Ashes Cricket General Discussion

I find the AI has no problem going at 7 per over in the powerplay but consistently lose wickets. I'm sure I've bowled them out in every ODI I've played. If there is a target, surely it needs to work like Duckworth Lewis - e.g. be revised if wickets are lost to present an attempt at stabilising. In addition it should be reevaluated at regular intervals and tweaked up or down. At the moment it feels very forumalaic.

I was thinking about this last night and I believe something that would be help is a team mentality. Not just a setting you assign a team but linked to the captain's mentality that allows for variations to the approach of constructing an innings. Brute/Aggressive could just go gung ho from the outset, conservative teams might try and preserve wickets before a big push in the back end of an innings. Even if they all had the same 'target score' at least having them trying to reach it differently could add a little spice to matches.

At least in my game today the batting team appeared to try and consolidate after a few wickets in quick succession. Happened in both innings causing the run-rate to drop quite a bit, only difference was the Aussies managed to launch an attack again at the end.

I can't see player mentalities at all now in the latest build (with speeds cranked up slightly). I'd rather they did something about this before we start talking about team mentalities. But yeah I agree, it would be cool. Australia arguably won this Ashes because they were happy going along at 2.5 to 3 an over, while England were trying to flamboyantly drive and hook their way out of trouble. In 2018 we should be able to nail how quickly the AI bats, surely.

I tried setting all AI batsman rating and judgement to 100, AI still struggles to chase in T20. AI batsman still plays Bouncers very poorly. There is definitely something wrong when it comes to AI chasing targets and not lasting a 50 over match first innings.
Even after spending hours on the game I am still unable to figure how things work interms of skills, mentalities, difficulty, pitch and weather conditions. However few things observed wrt AI batting are:-
  • Bowled trying to play Prod shots, cut shot on the off and pull shot/ back foot punches(on pitched up deliveries)which lobs for a catch seem to be common AI dismissals.
  • AI Difficulty levels are not programmed well. Pro and Veteran plays better than Legend.
  • Most of the Bouncers - AI goes to the leg and tries hitting on the off. Resulting in dot ball or a ugly looking catch to the slips.
  • When facing Yorkers, most of the times AI gets bowled either trying a prod shot or accross the line.
I guess for the time being I should stop Bowling bouncers and yorkers and exit the match and restart when one of the buggy dismissals happen. Not sure when the next patch is and what would be addressed.

I had an exciting Saturday night. I was playing around with bowling mentalites. This is what I found.

AI bowlers seem to bowl about 5% slower than when you use those players. At least the speeds they bowl I couldn't replicate, of course timing might be an issue. In fact it looks like the bowling speeds for the AI bowlers are just to get an average. So they'll bowl one at 86 but the rest are sub 80mph. I don't know if the bowling speed is shown is remotely consistent with what you bowl (not talking if it really comes at you at 90mph) or are you actually just able to bowl 5% faster at the AI.

Brutes bowl the fastest average speed (Fast bowler about 86-88 with a skill setting of 85). Then aggressiove and balanced, precise and conservative bowlers average a couple of mph slower than the others (same fast bowler about 86).

Precise and conservative feel easier to hit because they don't bowl short balls or because they're slower. Brute and aggressive bowl more short balls and therefore more wides.

A fast medium with 100 in bowling speed average about 80-81 mph depending on the mentality, but the majority of balls seem to be below 80mph.

It basically feels like Fast Medium doesn't exist and it's Medium Fast.

It doesn't feel like anything you see in the academy has all that much bearing or on the game.

AI batsmen still hit sixes about 100m when you can manage maybe 85-90 with the same player.

Sad point of the Ashes Cricket that, game as everything (custom teams, players, tournaments, career mode and also 2 licensed teams) but game lack in gameplay and proper AI (*which is most important part of any type of games)... The only hope is a miracle patch, which may fix these problems... but, BA teams activity and responses here in this forum is too low compare to DBC 14 time... which creates lot of doubts and concerns about Ashes Cricket game's future...

Does Bigant still have plans to push patches to Beta team for testing before releasing them officially ? Incase if they have plans, then I assume we will not get any patch until March as nothing has been pushed to Beta team until now :noway

In March I have heard they are going to release AO globally, so do you think the patch will be coming in March.. AO is the culprit for Ashes, For AO to come at a respectable level they would have to ditch AC for coming months..Even EA doesn't release games back to back like this and when patches are concerned people say it is a small studio have patience..

I can't research to defend BA. I don't have that motivation sorry after playing previous iterations and finding them better.. People will not, after paying full price of the game..they don't care how big or small BA is after playing AO tennis you know what I mean..

Personally I think they will do a statement about what their plans are going forward when we will except a patch I think we might get a big patch around March or may

Patch 1.06 is what the game should have come with. Especially AI not taking singles should have been fixed on day 1 patch. I hope the next patch will be 2.0 with major fixes. Unfortunately there are quite a few areas which needs to addressed and only time will tell what has got attention and fixed.

There was also RLL4 on 28 July, and then 13 September on PC so the difference is only one game really... And EA would have entire studios/departments dedicated to each title with all the resources and budget they would need... I doubt Big Ant could do such a thing, it's likely to be mostly the same people working on every project, which is why they end up ignoring one title in terms of support/patches while they work on another.

You can't pump out 3-5 sports games per year as such a small studio and expect to retain the quality.

It's very much quantity over quality now - throwing as many games onto the shelves as possible to rake in easy money from casual gamers. Are they under financial strain? Why else would this have become their strategy over the last few years?

They have got a motion capture studio so they are trying to make the most of it
