Story Australia In Bangladesh (ICC06) END OF THE GAME

Bangladesh vs Australia - Test Match

Australia have gone into this match with a young bowling group. Brett Lee, Stuart Clark, Mitchell Johnson and Shane Watson are all very young and in-experienced bowlers. Brett Lee will become Australia's number 1 bowler, but their batting line up is still very strong and would be the best in the world.

The Weather conditions for this match is fine for the 1st day of play. The pitch is made for batters. Not much for the bowlers at all, but the spinners might get some turn at the end of the days play. The ground is in good shape, but the outfield is slow, so may not many boundaires today.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat 1st, as Australia will bowl 1st.

Australia hold a steady score.

Australia have started well in their match against Bangladesh in the Test Match. Alot was talking about Australia as the retierment of Glenn McGrath earlier in the week, experts say there might be a tad something wrong with their bowling attack. It has 2 veterans still in the side with Lee and Clark, but Clark hasnt played that much senior cricket of late. Nathan Bracken, Shaun Tait and Shane Watson are the younger type bowlers that really need to step up.

Shane Watson will play a huge part for Australia this year

The 1st wicket didint take long to fall for Australia and it was Nafees to go. Just 8 mintues into the Test Series, Nafees was run out by great fielding by Michael Clarke throwing the ball to Gilchrist who stumped Nafees before crossing the line. Brett Lee and Stuart Clarke the old times opened the bowling for Australia, and it was Clarke that really impressed. 4 Maidens in his first 6 overs was outstanding, but the Bangladesh went after Lee smashing him for four every time.

Bashar was next to go. A good partnership that came to an end, with the great bowling from young gun Nathan Bracken. Just the 2nd ball Bracken delivered went past the batman and straight onto the middle stump. A wicket that Australia was looking for, to break up the partnership. 63 minutes Bashar was in for, so it was a good timed innings, but really couldnt stamp his mark on the game. He faced 51 balls, and only hit the 3 boundaires as the outfield is very slow this afternoon which made it harder for batsman to hit the big four. The score would be bigger if the outfield wasnt this slow, alot of balls have been rolling away and then just stoping so the fielder can easily pick the ball up and throw it back to the keeper, saving 2-3 runs atleast, something the batsman need to work out.

Islam came into the attack really fired up. Facing Tait up first and really thought he would smack the kid around a bit. Tait would of been nervous for his first match, and was bowling in the shocking postion, always got hit, and most of the time, to the boundary over the other side where the infield is quick. 3 Fielders were guarding that fence, but the ball just went so quick behind them, it was imposssible to stop it. Shane Watson came into the attack for Australia and like Bracken, took a wicket in his 1st over. Clean bowling Islam for 19 which included 3 fours aswell.

Javed Omar going along quite nicely.
Hope he can carry on and make a century:)

Good batting frm Bangla :) Also from the picture, i feel its too short to bowl to both the batsmen by Watson. :p

Mark Nicholas and Michael Slater bring the Mornings action

Welcome back to the Cricket. It is the lunch break here and you are watching Australia vs Bangladesh and it is an even match to begin the day. I am Mark Nicholas and i am joined by Michael Slater and we will bring you all the action from the 1st session of play.

Now Australia have really showed a bit in this match so far. I rekon their younger group of bowlers such as Watson and Bracken have really bowled well this morning. Even though the Bangladesh batsman were smashing around Lee, the Aussies bowlers really settled again. Australia needed to learn something from the retierment from Glenn McGrath, and now they have Brett Lee who should be their number 1 bowler with Stuart Clark backing him up.

Slater: Some how i see that Australia wont really miss McGrath that much anymore. He is Australia's best quick bowler and will be for a long time, but they have so much depth in their bowling team now with the likes of Lee, Clark, and Watson and two young left handers, Johnson and Bracken who are unpredictable. But they have started well this morning and will be interesting to see what they will come up with in the Afternoon session just about 10-15 minutes away.

Nicholas: Well lets just stay stay away from the Aussies now, and talk about Bangladesh, they have had a good start to the match. Even though they are 3 wickets down in the morning session they still are in a good postion. They just need to be un-scaved during this next session of play, if they can hold down to 2 wickets in this next session then they could be in a good position to really worry Australia in their batting.

Slater: Javid Omar has been great so far for Bangladesh, he has really played well out there, really struggled at the beginning of the match which you would expect really, but then he really blasted out of the blocks around the 10th over of the Test. Omar is 47 not out at the break, reaching his 50 just under 100 balls, so doing well with his run rate. At the start of the match we said that the outfield was very slow and the infield was quick, but Omar has really hit the ball hard. Hit most of his balls at the outfield and has hit 4 of his fours in that section of the ground. He has hit 7 great fours in this match so far, and doenst look to stop, and hopefully for Bangladesh, will go on and make a Test 100, which will really hurt Australia. Omar hasnt had much help in the match so far with Bashar making 17 and Islam making 19 the only real other score getters for the game.

Nicholas: Well we are close to going back to the action, this has been a really short interval, but we have had a look at this mornings play and it has been a good start to the day, hopefully the rest of the day can be entertaining as the morning session.

Johnnie Walker Trivia Question: Here is today's Johnnie Walker Trivia Question: Graham Gooch scored 333 against India in 1990, but who dropped him before he reached 50?

Now lets go back to the cricket for the 2nd session of the day, enjoy and we will be back for the Tea Interview later on.

Good presentation, that trivia is too hard for me, but I'm surprised to see Gilly opening in Tests, perhaps a cracking start would be good for the Aussies! Keep it up!
