Asia Cup 2022 - Sri Lanka (UAE)

The most exciting thing about this tournament has been seeing competitive cricket from Pakistan after such a long time (and trust me it has been a long long time). Both the India Pakistan have been nailbiters and gone down to the wire.

But let's be honest - win the toss, bowl first and chase have been the motto of UAE games.

That Arshdeep drop... damn
That was a dumb shot by Asif too.

I absolutely don't understand what they were thinking of to stick Mohammad Nawaz in at number four. Incredible bit of vibes-based leadership, because it totally worked
I really beg to differ. Yes, Quetta Gladiators haven’t used him very well with the bat, but for Northern in the National T20 Cup, he frequently bats up the order, and he’s a proper batter and clean hitter, no slogger.
He's got a 187 batting at 3 in a domestic OD game. https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...bank-of-pakistan-pool-b-957891/full-scorecard

So it was a calculated move in my opinion.
I think Shadab and Nawaz can regularly bat at 4-5 if they’re allowed to.

It was one hell of a wonderful game though we lost it (how can we win it after losing the toss unless we are playing Hong Kong :p:D). After a terrific first game, Hardik Pandya had a shocker today. Was it really necessary to rest him against Hong Kong? Did not playing for a week suck out his momentum? Cant easily say! Pakistan bowled superbly well to tie India in knots in the 2nd half of India's innings. Pant was just horrible. I mean come on, Pakistan is gambling by bowling a left arm spinner (Nawaz) against Pant (a left hander). This should be a favorable match up for Pant, but he doesn't even think of an aerial shot and keeps tapping it to the ground. I know he's in there to have one left hander in the batting lineup with Jadeja's exit, but he was pretty bad. Thankfully Rahul rubbed off from Rohit's massive start and for a moment there, it looked fairy tale'ish (lets see upcoming games before we judge him). India's high risk approach is expected to cost them wickets but they should stay with this approach as Australian conditions will be more conducive to success than slower UAE conditions.

I am not going to fault Bhuvi for that poor 19th over, because his 3rd over of the game was a splendid one and put some serious brakes on Pakistan and really helped tilt the equation towards India. I thought Bishnoi bowled really well too but Chahal was below par today. On the whole, it's tough in these conditions to set a defendable score against a 'decent to good' team and subsequently tough to defend a par score also. Atleast its good that these games are getting really close but I am waiting to see a team defend a score against a 'good team' (no disrespect to Hong Kong).

Under the current management, it has become quite fashionable to rest in-form players for non-consequential matches. If India lose the next one, expect, Rohit & Virat to sit out against Afghanistan.

Pant was just horrible.

Been saying this for quite some time. He isnt T20/ LOI material. Pant's inclusion based on his plaudits in Test cricket cannot be used as a justification every now and then. Per the recent presser from Dravid, it seems they arent sure of who the 1st choice keeper is going to be. In such a case, I'd definitely prefer someone like Sanju in the team as he has proven his value time and again.

Given the weakened bowling, Bhuvi should step up. And mate its a T20, bowling 4 overs isnt a big thing. If his 3rd was a good one, he ought to have doubled the effort in the final one, cause a newcomer was due to bowl the last over.

Chahal's inclusion did surpise me, seeing as the pitches are getting slower and slower. Ashwin would have been handier here. He's definitely the craftier amongst all and could have had a few tricks up his sleeve. I mean, why take him there if you arent going to play him. Plus, 2 leggies in the same side- dont think I've seen that before in international cricket.
