Asia Cup 2023

Pretty good squad other than Samson missing out.
I will not lie, I like that squad. This is the best we could have picked and Tilak Varma's selection is a selection we all make every cup.. that unknown factor. I wish he is picked up in the 15 men squad as well for WC. Dropping Chahal was a given since Kuldeep did well and Jadeja and Axar are given.

I will not lie once more, hoping KL fires and has got his oomph back. Need him and Iyer in the middle order to destroy bowlers.

The only surprises for me were Tilak in for Samson and Prasidh in for Chahal. The latter does leave us short of an attacking spinner backup but Prasidh is extremely valuable if fit just as an alternative to Bumrah for rotation purposes. The possibility of him and Bumrah being our own Archer plus Wood circa 2019 WC combination is also very tempting.

I’m still not completely in favour of Tilak being selected as I don’t see him a spot for him in the 15 man squad unless someone remains unfit or they finally drop SKY. He’s also a part of the Asian Games team which means there’s a strong chance he will join up late with the main team (but I suppose they can always withdraw him from there). It feels risky throwing him into perhaps the most pressurised situation in Indian cricket for years. Reminds me of when Yuvraj debuted as a nineteen year old in the ICC Knockout tournament and did well. In his favour I do suppose he’s got more experience than Yuvraj at that point had even if this WC is far more high profile.

Seems KL is still unfit and will almost certainly not play the first game which is why the Samson exclusion is puzzling. I was expecting SKY to get the Rayudu treatment and be excluded for Tilak to be the Shankar of 2023 so that they have the backup of Samson as keeper should he be needed but it seems like they don’t mind batting Kishan out of position even if he is the backup opener.

I do feel for Samson but with KL being back and Kishan, it was impossible for him being in for wicket keeping as well. I just saw SKY is in so that is a bummer as he has done nothing in ODI's. He is solely a T20 player, very one dimensional. I would definitely prefer Tilak or Samson over SKY.

I thought our fans calling Thakur an all-rounder was bad but this takes the cake.
shaheen Afridi hit 50 of 36 with 5 sixes and 3 fours and in the psl final he hit 44 runs of 14 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes when he came out to bat it was 112-5(14 over) and ended with 200-6 with coaching from the legendary shahid Afridi

Cool performances mate but that still doesn’t make him an all-rounder. Hasan Ali’s got more claim to be one than Shaheen.

I remember watching that innings, most of his runs were scored off about 50% of his deliveries the rest of the time he was swinging and missing. It was like Stuart Broad after he got one in the face. At best he's a bit of a Narine-style pinch hitter.
