Asia Cup 2022 - Sri Lanka (UAE)

It's very clear that this Pakistan team have clearly worked out Indian teams weakness in the past few months. Credits to Babar's leadership!

India don't have a gun T20 batting line-up like few other teams and this is what Pakistan have targeted in their last 3 games! I honestly thought we finished slightly under par. 190 was a perfect target IMO!!

I thought we batted well. Yes, we ended up with a sub-200 score, which wasnt expected given the start we got off to.

I'd say, it was the bowling that cost us the game. Questionable selections-yes- more than Hooda's ,I was surprised with Chahal over Ashwin. Presence of 2 leg spinners is a huge risk to take in a T20 unless they are of the caliber of the great Shane Warne. Better lengths ought to have been bowled.

The other thing I want India to stop doing- experimentation. We have been doing this for a long time and Dravid of all, must understand this madness has to stop somewhere. Its eerily drawing parallels with the Dravid-Chappell combine in 2007 which saw experiments of a similar nature- for. e.g- Irfan Pathan opening the batting.

Hooda dropped? While KL Rahul plays?
Hooda was brought in to the side in the game against Pakistan for Jadeja who was forced out with an injury. So I am just questioning why have him if you don't utilise him properly.

Also I guess people need to tone down on that criticism regarding KLR. He is just coming from an injury and have hardly played himself in. People were bashing Hardik when he was injured/not performing to his strengths and today when he won an IPL title, everybody has went Gaga over him and even claim him to be the next Indian Captain.

Again I am not defending his batting approach with regards to T20Is. But did KLR not score close to 180-SR in the last game? And that shows he is capable of scoring quick runs.

I don't see a problem in having wrist spinners especially how successful it has been for Sri Lanka over the course of last couple of years. Infact, 9 of the top 10 wicket takers amongst the spinners in the world since the end of 2016 WT20 are wrist spinners.

Even if it's about having 2 similar bowlers, Bishnoi is more of a googly bowler while Chchal is a typical leg spinner.

Experiment in the sense? What kind of experiment, please elaborate a bit.

Issue isn't with KL Rahul's ability or skill. Its with his intent.

When the team has decided to follow a fierce ruthless strategy to go out there all guns blazing, one cannot go in the opposite direction just because he is not feeling in place.

The same criticism would go for Kohli but thankfully he has made up for it in the last two matches.

Every other batter apart from these two just begin their 'bazball' from the go and these two should stick to it as well.

The brand of cricket that KLR played is not reflective of the team's ideology- esp after the captain laid it out bare. Furthermore, I cannot comprehend why we need to cut him some slack, if he's coming back after an injury. He is out of form, as was evinced by the Zimbabwe series- you cannot use the national team as your own practice nets! Period!

Leggies tend to get hit a lot if the bowling isnt executed well. We were lucky with Bishnoi's control- not so much with Chahal. Having an off-spinner would have balanced the apple cart to a large extent and the bolwing could have been a tad experienced.

For starters, just select the strongest XI- give us a whiff of who our 11 stalwarts are going to be- who is the designated keeper? opener? No.3?

What about the rest - Are the floaters?

The way Dravid has been going about things, it seems that apart from Rohit, we have 10 floaters in the team.

I disagree with any premise that we batted well. Our openers were hitting the ball extremely well and the pitch genuinely did not look like offering much assistance. An out of form (and supposedly past his peak) Kohli was able to play a good knock until the last over in the same pitch. Pant and Hardik threw their wickets away. Hooda was struggling to time the ball at all barring that upper cut and looked completely out of position at seven. Any T20 side that has struck at more than ten runs per over after the powerplay and has their number three scoring a good fifty should be aiming at 200 at the least.

Now I've been very critical of Rahul himself but the bloke cannot win in any situation apparently. He did his job in the last game, got out trying to be aggressive against the best team in the competition. Yet he's supposed to be dropped for Hooda? Who I suppose should open because he played well against Ireland? I like Hooda but shifting him all over the place is just ruining the lad. Give him the role of a backup top-order batsman and play two proper all-rounders. The rationale to drop Rahul on the basis of him treating these games as net practice is funny too. Indians aren't allowed to play in the CPL, there are no domestic games at the moment and the only other game he could be playing is a first-class game against New Zealand A. Which no doubt if he does turn up for he'll face criticism for blocking the path of a supposed deserving youngster. Pretty much every other senior player/first-teamer has played themselves into form with the national team and now the buck stops with Rahul for some reason. As I've said, the bloke might be obnoxious and pretentious but it feels like there is no way he's going to win his detractors over. Funnily the same was levied at Pandya last year and this year he's the toast of every fan.

I agree with Ashwin coming in for Chahal given Sri Lanka's left-handed batters. Ashwin can also bowl in the powerplay which is another bonus. Finally he can add some batting depth to this lineup if he doesn't go funky. Axar should definitely be in for Hooda. Tough on the latter but we need six bowling options in a T20I. Whoever they deem as the keeper batsman for today's match should be backed for the rest of the tournament and potentially the next series too. I can see the argument for both but the choice is also contigent on Hardik's preference in the batting order, his workload with the bat that may affect his bowling workload and Axar's own capability to fill Jadeja's shoes with the bat. Whatever choice is made though all I want is for that bloke to be backed properly without being dropped midway like DK was.

Hope they’re flying in Mohammad Haris, because Rizwan was sent for a scan on his right leg, and we don’t have a backup keeper in the squad.
Like, if you don’t have space in your 15 for a backup keeper, at least have a guy in the UAE with the squad on standby?

Kohli probably feeling happy that he didn’t grow up aspiring to be a wicker-keeper.
