his brother better replace him soon.

Overall, a fantastic match though..like all Ind/Pak matches are. There's some very faint hope of India somehow defeating Aus and beating W.I. with a good run rate but I wouldn't count on it. India needs to fix its bowling after coming back home. And well played Pakis, you guys deserve the win.

:laugh:laugh Dravid got Gambhir out at at the end Bhajji got Dravid out

Most people knew coming into this tournament that the Indian bowlers would struggle, didn't think they'd be that bad during the middle over's though. Mishra really should come into the team, he bowled really well against New Zealand in the warm-up game.

:laugh

I am glad I did not waste my time watching this game after Gauti got out.

;)
