Ashes Cricket General Discussion

It does make a difference in the timing window (ie when and for how long the length indicator is on for etc...
Shows how much I know or care about online. So they keep the difficulty settings for online play simple?
Yes. Keep it simple. One of the key areas in which this game failed.

Better to have 3 things that work all the time, than 30 things that work some of the time or not at all.

They tried to include too much. But instead of making the game comprehensive, it actually made it superficial. Does that make sense?
Yeah, makes sense. The same with the difficulties. The biggest problem is so little is clearly explained if it's even explained at all.
@Spoobir Speaking of that prod six I got this..

Get those all the time. They're awful.

I really feel like there should be a "Normal" pitch condition in between "Soft" and "Hard". Maybe make "Hard" a little bit more bouncy to make up for it.

As for the rest of the conditions I agree it should be a lot clearer. @blockerdave do you remember whether the pitch was Pristine at the start? My theory is that a wearing/worn grassy pitch will be more batsmen friendly than a Pristine one. Which makes sense as when the grass is worn off the pitch the ball will move less.

No i don't recall (absurd we can't recheck conditions during the game), but your theory is correct I believe. The only pitch information we have ever got in the beta from BA was mikey said yeah - a grassy pristine pitch means there is an even covering of grass all over the pitch, whereas others means they are patchy. And yes, i agree something between soft and hard would be good.

@Spoobir @funnyadit @wasteyouryouth i hate those. don't get them super often, but usually stop playing when i do.

for me ashes is the worst most obvious culprit, but a major problem with all 3 games and one i'm currently really struggling to get past - i don't buy the physics (or the graphical representation thereof) for one second. and i've said this to BA in beta - if i don't buy the physics, i stop playing. that's my pattern with ashes (and all 3 games) - i play for a while until the joke physics gets too much, and then i put it down and don't play for a while until i've kind of forgotten.

the most annoying thing in ashes is the shit carry if you don't hit perfect perfect. on a hard pitch, the speed gun is still 85mph+ but the ball bounces before the keeper just because i got good good? not acceptable in any way. and since i don't believe that, why should i believe that i really beat the batsman and cleaned up the stumps/got the edge/just missed everything? why should i believe a goddam thing i'm seeing on the screen? when i think that, i stop playing.

dbc14 and 17 had these kind of things but they were less intrusive so i could play them a bit longer before i needed to take a break. pre the post release patches ashes had enough other good things i could see them more than the joke physics. now it's hard to see past this and i can't remember the last time i played the game more than 3 days consecutively without then taking more than a week's break.[DOUBLEPOST=1516962619][/DOUBLEPOST]

so you're playing the piss easy controls designed to be easy for the casual market, and complain it's easy?

Is there even a beta process happening at the moment? Because it seems like they got sick of the negative feedback and have just gone "screw you all we will do our own thing whether you like it or not"

Even with classic controls, everything at legendary, low skilled bastmen, and tweaks and what not, pitch marker at 11etc etc, batting is boring and easy, the way the runs come makes it boring and the lack of edges and easy lofting makes it easy that in between a run chase you say, ahh it's the same after all tweaks..

well that's a little rediculous... If I make mess of a job at work I can't just go "oh well I'll fix it later" and move on to another job...

And apparently tennis is a buggy mess. I'll put money, albeit a small amount, on this being the last build BA make for Ashes. After all, now the damage has been done reputationally, what's in it for them to fix it?

well yes and no... i don't think it's unreasonable that they juggle priorities based on the cash flow consideration of new game = new sales...

that said, some communication to what has been a loyal fanbase would have made a lot of sense. as i mentioned in the tennis thread the other day, they should be concerned that over the last 18 months they have squandered a lot of goodwill. i imagine there is a reasonable proportion of people who were day 1 (or early) customers of all 3 cricket games would not be for a 4th.

any sliver of reputation would be destroyed if they did nothing else for ashes, to the point that my comment above about a reasonable proportion of people not being day 1 customers for a 4th cricket game would rise significantly.

Well the thing about Don Bradman 14 was that when you missed the release point the ball would either but pushed long or dragged short depending on whether you were early or late, which was realistic and true to real life bowling. With that gone in DBC17 and now Ashes (despite balls no longer all landing on the exact same length in Ashes I'm still not convinced the slight variation isn't just random and has nothing to do with input) there is no other way to show you missed the release point than giving the ball "shit carry".

That said I'd recommend you try turning the pace speed up to ~80. Not only does it look better and result in less dodgy carry, it makes batting more fun as well. It doesn't seem to make my AI bat any worse either, you just need to get over the bowling speed gun being a little ridiculous.

@blockerdave I too agree on the poor physics..Good foot movement, with right bat position but ball goes through bat..I just dont get the logic behind it or even an idea as to what was that supposed to be..Like the video below..What was even wrong there..I just play with the proper way we play cricket in real life..More importance given to foot movement as the bat just follows the line..Not just this but many instances this happens even with AI...
