Ashes Cricket General Discussion

Batting is such a joy at the mo, ....edges, movement,.....very very tough but playable.....you have to learn to not get greedy because you will be going down! Vince struggled to get anything away: his "runs" all came off edges and nicks going to ground! Root came in and played very comfortably.....

AI are bowling a very very tough line and length.......

.....this ball from Hazlewood just pinned bak Malan's off-stump....a reasonable ball to want to drive but it came back into him and he played down the wrong line and it brushed the top of off and he was chips.....30 for 4

And this is the Aussie line and length.......

I just paid you 100 bitcoin. Also sent nudes as confirmation. Hope your length is as good.

Its a very short length unfortunately with very little bounce.......I enjoyed the nudes but couldn't quite work out what they were doing with Dean Johnse's satellite phone....

The field radar shows the field the AI are using and have been consistently using with some minor changes: they have been plugging the gap square on the offside when I have tried to score square or through the covers...the line has been generally consistent with the field although bowler coming over the wicket to a batsman with the opposite batting hand tends to stray a little too much down leg sometimes....

Lol are you sure that was Hazelwood bowling and not Warne?

This is great. Are backfoot shots playable now, as in are they a viable option now. I used to get bowled trying to play off the backfoot to good length deliveries. This used to be possible in dbc 14, but not since. Would be great if this is possible again.

And they need to be as powerful as the front foot ones.

Again this was in discussions And tweaked slightly but in its infancy.

Making the atttibutes make more of a difference. So batting with a lower ability batsmen against a world class bowler should be much more of a struggle....

Yes, Yes, Yes...

Making all attributes matter is a biggie. And then they can be adjusted to taste. Playing around with the physics and game world stuff isn't the answer.

Glad to hear good progress. How is AI in shorter forms? I mean i heard about AI holding good line and length but how is their field placement? Is the silly inner ring field gone?

Any more info about the human Batting.
How's the "play form the pitch as as late possible" coming up.

Does the speed of the ball still effects the timing. I mean one has to time very early for fast pace bowling currently.

And the sweet spot on the bat concept, less shot power when the ball hits outside the sweet spot.

Remember this is not a sprint. Each and every aspect is being looked at. At this mo the focus is on making the human and ai batting more satisfying and steps in the right direction have been made.

With ai batting the focus is to try and get some way towards playing the ball on merit rather than the timing of the shot down to ball speed: finding that sweet spot is quite a tricky but it plays much better than it has done.

So in the human batting sessions I have had I have really had to knuckle down: waiting for that right ball, trying to squeeze the gaps.....as soon as I started to try playing out of the ‘v’ to balls that weren’t quite wide enough I got myself into trouble....
....my last three 25 odd over sessions....35 for 5, 43 for 3 and 62 for 4.

Now this is of course also down to my batting “skill” but before I could score quite easily at over 5 an over.....

It makes me want to start and complete a series, the narrative, the to and fro is back in the game as far as human batting is concerned.

But it is very stop start at the mo because other aspects still need tuning. It is just testing, testing, testing. What If I do this or that? What happens if I come out slogging away in a test or in a t20? And the ai?

Questions, questions, questions.

It is very much an exercise of emperical scientific experiment....When the results start to come through its very satisfying but the work in the lab is sometimes a grind....and I am just an observer, we are not the ones doing the actual work in that sense!

Ai batting is much improved and makes the whole human bowling experience much more satisfying. However they are playing well but not scoring positively enough.

There are some unsung heroes around the place who quietly go about doing their thing, ignoring the noise and getting on with it.

Me? I’m a loudmouthed lout who needs a kick up the Gordon Ramsey.....praise to the unsung heroes!

@zimrahil surely post of the day, surely?

One other thing that hasn't really been talked about. Footwork. You see a full-ish ball coming outside outside off-stump. You lean the front foot indicator out towards it and over-step out there. This happens far too much. Any progress on this sort of thing?
