A strong bowling and an equally dominating batting performance gives Pakistan a victory in the 3rd match of the 7 match Akram Tendular Trophy, leveling the series 1-1.
The crowd today at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad was as energetic as the last game, as Pakistani fans were desparate for a victory in the series and Indian fans wanted a lead in the series. The Pakistani fans were also excited for the fact that Asad Raza was selected for playing today after coming out of his break and making himself available for selection. With the Indian captain Mahendra Bahubali taking a rest today, Sod Anderson walked to the pitch with Shahid Younus for the toss. The toss was won by Pakistan and with the dew factor in mind, he decided to field first.
India, more specifically Rohit Sharma, went all guns blazing right from the word go, with Sod Anderson supporting him from the other end. And as it looked like Rohit and Sod are gonna hit another huge partnership just like the last match, Sod got dismissed for 12 in the 9th over with 54 on the board.
The new man Kohli looked bothered the moment he came to the crease. And after strugging for 16 balls, he got out caught for a mere 5. Now India were looking a little bit under pressure.
Rohit steadied himself and looked to stabilize the innings along with the new batter Appu Kiran. But the bowling had been tightened as they both found themselves under the pump with the bowlers not giving them any chance to ease up and look for boundaries. Appu Kiran was struggling to even look for singles. And what seemed to be a very long 56 balls, Rohit Sharma couldn't bear it and played a lousy shot to promptly get caught for 58 from the bowling of Hasan Ali. Now Ali Bubere was in the crease with Appu. Ali was the best performer for India this series just behind Rohit, so Pakistan knew better than to ease up. They kept it as tight as it gets, and both the batter were struggling to even score singles let alone look for boundaries. The run rate dropped down to 4.5, which was 6 at one point. But Appu and Ali kept resisting and supported each other to form this crucial partnership India needed. But after painstakingly playing out 11 overs for 40 runs, the partnership was broken after Appu got himself dismissed for 38 of 70. He only scored 1 boundary his entire knock, and the frustrated Indian crowd started booing him as he went back to the pavilion. A number of Pakistani fans were seen giving a standing applause to the batter, as if thanking him for his struggling batting display.
Tarak Sai Pratik joined Ali, and tried to get the rate up. He played some fancy shots and ran quickly between the wickets to make sure he was scoring run a ball. Ali too tried to join the party and together they put up a run a ball 45 before Tarak was dismissed for 26. Now at the 41th over, India were 188/5 and they needed to score some quick runs to get a respectable total above 250. But the pitch was siding with the bowlers and they made sure the Indian batters didn't get to hit any boundaries. But still Ali and Jadeja, the new batter, pounced at every opportunity they were delivered. Shaheen Afridi was poor with his line at the end overs as he was smashed by Ali and Jadeja, but the rest bowled pretty well and restricted them as much as possible. In the end, Ali and Jadeja took India to a respectable total of 259, with Ali unbeated on 76. He delivered for his team yet again in this series. Among the bowlers; Naman, Hafeez and Nawaz were all economical with conceding just 4 runs an over and taking one wicket each. Shahid Younus yet again was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/53 and doing the captains job in the best way. Shaheen and Hasan Ali both didn't do good with the ball today, conceding runs without picking any wickets. So India got off with an okayish total. But was it enough? 260 was not a huge total, and with the dew factor at play it was a pretty chasable one. So the bowlers had a hard job in their hands.
Pakistan's opening pair, Ryder and Umair, gave them a solid start. Umair was the aggressor looking boundaries from the get go and Ryder supported him with playing sensible cricket. They both added 93 in 18 overs before Umair got out caught from the bowling of Jadeja for 49, only one shy of his 50. He headed back to the pavilion a bit disappointed as the new batter came in. The new batter was Asad Raza.
He was welcomed with a huge cheer as he walked to the crease. The majority of the Pakistan supporters went wild as he took his guard. A lot of the fans were waiting for this exact moment. After all, Asad Raza was their favorite player who they were desparate to see play even after all the drama. Asad had come back from his break for the team, determimed to push his team forward. And now here he was, and it couldn't be more iconic for them. It was a pretty tense atmosphere despite the excitement, as Jadeja started his runup to bowl to him. The Pakistani fans were holding their breath, and suddenly, the unthinkable happened.
Jadeja bowled full and straight, and Asad, without any hesitation, lofted it straight over the bowlers head. It was perfect. The timing, the execution, everything was to perfection. The fans erupted as it seemed to travel the distance. Asad Raza seemed to announced his comeback in style. It was all too good for Pakistan.
Then the catch was taken.
No one seemed to notice Manish Reddy standing at long on. He ran towards the ball and simply took the catch just inside the boundary. It wasn't simple, but he made it look too easy for anyone to understand. The Pakistani crowd went instantly silent. They could not believe what they had just seen. It didn't fit their equation at all. Everything was perfect. How did this happen? This can't be it. It just can't be. The fans couldn't believe themselves, or rather they refused to. All of that cheer, all of that hype had instantly went down the drain. Asad himself found it hard to comprehend for a few moment. He stood still for a few seconds in disbelief before finally realizing what had happened, picked his bat, and walked towards the pavilion. The crowd erupted. But this time it was the Indian fans who were cheering. They were going as wild as Pakistan were a few moments ago. Asad Raza had just got out for a golden duck, and Jadeja was now on a hattrick. Some Indian fans gave out a cruel standing ovation to Asad Raza, just like Pakistani fans did with Appu Kiran, as he walked back to the pavilion. The Pakistani fans were silent, still in disbelief.
Pakistan steadied their ship and went on to bat more sensibly. Talha Hayat gave good support to Jack Ryder, who was not going for any risk whatsoever and playing defensively. Talha soon got out bowled by Nilay Shah for 26, and Pakistan were 131/3 in 27 overs. The asking rate was climbing so they needed to get the runs whilst playing carefully. The next few overs were seen off cautiously by Pakistan, as India started to put as much pressure as they can. Finally Hafeez, the best performer in the last 2 matches for Pakistan, finally started to get his game up and started to look for boundaries. Jack Ryder kept playing cautiously as Hafeez picked up the runs. They put up 65 for the 4th wicket stand before Hafeez got done by an absolute beauty from Manish Reddy for 44. The asking rate now was just under 6 an over with 11 overs to go. With wickets in hand, the game seemed to be going Pakistan's way but there was no telling when India would come with a dramatic comeback. Soon after, Ahmed Leo got out for 2, continuing his string of poor form through the series. Now things were getting interesting.
But as Mohammad Nawaz joined the still cautious Jack Ryder, Jack decided to step up his game. He played some wonderful shots to ease of the pressure and bring the rate down. Nawaz too joined him a bit later and thy both started picking boundaries from Manish, Nilay and Kumar. Both were bowling considerably well but they weren't enough to stop Jack and Nawaz. Both smashed the required 56 of just 6 overs, winning the game for Pakistan by 5 wickets. Jack Ryder was unbeated on 93 of 133, an overall defensive but extremely crucial knock. Among the Indian bowlers, Jadeja was clinical; picking 2 for 37 of just 10 overs. The pacers were all over the place, with Manish Reddy getting 2/48 in 7, Nilay Shah 1/69 in 10, and Kumar going for 50 in 7.3 without any wickets.
Overall, it was a very good performance from Pakistan. They bowlers were instrumental in restricting India for 259, and the batters were calculative and cautious who made sure they chased down the total without any difficulty at the end. They definitely learned from their mistakes from the last match, and the Indians couldn't catch up with them today. Jack Ryder was awarded the man of the match for his crucial 93.
(Note: Sorry for coming out late this time. I suddenly got myself caught up in a sordid business with multiple people spreading rumors about me implying that I am a feline with mailcious intention. What an idiotic affair. It's hard to believe that I'm actually saying this, but to those who are confused, I am not a cat. And nor do I resemble one. Anything indicating such is purely bullshit. I hope you have a nice day, thank you.
