Ashes Cricket 2013 General Discussion

This makes for interesting reading, a discussion on the Unity forums about the game and their engine being blamed. A few of the devs even go into some basic debugging - Ashes Cricket 2013 cancelled AFTER realease, developer blames Unity for failure

well they have moved on to decode and debug mikeF and trickies:lol

if anyone does i guess unity should be the first to sue these guys for spoiling their brand name.

Quote from unity forum SpaceFrog"They used 4.3.0F4 i found out in my analysis of the released game. Considering this project has gone through 2 yrs, it makes it even more dubios as they seemed to have switched engines during development. A thing no sane developer would ever do..

I very much believe that trickstar outsourced development to some el-cheapo shop or freelance developers...
Another possibility is that there might have been some kind of developers exodus somewhen during the project, leaving trickstar with a pile of unfinished assets and codes, which they tried to hand over to another team..
But thats all pure speculation of course"

I can confirm unity 4.3.0f4 is a very recent release hardly a few months.

Also got it from the thread that reliance entertainment has rights for the ic10 engine from the codies highly possible they may have plans for a cricket game in pipeline probably as an ipl tieup or something.

I wonder what will be Mike doing these days..
Anyway, Mike has not only drowned himself but also has created problems for 505 games, Big ant, CA, ECB and the ashes name...
I wonder what will be doing these days and how he is facing people ?..

That video was the first one that has made me properly angry about this whole thing. I hate the despairing shrieking from the crowd, and one thinks that Nicholas and Slater were chosen as commentators to maximize the hate.

I hope the public humiliation of Fagan is long and varied, and I hope people closer to him have maybe heard about what he has shit out and see these videos for themselves

was slowly going through those debugging screen shots, the more i see it the more i cant believe its from the same developers that gave 2 complete games in ac09 and ic10 .it looks very amateurish, basically lots of memory leaks due total lack of optimization of game assets and script errors, mainly with gui, also explains the lack of tv overlay promised.:noway

----------

That link isn't working for me. Anyone else having problems?
My understanding was that they switched engines to try and sort the console build memory leaks.

its working for me,nope dont think so cause the memory leak is to large even by pc standards, dont see them optimising for 512mb xbox360:facepalm

its very hard to cause memory leaks on pc just with oversized assets ,only a heavily graphically modded skyrim can achieve that too only on an 32 bit os due 3 gb memory limit.

Obviously mikef is just there to talk up the game as he wanted it. You never show when things are going bad when your the boss, and he was obviously fed a lot of bs also. I just wonder why they all started from scratch - generally sports franchises are about improvements year after year, with overhauls ever 5 or so, but they obviously share a lot of code still. It's not just 505 and trickstar that are to blame.

How hard can a cricket game be to make? Obviously very. I just dont think any sort of controller is suitable for batting or bowling. Every cricket game I've played the batsmen has some 5 seconds to adjust to a delivery and timing is always easy to master. The learning curve is small, however make it big and no one will play it.

If I think of the cricket game I always go back to, its stick cricket. Why? Cause you have little time to think. The batting game has to be like that. Bowling should be rid of the pitch marker all together. Perhaps just have a line, with a button for full, decent length, back of a length and short. Let the quality of the bowler dictate how often he hits those spots bang on, with accuracy improved by confidence through wickets, lack of runs etc. You simply can't let the batsmen know where its gonna end up. For me bowling has always been a drag - a game of changing length or swing direction at the last minute to fool the batsmen. Batting somehow has to make taking singles challenging enough to make it fun. Using the analpgue stick to male shots challenging is a good start,

I have high hopes for big ant, though haven't read much about their mechanics. They did a pretty dam good job with afl, which is a heap harder sport to make a decent game out of. Was littered with bugs as well, nothing like ashes 2013, but was a good game till people started exploiting the bugs online.

No, all wrong, guys, please, "it's a completely new engine built from scratch"... however we are dealing with the "I didn't do it guy"

In summary on every issue this project has had we have ended up with "I apologise, however it wasn't my fault" - never is...
