Shh...you'll ruin the review
Anyways, here it is:
Good bowling overall and a fine knock by Spearitt continued the Lion's unbeaten streak by securing a comfortable 6 wicket win.
Much of the crowd were suprised to see Arthur Dennis walk out for the coin toss, and were even more suprised to here the starting XI. Tuckett, Folkes, Gallagher, Finlayson and Shipp had all been rested for this game, which indicated that this was nothing more than a warmup for the Lions. Douglas Whing -a more than capable bowler- was asked to take the new ball with comeback man Runako Atkinson. Runak bowled an excellent line throught and jagged the ball sharply on this grassy wicket to pick up two early wickets - getting Richard Sumner dragging on and Reon Thelwell bowld straight through the gate with a peach of an inswinger. He also returned to york out the stubborn number 8 Winn, capping off a pretty good comeback. Whing was copped some stick early in his spell, but picked up three wickets towards the end of the innings with some fine reverse swing bowling and good changes of pace -the highlight being when he had Ross way too early into his shot with a superb slower ball. He was practically through with the shot before he lobbed it to Rudi at midwicket! Newby and Rudi bowled with good control on this helpful wicket, and Eli impressed again despite getting some stick from Shaka. Crouch wasn't given a bowl suprisingly, and Arthur Dennis captained brilliantly on comeback.
Chasing 177 to win, the Lions got off to a flier with 11 of the first over, before Abdeen failed yet again knicking to slip for 7. He might be pushed down the order after this. Craig Bunn got a golden on what might be his last chance in the club, although in all fairness, it was a good ball and a bad decision as he did not knick it but just clipped the pad with the bat. Poor bloke. At 20/2, things were looking a little unsteady, but Dennis, on comeback, and Spearitt steadied the ship. Dennis was a bit slow to start with, but opened up with 3 boundaries off Winn. He fell to a brilliant return catch off the same bowler's next over, just as he was looking dangerous. Butcher clubbed two boundaries in the same over off spinner Walken before missing a straight ball from Winn, but Crouch and Spearitt guided the team home safely without any hiccups. Crouch was stroking the ball well but had no intensity in his innings, gathering 37 runs with only a single boundary, while Spearitt never looked troubled. A nice warmup for the team, should get the team ready for the PC Championship when it resumes.
Ratings:
Quite low considering the weakend side, but good enough. Spearitt fully deserving of his MOTM award.
Attendance:
208K in the bank, although I think it should have been more.
