Asia Cup 2014

Look at how we treat our pace bowlers. Choosing Stuary Binny as a regular seam bowling option? Really!

^ Actually Binny isn't included as a regular bowling option, but as a support bowler to fill up the 5th bowler's quota.

Three of our bowlers are selected because of their batting prowess rather than their bowling alone. Stuart Binny, Ravi Ashwin, and Jadeja are literally 3 of our 5 bowlers. I really don't understand this selection by Kohli. India do not need to bat all the way down to 9. Dropping Aaron was a mistake, and so was retaining Rohit Sharma instead of Pujara. Aaron was dropped after 1 poor performance. Rohit is retained after performing poorly for 2+ series. There is absolutely no logic in any of this.

Agarkar on Cricinfo stated that India want to push Rohit Sharma for the World Cup so he doesn't see a spot for Pujara on the team. That is utter bs. The best man should take the spot, not the guy you wish to take the spot. Indian selectors are a bunch of lunatics.

What in the world is the point of giving up a bowling spot to an all-rounder when we already bat all the way down to 8 without him? Why not go for a talented bowler instead?

WTH is wrong with our fielders man?

When our bowler bowls well, nothing else goes our way.

Another spinner today, instead of Binny would have been so so so useful. Now we are stuck with Rohit, who is getting tonked

We keep giving chances to mediocrity. Stuart Binny is never going to pick you wickets in any form of cricket. To pick him instead of a front-line bowler is sheer nonsense.

So another loss. Sanga is giving Kohli a run for his money. The next match is the big one.

Bhuvaneswar Kumar is definitely not ideal for the last few overs. His overs need to be disposed off early.

And yes, I agree with having a third spinner in these conditions.

Kohli's captaincy was tested today and I think he'll learn some things from this defeat now. I admire his gamble in bowling out the top line spinners early, but then he didn't have the quick bowlers to do the job at the end.

I agree that playing Stuart Binny was a rubbish decision. Varun Aaron might have taken a wicket or two at the end with his sheer pace.

I don't know why nobody is pointing toward our horrible fielding. I don't know how many times I say this but when our bowlers are actually bowling well, our fielders need to support them by taking those catches. Today Karthik again proved that he can't replace Dhoni neither with bat or in the keeping department. He missed a stumping of Sangakara when he was on 20 and it cost us the game.

I still think Bhuvi bowled decently at the end and got the yorkers right but he became a bit predictable and was a bit unlucky to get those inside edges.

I don't know what was the point of picking Stuart Binny? He is a batting all-rounder but his bowling is not even a 5th bowling option. Again, when our spinners are taking the wickets in the middle overs, we get more chance to control the game and it showed today. When Jadeja and Ashwin and tak wickets in the middle, it becomes a bit easier at the end which they weren't doing for quite some time. Anyways good fight shown by the boys but they still need to improve the fielding a lot.

Fielding was awful, true. Especially Dhawan who missed a crucial boundary stop and then dropped that catch right at the end.

I wouldn't say Bhuvaneswar Kumar bowled well. He bowled some dollies in between the good balls. While unlucky, I still think he's not good enough to bowl the end overs. He is a swing bowler who thrives under helpful conditions. His yorkers are accurate when he hits them but not pacy enough and the length becomes predictable to batsmen who can either sit back in the crease or step forward and take it on the full. He looked a bit clueless against Sangakkara's onslaught...

And again, I ask. Where the hell is Umesh Yadav?

Truth is we were 15-20 runs short and then gave away 15-20 runs extra on the field. Costly in any limited overs format...

You just can't blame Kohli's captaincy, tbh I think Dhoni would have done worse in the situation. The truth is that picking Binny is pointless, if Kohli wanted extra medium pace bowling option he has that in him, but a bit slower and if we picked Pujara we were likely to add on 20/30 runs more to the total which would have proved to be crucial runs, surprised no one mentioned him. I think this is a good bowling attack for us, maybe this is what we should do going in to the next game..
Binny out and Bowler in.
Rayudu/Rohit out and Pujara in.
