Ashes Cricket General Discussion

Maybe they don't?? Let's be serious for a moment... the academy will involve breaching the IP of the license holders themselves (i.e. ECB and CA IP around domestic teams, competitions and franchises).

Also the higher profile is more likely to attract attention of partners of the license holders (i.e. other boards) to breaches of their IP.

Same with the manufacturers/sponsors who have licensed their gear...
Are you saying that the Academy will not be present this time?

I don't think that's what he us saying at all. What I think he is suggesting is BA might just be being a little more careful considering higher profile. From what I understand is that Academy was pretty much confirmed on original announcement.

Exactly as @Llewelynf has said. I'm not saying it won't be there it's been confirmed.

It's entirely uninformed speculation on my part (what's new) but both Ross and Chief have mentioned before about the sensitivities and issues arising when license holders are involved.

Given the lack of an academy release yet, and the reality of what the academy actually is (an IP breacher) I'm putting 2 + 2 and making something between 4.01 and 4.99

The text in BA studio's website for Ashes says the following

Players will be able to create their own players, teams, stadiums and logos. They’ll also be able to create their own competitions and types of matches, from a short, furious five over match, right through to extended, multi-nation Test match tours.

If not called the academy, it will be something else for sure.

Your Maths seems spot on

Your misunderstanding the point. I am sure that facility will be in the game.

But both DbCs featured a stand alone academy well before release allowing people start making players and teams and kits and logos etc.

I am speculating (no more than that) that it might be possible that there hasn't been a stand alone academy for this game because license holders (and their partners) may not be enthusiastic about the implications of what the academy is and it's harder to hide in a higher profile game.

It could have nothing to do with that too of course.

If it isn't gonna be out separately then Ross could make an official statement on that because he did post in the forum saying there will be an academy but release date is TBA...This would stop speculation regarding academy separate release and we could just wait for the game...

This is what it states in their website. So the academy is there but will not be available prior to launch, I suppose.

Well yes but it depends on the reason it isn't out yet. Maybe it's just down to do they put stokes in the official squad. Maybe it's they don't want user content swamping the ashes content. Maybe it's they planned it for part of the pre release build up or something else entirely... I just suggested 1 possibility

So here is my 2 cents.

There will be an academy, exactly the same as in previous games but ashes teams will be locked. RLL4 had licenses but it still had an academy. I personally do not necessarily think IP infringement is the cause of the delay, I think it is merely so Eng and Aus get as much exposure as possible before created teams get the spotlight. They want the player scans and licenses to get the maximum airplay to reinforce the official stamp on the game.

This is merely my own speculation.

In previous versions the big selling point was community creations and sharing across platforms. That is no longer so. Now it is all about the Ashes.

Can someone tell me when i will be able to preorder the game on the PlayStation store for the US, I have everything ready

Thoughts on making a thread for teams/uniforms etc. so we can at least get organised when the academy is up and running?

I can start it unless anyone wants too.
