TT Lions vs. Lucian Magma
Played at Lucian Magma CG
30/09/2005
TT Lions: 149 a/o, 46.2 overs [Delop 56, Dennis 21, Storey 3/22, Aldridge 2/23]
Lucian Magma: 151/9, 46.3 overs [Clivers 52, Farley 28, Atkinson 4/13, Gamble 3/52]
This match was the second ever under Zorax's management. After a crusing win in the first game, this one was expected to be challenging, as Lucian Magma were on the top of the table at the time. And boy, it turned out to be a real cracker.
It was an cold September day, with little sunshine. The pitch was covered in grass, you almost felt you were in New Zealand. Batting was definately going to be difficult with sharp bounce and movement expected, and fielding extremely difficult with the extreme cold freezing the fielders' fingers off. Catching qould be difficult, and it all difficult conditions to play in.
After winning the toss, Arthur Dennis elected to bat first. Bad choice. After a steady start, Cox ended up chopping a sharp lifter from paceman Dwight Storey for 3. Delop and Greenwood put up some resistance, with Delop playing a few delightful shots, until spinner Aldridge, who was tossed the new ball for some reason, got Greenwood plum in front for 10. 43/2 wasn't the best of starts, but definately not the worst. However, the game slumped into a passage of ridiculously slow play, Fallon eating up 57 balls and getting only one boundary for his 12 before being bowled by swing bowler Speare. Delop battled on and got a fine fifty, but fell quickly after to fast bowler Dexter Gall. Dennis played a few shots, but got a vicious bouncer in the next over from Howard Westlake and trod back onto his stumps for 21. Crouch was runout for 0 quickly after, and Leonard edged one to slip next ball to leave the Lions stumbling at 129/7! The tail tried there best, but the Lions were mustered out for 149, failing to bat the full 50 overs.
However, there were more twists left in the plot. Farely and Garrick walked out of the pavillion first up, with Atkinson and Gamble to share the new ball. Gamble struck gold in his first over, getting Garrick to knick a nasty lifter to Delop at gully for a duck. Farley went right after the bowling, and with Clivers put up a fine 41 run partnership. But Atkinson had a trick up his sleeve, and a beautiful slower ball trapped Farley plumb in his crease. Runak struck yet again the next ball, bowling Delgado through the gate to leave Lucian Magma at 51/3. Pajwani fell in Atkinsons next over to a blinder from 'Charlo' Griffin, and the Lions were in with a sniff with Lucian Magma at 60/4.
Clivers chose the right time to unleash his strokes, and with Halliday put up a steady but crucial 45 runs. The match was slipping from the Lions reach. That is, until Mike Leonard struck, finding the edge off Clivers bat with a beautiful outswinger. Halliday fell in the next over, slicing Drayton into the safe hands of Billy Greenwood, and the Lions had roared back, the two strikes setting Lucian Magma back to 109/6. 41 runs to win, 4 wickets in hand. Still anyone's game.
Westlake decided it was time to take matters into his own hands, and while Speare found the top edge off a Gamble bouncer, he struck two crucial and possibly match-winning boundaries. Atkinson returned, and shattered Storey's stumps, leaving Lucian Magma at 146/9. 4 runs to win, 1 wicket in hand. Who would get it? Chris Gamble had the ball, it was all up to him. He conceded a legbye first up to Westlake, leaving number 11 Aldridge exposed to the fiery Chris Gamble with 3 to win.
Gamble runs in the bowl, Aldridge tapping his bat...Gamble release, Aldridge swings, the ball is sliding down leg, Aldridge gets some bat, and away to the fine leg fence for four!! A heart wrenching loss for the TT Lions, but a fantastic win for Lucian Magma! It took them 46.3 overs to get the targer, exactly one ball more than the entire TT Lions innings. A great match, fought right dwon to the end, this will go down in the history books as a TT Lions Classic.

He was signed for a whopping 820K, he'd better be worth it...George Giddings

LH Upper middle order batsman
Giddings has just recently join the club, and already has a pivitol role in the team. A skilled and experienced hard-hitting batsman, his inclusion is expected to strengthen a frail-looking batting lineup.

In the meanwhile, I'd like you all to welcome a new member of the Lions...
