ATI Radeon X2900 XT Vs Geforce 8800GTS (2900XT = Winner)

Hmm....sorry to revive this old thread, but this particular article just caught my eye, which states that Canadian PC builder Extreme PC tuned the memory and frequency of the Radeon HD 2900XT 1GB, and released an extreme edition of the card which "in CrossFire mode matches 8800GTX ULTRA SLI performance and in same games, surpasses it!".

Yep i saw that some time aggo on another forum. Powerfull cards, i still think the gtx is probably the better card overall, and it should be considering the silly price. Still the 512 & 1024 meg versions of the 2900xt have now pulled comfortably ahead of the gts.

Oh I am lucky that I didn't buy a DX 10 GPU yet.

Well i think thats simply rubbish. I wouldnt believe it until i see it ( NOt because i already own dx 10 hardware.)

See it, what on earth can a 0.1 version do so that new hardware is required ? I dont think so.

And as to the overclocked card, well the people sound like ill-informed people to me, you know what, they call the card 8800GTX Ultra, :D, and also, they say that Pro Street is in Directx 10.

Tut tut Kshitiz, welcome back, but do I sense a hint of jealousy & desperation? :p

As for the Direct3D 10.1 matter, here's a copy of the PowerPoint presentation that Microsoft used to introduce Direct3D 10.1 .
Now, here are couple of important points that you notice in the presentation, and is stated later in the article:
Direct3D 10.1 looks to be quite a significant release for DirectX. Some of the interesting points to note:
Will require Windows Vista SP1
Not “supported” by current-generation DX10 hardware
“Extension” to Direct3D 10 - “complete” D3D10
5 new API
Improves rendering quality
Enforces floating point 32 rendering
Enforces 4x multi-sample anti-aliasing (MSAA)
AS for the overclocked version of the 2900XT, it comes close to the 8800GTX Ultra, although it doesn't beat it. (the card scores 19390 in 3DMark06 in Crossfire mode, while the 8800GTX Ultra scores 19819 according to the site). As Gas said, perhaps despite the subtle price difference, the GTX Ultra is the better card.

I'm not back lol.

Just a sneak peak, well anyways, what i was trying to say ta here's no card such as a 880GTX Ultra lol. I think its either 8800gtx or 8800 ultra ?

And probably about the directx 10.1, i guess that it would be a really painful move for ms and nvidia or ati alike, but i really do think that Vendors will come out with BIOS revisions and software revisions. I read sometime in the previous articles that DX 10.1 was just a mere fix of the so many bugs in Dx 10. Lets hope for the best, but the thing is, that i have to wait 8 months anyways before i play a game with dx 10 :p

Good luck playing any dx10 power sapping games on your 8500gt. :D

Here's what i know so far, rumours.

Also,

HD 2950XT (RV670) Ships Next Month

AMD's new RV670 will have two versions; RV670 XT and RV670 PRO, named "Gladiator" and "Revival". Both new GPUs will power Radeon HD 2950 XT and Radeon HD 2950 PRO video cards when released. Gladiator will feature 512MB of GDDR4 memory clocked at 1.2GHz, and 825MHz clocked core. Revival will come in 256MB or 512MB GDDR3 flavors, with 750MHz core clock and 900MHz memory clock speeds. Both GPUs will be made using 55nm technology, with support for DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4.1, PCI-E 2.0, UVD and next generation CrossFire technology. In addition, RV670 XT will be manufactured by AMD while the RV670 PRO will be produced by other manufacturers (not specified). The new GPUs will be released by the end of 2007, or in the beginning of the next year. The information HARDSPELL is reporting is not confirmed by any official source close to AMD or ATI, keep it in mind while reading.

I may be badly outdated but when i read an article a month ago, i saw that Direct3d 10.1 's major changes are probably making the AA compulsory in games, and some stuff alike, which i really think can be easily done with a few hardware bios tweaks with drivers and the like. It isnt something which would require a new type of shaders

( dont worry though. I have sold my 8500gt for now :D )

I'm not sure mate, first i have heard of it. That won't bode well for people with budget cards though.
