Ashes Cricket 2013 General Discussion

Q - Will the Shot animation be better in AC13 than previous games? Some shots didn't looked realistic.
A - We completely rebuild the batting and bowling system along with new features like Live pitch, field placement making the AC13 most realistic game.

:facepalm

The question that stuck out for me was the LBW appeals one - apparently now the umpires will get it wrong by design? But presumably that's before their DLC patch to add in DRS. I thought they were insistent that their umpires could make the right call all the time.

It's whatever you want it to be....

I'd like a game with DRS and umpires that never get it wrong, just to see how many people waste their reviews. Officially of course.

I should add, that it is the right decision - umpires should get it wrong regardless of DRS - it's how cricket is. I just hate how we previously got bullshitted around with that line about always accurate umpires.

PS3 going in for FIRST submission

I remember Ross or Mike saying that games very rarely pass first time therefore i'm not holding out for a July release.

You have to get them first time across all platforms, that's the issue.

Okay so credit where a little bit is due, there is a video out this week. What is clear from it though is there is a lot of pressure. The guy looks like shite and in his answers he is trying to cover up answers to reasonable questions. Here are my highlights

1) Have you changed the runout mechanic? Yes, we added new animations but made it automated. Overall, it'll be more interesting now because you don't actually do anything but it looks less retarded.

2) Staying "Official Ashes 2013 Cricket Game" about 5 times unnecessarily.

3) Saying they were doing gameplay tweaking on the PC version. Surely the gameplay is the same on all versions, and the other two have already been submitted?

On the platforms thing, the whole point of using the Unity engine is because it has lots of portability (being designed for mobile games will do that) - yet Ashes is only going to be on Wii U as an extra platform over Big Ant - and even then they've not mentioned it in ages.

July = pipedream... I see Apology V2.0 in the works...

There was a runout mechanic in the old games? All I remember was the annoyance at the fact it wouldn't just stay on the end you select, you have to keep holding the stick in the direction for them to decide to throw to a different end. Every other part was automatic.

Though the main issue was the fielders took so damn long to figure out they weren't a bus and decide to pick the ball up and throw it!

BINGO! I was waiting for someone to see this - development is on the PC and ported to the other platforms... therefore you can fix what you've already submitted.... hmmmm... what does that mean?

Yes, being able to run on the lowest common denominator (platform) enables portability.... portability of a mobile app.
