Question for Indian fans

Would you pick Dhoni in a India All-time test XI these days. Or are you still waiting to see how his career progresses?

India All-time XI

I just had a thought, looking at Dravid heroics in England recently opening the batting, i think serious future consideration should be taken towards him being the opener in the India ATXI.

Gavaskar
Dravid
Vengsarkar
Tendulkar
Hazare/Laxman
Viswanath
Engineer
Kapil Dev
Khan
Srinath
Gupte

Note:

- Prasnna would come in for Khan or Srinath for a test in India
- Mankad would come in for Hazare/Laxman " " " " India.

I know the "rules" are top eight, but I'll do a Zimbabwe XI anyway

Zimbabwe

Grant Flower : 3457 runs @ 29.55 & 25 wkts @ 61.48
Murray Goodwin : 1414 runs @ 42.85
Andy Flower : 4794 runs @ 51.55
David Houghton (c) : 1464 runs @ 43.06
Brendan Taylor (wk) : 613 runs @ 26.65
Douglas Marillier : 185 runs @ 30.83 & 11 wkts @ 29.27
Guy Whittall : 2207 runs @ 29.43 & 51 wkts @ 40.94
Heath Streak : 1990 runs @ 22.36 & 216 wkts @ 28.14
Paul Strang : 839 runs @ 27.06 & 70 wkts @ 36.03
Bryan Strang : 465 runs @ 12.92 & 56 wkts @ 39.34
Henry Olonga : 184 runs @ 5.41 & 68 wkts @ 38.53

Taylor is a much better batsman than his current average, although he could keep wicket and leave Taibu out to adapt the side. I've had a few difficult decisions to make including ones to leave out eg Price. I've gone with Paul Strang over Price because of his capable batting and more than useful spin bowling compensating any gain Price may offer in spin. Bryan Strang is in for being left-arm so offering variety in the attack.

I was tempted to include one or more of Mawoyo, Jarvis or Vitori but it is early in their careers. A few special mentions and stats for excluded players who I might easily have included, not a comprehensive list and mostly bowling options/alternatives

Sean Ervine : 261 runs @ 32.63 & 9 wkts @ 43.11
Neil Johnson : 532 runs @ 24.18 & 15 wkts @ 39.60
Tatenda Taibu (wk) : 1457 runs @ 31.00
Eddo Brandes : 121 runs @ 10.08 & 26 wkts @ 36.58
Ray Price : 238 runs @ 8.81 & 75 wkts @ 35.11

Shame Flower, Goodwin and Ervine aren't in the current side, they could add some steel and help through transition.

you can't possibly have Mohammed Asif in an ALL TIME XI, or Aamir Sohail for that matter.

hmmm thats my choice as I always felt that Aamir Sohail was at par with Saeed Anwar in his hay days. As far as Asif is concerned, I dont think that his position is questionable, since I haven't seen such a superb talent at a young age.

Well if you are basing it on players you have seen than fair enough.

Yup Ofcourse, with all due respect to ex-cricketers, I cant comment on them until or unless I can see their batting/bowling
